His little cameo on Tuesday was atrocious. Including missing a sitter. Well it should have been a sitter if he had a touch and could kick with his right. And Ince's miss was not a sitter ? ,I would say it was worse ,at least McLeans produced a save . Some are very blinkered Blinkered? Sorry I forgot this thread was about Tom Ince. How silly of me blinkerdly concentrating on James McClean on a thread entitled 'O'Neill wants James McClean'. Strangely enough I also didn't mention how wank Indi and Williams were either. I do beg your pardon. Oh and by the way if the Ince chance you're on about is the one I'm thinking of it was a difficult chance because the ball was crossed behind him. He still should have scored it though with that i do agree.

Happy to see him go. His stats show what a low % of assists he has, he doesn't fit a diamond at all and, speaking as someone with an Irish Catholic bloodline on my mums side, he's really not worth all of the fuss. Plus as usual we've given him a contract that extends into his physical decline.

So looking at the comments so far, I’ll take the guess the general viewpoint is yes, he is that bad aha Is Adams McClean's middle name?

After rumours of O niel wanting McClean, its realy made me question whether we should keep him. Obviously a lot of fans say how terrible he is, but is that because of his genuine football ability or because they just don’t like him. Obviously he hasn’t got the greatest skill set in the world, but either has most players in this team, and what he brings is effort nearly none of our players have, and tbh he is a decent footballer whether people want to admit it or not. Just wanted to see what other people think about this because I really think people call him a shit footballer because they simply just don’t like him, but personally I think he brings more to the team by having him rather than getting rid. The question is, where does he fit into the new man's system, which is a very specific, narrow diamond? Reading into his time at Luton, he has either got rid of wingers or turned them into a number 10, wider central midfielder or attacking full back. My question is, outside of his tremendous engine, has he got the football nous to play as a number 10 or wider central midfielder? At an absolute push, he could play as an attacking full back, but even then it's based purely on his engine rather than ability. To me, he's an up and down winger with an iffy end product. I don't see a future for him here under our new manager. Working under O'Neill would be a great move for him. He's definitely not a 10. However if you want a non-stop running chasing midfielder, a sort of downgrade SJW, someone whose sole job is to disturb the opposition when they're getting desperate then I suppose McClean could have some purpose as a 90th minute sub. Especially if he plays for Forest.

Actually, he's had more assists for us than anyone else I haven't seen the stats but even if that is the case it does not compensate for his ineptitude when presented with a chance himself, and his indiscipline in tracking back and defending. He isn't the standard we require but he's not as bad as people have said on here. In all, I'd be happy to see him leave for 3 million, even though I can see him being effective for o'neill

Admittedly I’ve not “seen” him often this season but I follow avidly on the radio (like the “good old days” before the premier league) and the disappointment and frustration on the commentators voices is palpable as they repeatedly say “and MacLean loses it [again]”. This is on both Radio Stoke and on Signal 2 (online) so you can imagine the impression formed.

Oh please please please be true.... Never wanted him at stoke, knew the baggage he would bring and an even worse footballer than I ever imagined he would be.
Come on Martin make the move happen, along with the appointment of a progressive manager with a clear vision of taking the club forward getting rid of him will be another plus

We're in the Championship, not the Premier League but it's interesting that a number of respected and successful managers have given him plenty of games at that level ( 160 if your figure is correct - I actually thought it wasn't as many as that), not to mention his impressive international record. Are they all wrong ? I'm not saying that he's the best player we have, or that he will fit well into the formation that NJ wishes to play, just that an objective assessment of the evidence doesn't support the conclusion that he is a very poor player ( to paraphrase the abusive language).

Thank you. As I've said in the posts above, I don't think his playing record at the top levels of the game supports the conclusion that he's rubbish.
