Just read the article, quite eye-opening as to what’s wrong with some of today’s footballers. He ‘can’t wait to see the back of football’ but will give it another ‘5 or 6 years’. Fuck me sideways. Already a multi millionaire but puts another few million quid ahead of his principles. Malcolm X would be so, so proud. Well if he spends £42,000 on a night out in London you can see he does need to keep the money coming in That’s a lot of lap dances 😎

What on earth are you fucking talking about then? Come on. Make it exactly fucking clear. What would you have him do? Fuck me. I've said it 3 times, not sure how to make it much clearer. Danny Rose is a multi-millionaire who is in an absolutely prime position to make a real stand that people will take notice of. He never has to work again - he (unlike most of us here) is able to back up his principles in a way few others can. He can actually draw a line in the sand that people will take notice of and debate openly. Yes, he has suffered abhorrent abuse - but if he's so sick of it, why not do something about it instead of waiting for another 6 years? If I hated my job, I'd change it, not wait 6 years. If i hated my wife, I'd divorce her, not wait 6 years. Are you getting my point? I just wish that somebody in football would have the courage of their convictions and make a principled stand. Danny Rose makes valid, valid points in that piece but undoes them all by essentially having a moan about hating the profession he is in, but not enough to say no to a few million quid more. If there are any people of colour reading this and they are offended or find my remarks in any way racist, please, please let me know and I will apologise unreservedly because that is not my intention. If however, you are a white bloke foaming at the gash to be offended on behalf of others who in themselves aren't offended, then fuck you, you patronising bastards, you are part of the problem. My issues with Danny Rose are nothing at all to do with race, they are to do with the fact that he's a shithouse of a human being. On the flip side is your wife a good cook and if so il do you a straight swap for mine and il Chuck the dog in 😎

Stigger, in the name of the open debate that you have - admirably - encouraged, could you just clarify that your position as I’m reading it, is that: A black player who is concerned about racism in the game can only be considered to be “principled” if they completely sacrifice their career and walk away from the game. Essentially any black player who continues to participate in football is unprincipled. If that’s not correct please point out where, in light of your comments so far. That's how I read it too. Can't really see where stigger is coming from. Rose shouldn't have to sacrifice a god-given opportunity to earn copious amounts of money just to prove a point. I also suspect he loves his job on the whole, but even if he doesn't that's not relevant. He, and all others, should be fully protected by the authorities from the hate but that simply isn't happening. Rose's point is that handing out these relatively meagre fines serves as little incentive to the authorities in the offending nations to do everything possible to stamp racism out of football. The fines should be proportional and meaningful, and then maybe those governing bodies will do more to combat the issue. It really is a fucking ludicrous situation though in 20 fucking 19 that black players are still subjected to so much abuse. At this point it's the equivalent of a black guy working in an office and having to endure a bunch of abusers banging on the window making monkey chants. That's how bonkers it feels to me.

No mate, that's not my position at all. Here we have a person who is in a position of financial sustainability with a platform to take a real stand. He's taken a stand, made valid complaints against an abhorrent situation and then sat down again. There isn't an easy answer / solution to this by definition, hence anything suggested on here is shot to bits. To challenge any social unrest / societal issues, there has to be someone willing to go that extra mile and burn the room down. In my opinion, Rose is in a position to do that, but has decided to stick it out for another 6 years to retirement. The civil rights movement only achieved gains because there were people with the will and ability to burn the room down. It just seems to me that Rose opened the door to that possibility and then put it back in the box. But, that's just my opinion which means the square root of fuck all.

You've absolutely slated him as "unprincipled" on this thread for having the temerity to be a black player who speaks out about racism but doesn't jack his career in completely and walk away from the game. Your analogy to the civil rights movement is not only breathtakingly crass, it is the complete reverse of your position - to be consistent with your argument here, you would have been saying "if Rosa Parks is so principled why didn't she just get off the bus and walk?"

I just think Rose hasn't explained himself very well. He's had his problems with depression too of course and he's not the brightest button. However, he's in a privileged position and can use his profile to speak out against racism in a way that could facilitate the change the game is crying out for. I would hope that he at least still loves playing the game for the sake of his teammates at Spurs and England, and was just referring to the fact that he'll be glad when the abuse will be over. It's difficult for most of us to imagine what it might be like to be subjected to the hysterical rants of sub-human football fans, but he has a platform that few have and he's not alone. He can do a great deal to help if he puts his mind to it and enlists the help of others. A word with Raheem might be a good start.

