Ince was poor with his finishing, not exactly sure if he couldn't get his angles right playing in a different position? McClean though... All he had to do when he had that chance was square it to Afobe for a tap in but he never looks up to see if a man is available for the pass. That’s because he doesn’t possess any kind of nous or intelligence on a football field.

I can cope with Ince. He’s at least got a bit of talent and offers some kind of menace and eye for goal. McLean, on the other hand is everything I feared he would be and more. Devoid of any composure, skill, or anything that you need from a wide player. He’s absolutely crap, and he’s cost us £6 million over four years on silly money. McClean makes Jon Walters look like Zico. I gave Walters some stick over the years but McLean isn’t fit to lace JW’s boots. And that’s got nothing to do with political beliefs, and everything to do with what I’ve seen this season with my own eyes. He’s wank.

Appreciate he has somehow got the most assists in the team as he can put in a good ball once every 100 crosses, but not once does he ever look up and try to pick a man out.

www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tom-ince/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/157368Ince's record at this level is as good as anyone over a number of years. 74 goals in 235 games. But his form is a concern, and if he can't adapt to that role at the tip of the diamond, what then? McClean though? He's obviously completely finished here. But who's going to buy him when he's got 3 years left on top, top Championship money? No idea, but we should be trying to move him in and see if anyone bites - and I'm sure we are. Not least of which because there appears no place for him in NJ's diamond. There are no wingers in the system, so he is likely to be consigned permanently to the bench. I suspect knowing that probably isn't going to help McClean's form.

Of course, but the thread is about two useless fucks that we have spent £15million on who offer nothing. Ince wasn’t bad tonight bar a few missed chances. McClean is what he is but I’d rather see both of them on the pitch than Crouch who offers nothing because he’s 5 yards behind play all the time! He was awful Juergen- it was like watching a totally disinterested ECM without the skilful bits; in fact he has looked totally disinterested since Boxing Day.

But it's going to take a club of a certain standing to offer him the kind of contract to make it possible, and it's hard to see one emerging. But we can only hope.

Hmm - that's an interesting idea. Although MON isn't restricted to Irish players now, which may be a problem with the plan! Could be one to watch though.

Trouble with Tom Ince is that he plays as an individual not as part of a team. The fact he has scored a few has sort of hidden this fact. He will only pass or cross in the final third as a last resort.
James McClean does nothing, again because he works hard it deceives people. Id rather someone who works smart not works hard

punditarena.com/football/nmenezes/food-thought-james-mcclean-make-ideal-left-back/We must surely look into converting him into a full back? We won't be playing Bruno there any more so even just as an option to cover for Pieters seems like a possible two birds with one stone solution. Not sure about his desire to be converted into a full back but he certainly ticks some boxes for how Jones described what he wants from his full backs.

Bite the bullet, cut our losses and fuck him off to the first daft club to enquire as to his availability- even offer to pay half his wages if necessary - should never have signed him

You trust us to identify and sign a young adventurous full back to improve us? I'm not against that, I just have no faith in us doing it. If McClean (possibly) has attributes which would serve the team better in a more defensive role, it might just be a way of not having to write off millions of pounds. Again.

Haven't read all the posts, but some players (actually more than you would expect) don't actually like football. Yeah I know it's a dumb thing to say, but for some it's just a job & a job that they hate but have to do. For players like Ince, he has nothing else. He could go to work in ASDA or down the market, van driving, behind the bar on the beach, but they won't give him the money he earns playing football. So basically he's a con artist, but then again he can play when he wants & if someone wants to sign him up then that's their look out. He'll always be a mixture of crap & skill when he can be bothered. Would the main man ever have signed him? No! Would they main man have signed the poppy hater? No! Would the squad have been able to fuck about with the main man? Well we all know that answer. I'd rather be bored to death in Premier than back in League One.

I wouldn’t trust him to time a tackle on the halfway line - I certainly don’t want him trying to do it in our penalty area!

When has he ever put in a good challenge for all the 'hard work' and 'running around' that he does? If he puts a challenge in, he gives away a foul.

Can I just point out that McLean & ince were brought for a different style that wasn't even complete.. rowett didnt buy them for NJ's system..just saying like because it seems to have gone unoticed 😁 I think Rowett bought McLean to show everyone who was boss. An unpopular signing who he could turn around to show what a great manager he is.

I take the point but defending as a forward is different to defending as a defender is it not? It probably is a non-starter for the reasons highlighted, and that it's probably quite difficult to convert a not-very-good-29-year-old winger to a full back with any great success, but isn't trying something like this in training slightly less bonkers than just writing off millions to fire him off?

Tom Ince Played for 10 clubs by the age of 26. That’s enough clubs to lose their patience with him 9?

What would this 'complete' system have looked like? It would have had defenders daring to push further forwards for starters without the worry of being caught out by a simple ball over the top so easily, in turn the midfield could have gone further forward to support the 3 higher up and afobe wouldn't have been so isolated, neither would the wide men

I don't, I think he brought him to play in a system that he never had chance to use to its full effect because half the squad is still rubbish It doesn't help that, whatever system you play him in, he just isn't up to scratch - even as a 'Championship' footballer.
And that's not even taking his considerable baggage into account either.
WBA must still be laughing their cocks off.
And doing so having only just dried out their under garments after having sold us Berahino for twice as much.
Fair do's, I get that SB was probably a calculated gamble & / or us not being able to help ourselves when a (supposed) 'bargain' pops up (see also: Clucas) but am still amazed no one at the club pushed back on Rowett & told him to get a grip when he wanted JMcC.
Woeful signings both. And we're stuck with them unless we give them away.
