I like the 3-5-2 myself, because I think it suits more of our players than other formations. For instance, I think Vokes needs a strike partner, and Adam gets protection in midfield, allowing him to stretch teams with his passing.
The "Jones plays the diamond" counter doesn't really hold up because he has already diverted from it. Also, I don't think the current squad is suited to it.
Another reason I think 3-5-2 is our best bet, is that we actually have the wing back options for it, now. Vokes needs crosses to thrive, and they could supply them.
An added bonus, is that it might be better to watch, if played right!
Thoughts?

Ordinarily, I'd say no to that because I genuinely believe that if you're going to play three at the back, then all three of your center backs need to be pretty athletic, with a good turn of pace because they have to cover far more ground than when they sit as a pair at the heart of a back four. However all things being equal and with the predicament we find ourselves in, then I completely agree with you, for all the very good reasons that you've articulated.

4-4-1-1.
It is the best formation for any group of players.

Count me in Trick.
They seemed to get it vs Leeds.
Or even a 343 with Bojan as a sort of False 9 with Vokes and Berahino working off him, a route through the middle as well as being fed by the wing backs..
On paper, done well.

Whatever formation we play we have defects all over the pitch.
Persist with the diamond, play Diouf up top with Vokes, Adam for Woods and Bojan for Ince.
It’s nothing more than an audition for next season now....

I think NJ needs to fucking figure out who are best players are before he decides on a formation. Playing a load of shit in a 4-3-3 with one winger who can’t cross a ball and another who can’t be arsed to be there and a striker who falls over if anyone breathes at him hasn’t worked all season and is boring as hell so why are we doing this again? Where is Pieters, where is Diouf, where is Bojan, where is Charlie...it’s a joke. Why are we playing a formation to suit the shit that Rowett bought?

It doesn't exist, recruitment buy random players that don't fit
It's in the past but all we needed was an n'zonzi type player with 50% of his ability to continue with what we had under Hughes, how many times did they fuck that up?
V ginkel..imbula..Allen..n'diaye
Eventually the formation was fucked off and we decided to hoard midfielders that didn't and don't fit into one team and formation
The recruitment team at this club is a joke
Anyone that disagrees can feel free to name a team from our squad that effectively creates chances and looks solid defensively

354 should do the trick.
The extra two man advantage should see us home.

4-2-3-1, but that would mean playing Bojan and hoping he never gets an injury as there's no cover.

And bring back Diouf 😊 He couldnt do any worse He’ll at least give his all. He never has not given his all. Look at Afobe - flaps his arms and falls over when nothing has happened. Diouf came out week after week fighting last season. Couldn’t score for shit but has more character in his little toe than some of these whinging pansies we are forced to watch.

Believe it or not the diamond is the best formation for the players we have at the club. I'll never be convinced that Ince and McClean are good enough wingers to play with two wide men. We have Adam, Allen or Woods to play at the base of the diamond. We have Bojan or Berahino to play at the tip of the diamond. We have Allen, Diouf or Bauer to play on the right of the diamond We have Etebo, Clucas or McClean to play on the left of the diamond. Edwards is ideal as a right back as he is one of the few players who can cross a ball, we desperately need a new left back but with the players in the squad I reckon the diamond is the future.