The quote was "when *countries* are getting fined less than I spend on a night out". He's not trying to make anyone in particular feel inadequate about their earnings, he's just pointing out that the fine isn't a deterrent. Montenegro is a small and poor country I would suspect that 50,000 euro would be a big chunk of the FA's annual budget. Very few FAs are as rich as ours.

Wouldn't it help? Not walking away has got the agenda absolutely nowhere - if a high-profile player took an actual principled stand wouldn't that drive the debate to the next level? Or do we keep doing what we're doing and get nowhere? In any social change there has to be a watershed moment - couldn't this be that? People would surely sit up and take notice? I absolutely agree there has to be a watershed moment. Black players celebrating in the faces of racist morons or just flat out walking off the pitch or forcing an abandonment of games is A-OK with me. I just don't see how the racists actively driving a man out of his livelihood is achieving anything other than what they want though? We all know Rose can be an irksome presence on a football field but the idea he doesn't deserve sympathy because he isn't prepared to quit the game over racism just strikes me as a bit weird. A bit weird? It's utterly absurd. Rose is no less principled (for not "taking a stand" and walking away) than (for example) Kane or Pickford or Chilwell.

So the fact he spends a lot on a night out outweighs the issues he's angry about? Really? Are we moving towards the notion someone should accept the abuse because they are wealthy? The racist issues are a big problem, but he doesn’t come across well here, and as a result, I have no sympathy for him. He could’ve just said the fine is a joke, instead he shows what a classless cunt he really is. I give up. Everything wrong with the internet in one post. Give a voice to cave men. So you don't have sympathy for a person being abused because of their skin colour because he doesn't come across well in an interview? Have a fucking word with yourself.

But those principles relate to taking a stand against racism don't they? How would walking away help in that fight in this instance? Wouldn't it help? Not walking away has got the agenda absolutely nowhere - if a high-profile player took an actual principled stand wouldn't that drive the debate to the next level? Or do we keep doing what we're doing and get nowhere? In any social change there has to be a watershed moment - couldn't this be that? People would surely sit up and take notice? He shouldn't have to walk away, he's entitled to earn every penny that is paid to him like every other person on the fucking planet. How about stop racist cunts? I find it very fucking ironic that you (I assume a white bloke) is telling a black man he should make a stand, regardless of what you think of the individual.

It may be me and to be clear I detest racism , but the trouble with Rose is , white, black , green or blue , English , Chinese or Italian l some of his behaviour is provocative and distasteful .
That’s no ground to abuse him racially but if he dives to get a fellow player sent off snd rolls around as he did here and jumps up , he is going to get abused regardless , it’s not mitigating racial abuse In Any way but stick for bad behaviour should not be confused with racial abuse as long as it’s not racist in nature

Agree it undoubtedly was , and utterly contemptible and unacceptable , he is now saying it’s everywhere though , and my only point is racist abuse is unacceptable whatever the circumstances but shouldn’t be confused om other occasions with a player who is subjected to negative attention due to his behaviour regardless of creed or colour so long as that attention is focussed on football activity , and rose in the past has been subject to both one is unacceptable the other a product of on field behaviour nothing else .

The guy is a footballer. He wants to go to work without being racially abused because he has a black skin. He can’t because some of the people who are watching think it’s OK to abuse him. He still goes to work but isn’t enjoying it because of the abuse. He expresses that feeling which also reflects the experiences of many other black players, especially when playing in some foreign stadiums. He makes the point that Football Authorities are not taking the issue sufficiently seriously and is frustrated by that.
He is dead right. However many red herrings you toss into the argument he is dead right.

Of course Danny Rose should keep playing if he wants. Footballers are well-paid het it's a short-life career span. People saying he should retire now to make a stand, why should he? He'll miss out on millions for what?

Of course everybody knows the real answer to racism in football and that is to ban FAs from international competition. But, whilst racism is rife throughout most if not all FAs throughout the world then money talks and FIFA will never act firmly against it.

That's how serious they are about kicking out racism. After seeing photos of him doing the exact same thing during games I'd have given him the benefit of the doubt too. Please explain why. At the very least I would expect him to be asked to appreciate why putting fingers across the top of your lips and holding your arm straight out in front of you may be deemed offensive and racist and never to do it again. This should be stated publicly. As a teacher I have had to explain this to children on several occasions but they can now say they are copying Hennessy.

"they get fined less than I spend on a night out in London" Whether that's right or wrong, he comes across as an arrogant fucker with that sort of talk. I suspect that comment was cynically sarcastic rather than bravado. FWIW I think Danny Rose is absolutely right in his assessment of latent and blatant racism in football, regardless of whether he is regarded by some (on here too) as a cheat.
