I do hope not too many people who were dishing out 0s and 1s suddenly rush to 10s tonight...
That really, truly has been coming for a while. A performance like tonight's doesn't suddenly come out of the blue, even if's maybe 18 months since we had the confidence. There was just so much character on show out there but also, evidence of mutual trust between the lads on the pitch and the manager (despite, I'm ashamed to say, some home fans early on tonight).
It was also about the way Gary's handled several keys players. Ryan S could so easily have drifted out of the picture, instead he's been able to fight his way back, which speaks volumes about the man but also the manager. Jack could have gone into a hissy fit and onto the transfer list, instead tonight he was a giant. Bera looked a waste of space, now he's more than useful and to a lot of people's surprise including mine, he's doing it for the team. Ince, Clucas, the new signings were bedded in superbly.
Ok maybe we won't do this every week, but we're officially a football team again, at long last. If we can do that with 10, just think what we could do with 11 - but actually the spur of going down to 10 did no harm tonight, maybe that's how we finally found our new, but totally Stoke, DNA.
So bloody proud of us all right now.

Good substitutions for a change. Derby fans should know you don't give Rowett an opportunity to park the bus because he'll take it. Brilliant performance just felt like the good ol' days!

9, Best lineup of his tenure here compared to the opponent. +1 for Putting Martina in with Pieters, it worked at home and our play on the wings looked massively improved not having McClean and Edwards start I feel. I would have those two start away from home next mind you as they graft harder defensively. Rotation, rotation. For once I felt like he was watching the match and making changes to better the position of our team mid-match. Night and day difference in management from him to be honest the subs were just right on.

To a man every player turned up, especially after the red card for Etebo. First 10 minutes of the second half was tense as we knew they would come at us, but we weathered the storm and still threatened and indeed scored.
Whatever Rowett said today did the trick but we need to keep our momentum going, cos the next 3 games can make or break our season.
Oh and Clucas was superb.
Great effort by the lads.

10 He's finally managed to generate some team spirit and confidence and, to be fair, he has got an aging and quite dodgy defence playing better than the sum of its parts would suggest is possible. Got the subs right as well - I was especially pleased to see Edwards get a couple of minutes. After last Saturday's performance Tom needed the chance (however brief) to "get back on the bike."
Let's hope this is our Man Citeh moment and the players (and the fans) can build on this great performace.

10* That's how we need to play every game no matter who we are against, even with ten men we always looked a threat. Subs were just right and at the right time. Can't knock anything just got to build on that and not take any backwards steps.

10. Got the lineup right as we were the better team before the sending off and can't be blamed for Etebo's bad challenge. The players are clearly playing for him on that performance which is a good sign.

That was no ordinary victory tonight. Be honest, the bond between the players was wonderful. We so often talk of the lack of, and the importance of team spirit, well Joe Allen showed it tonight ...'come on you twat I'll fuckin' have you'.. ha ha

9 We've drawn too many games and we haven't been creating enough chances but the organisation and work ethic has been coming together for a number of games. Today we got the reward for getting the basics right.

I was worried about this one, especially when I saw the starting line up, but that was a superb performance.
Plenty of character on display, more aggression than we're seen previously this season and we're starting to see some semblance of team spirit that's been missing for a while.
Brave starting line up, decent substitutions, and a massive win against a side that were up for getting one over on us......and with only 10 men. There's nowt like a bit of handbags and a sense of injustice to get Stokie's fired up, and the crowd were superb tonight.
10 from me - now let's build on it.

This has nothing to do with previous games like Wigan,Birmingham, West Brom, Blackburn etc where we have been absolute dross and he has deserved the 1s as it’s not acceptable. Tonight a massive 10 as after a shaky start they were well on top. Subs well used, and he had his player bang up for it. Now please rowett (and players) let’s see more of this and kick on.

Why wouldn't you give it a 10 even if the previous week's were low scores? You say it's been coming for a while. Well, why wouldn't you give a manager a score of 1 or 0 for his performance against QPR, in taking off his wingers at the same time as bringing on a beanpole of a striker that feeds off wingers? It got a 0 because it deserved it. Ridiculous management. Last night his subs were spot on and how he approached the situation with 10 men was spot on. Last week a deserved 0. This week a deserved 10. *

9 No problems with the starting line up. He rightly benched McClean after his defensive shit show and I hope he continues with Clucas in that role. But loses a point for the continued bizarre inclusion of Fletcher in the squad....you have enough defensive midfielders garry lets have some imaginative attacking options in there. We weren't chasing the game last night so he got away with it. Rowett has to follow this up with a positive attacking display in the next 2 games....too many draws have left us with a mountain to climb, he simply has to string wins together or the season is over.
