Totally understand the Shaq deal, however I have a massive issue with how we reinvested his fee, Ince and Maclean utterly, utterly diabolical.

7.5m or nothing the year after. Had it been the latter you'd be banging on about that instead. From the moment Steve arrived he was after a transfer. So was Arnie but finally someone woke up an put a 25m release clause in Driven by abomination that was the Nzonzi deal . We then make a similar mistake with Shaq .£45m the three when Arnie was going for £40m this January .Its shit business no matter Which way you judged it . Compounded by £50m for ince , afoebe ,woods .mclean etc . Arnie didn’t have a release clause he was a Year into a very generous long contract that he decided to ignore. N’Zonzi was clear he was leaving England and the choice was £7.5m Or nothing a year later. Shaq only signed on the proviso. He had a generous release clause. These are the realities when clubs like Stoke compete at the higher middle end of the market

"Kevin came to us with the question, as to whether or not he was allowed to train with us. He has always been top while at FC, therefore we're making that happen," said FC managing director, Armin Veh.
"That works well. With Jorge Meré still on holiday, we only have three centre-backs available. With Kevin as the fourth in this position, it makes training a little easier," added FC head coach, Achim Beierlorzer.
As Chig has posted on the transfer thread, hopefully it leads to something (although it does sound like they have their 4 CBs sorted)

This Cologne fan account suggests they are known to be looking for a centre-half.
Only temporarily? Kevin Wimmer is now training with #effzeh and travelling to training camp.
The central defender wants to keep fit - but the FC is currently looking exactly at his position.

He'll be loving it if he gets a permanent move there. Great city and a big club and 50,000 fans to play in front of (or sit on the bench in front of).

www.kicker.de/752948/artikel/ein-koelner-tuerspalt-fuer-wimmerAnd also for training guest Kevin Wimmer, a small doorway to return was opened.
From Tuesday follows the practical part, which will also be accompanied by Kevin Wimmer attentively.
The center-back, deported from his former club Stoke City in the 2nd team, participates as a guest player at the training camp. The fact that FC are still looking for a central defender, is not related, assured Beierlorzer:
"One has nothing to do with the other," said the coach, justifying this with the financial dimensions of a change.
"We know what's paid in England, we will give him high-level training practice, and on the other hand, we will have a fourth center-back for our training work," the coach argued, but then added a small gap to the return door for Wimmer by appending : "And if something really arises, we'll see that already."
Thus, the conditions are created that he can participate in the games against Bad Dürrheim and the SSV Reutlingen. If he plays, the coach decides at the end, "explains Veh, who will still observe the 26-year-old.
"We can not look the other way," says the manager, "but it is not thought that he is now undergoing a trial training with us."

He must be desperate to leave Stoke, and probably knows this is his best option, so he should be motivated to prove something, even if it just ends in another loan.

Wimmer will be prepared to rip up his contract to get first team football (he did this with his wages last year), Imbula isn't.

He is so bad that when he joined, people started saying they miss Wolly!!
And it's true!
Wolly had the odd good game. Wimmer was universally terrible.
Amazing to think that going from Huth to Wolly to Wimmer ended in relegation. Who would have thought it!

Utterly shafted by Spurs who saw us coming! And when you see Wimmer cavorting with Bauer doesn't it just make you sick Bauer recommended to Stoke by Arnie, as I recall, or something like that. In 20 years time the 3 of themselves will still be filthy rich on the back of us and will probably have forgotten all about Stoke. You can blame the pizza boys, but players should look at themselves as well.

Not encouraging... geissblog.koeln/2019/07/bei-lockerem-sieg-kein-bewerbungsschreiben-von-wimmer/WITH A LOOSE WIN: NO JOB APPLICATION FROM WIMMER Kevin Wimmer was in the friendly against the Landesligisten in the starting lineup, but could convince only a little of himself No recommendation from Kevin Wimmer When the first 22 players entered the field at 6 pm, Kevin Wimmer was also among the starting players in Cologne. The rejected Stoke City player may not only keep fit at the FC, but was also able to collect match practice for the first time. The fact that Wimmer is looking for a new employer after being disembarked in England is undeniable. However, whether the player at 1. FC Köln, who is known to be looking for another center-back, could become an option, is still open. At any rate, the 26-year-old could not make a lasting impression on Wednesday. Although the Cologne backs were busy this evening, even slightly, nevertheless, the central defender fell by lack of liveliness and in parts by uncertainties in the ball statement and in passing game. With a short playing time of only 30 minutes, however, the former cologne left little time to attract positive attention. Achim Beierlorzer did not want to overdo the performance of his training guest. "We do not want to overrate that," said the coach afterwards. "It was important for Kevin to play for us, because then we could play with four center-backs." The coach then made it cautious to realize that Wimmer is still missing much of his old strength. "You've already noticed that he has not played for a while." Instead, in the first group, especially Jakobs and Ehizibue could draw attention to themselves. While the latter was noticed especially by fast runs to the baseline, Jakobs showed on the left side playful, robust and with a decent move to the goal.
