I won't be going because I think this is a competition we shouldn't be in. The FSF Conference debated this and came out in opposition to this format. Fans of many L1 & L2 clubs are boycotting the competition because of the introduction of under 21 teams from PL and Championship. Some are just boycotting games involving those teams. I support them, and to go would feel a bit like crossing a picket line. It's their competition not ours. We wouldn't have liked this when we won it "two times". The problem being Malcolm that unfortunately any boycott wont happen, Coventry boycotted last season yet sold out the semi final and took 40000 to wembley. Lets face it any L1 + L2 team that gets to a wembley final wont boycott it will they so the whole point of attempting it is pointless. This game is a different situation. Its a stand alone derby regardless of the competition.

I’m viewing this one as a blessed respite now. A bit of nostalgia, few beers in the aft, no pressure. Got be more enjoyable than that shower from earlier.

I am with malcom on this. They have ruined a perfectly good comp for the lower two divisions in the name of greed. We shouldn't be anywhere near this comp. I have great memories of our two trips to Wembley. But it just wouldn't feel the same if we got there in this comp. How many of the 4000 have actually watched the kids play? Not many is my guess. Many of our younger stokes have not had the pleasure of a blood and thunder potteries Derby so I guess this is the reason for the ticket sales. Sorry lads this is not a potteries Derby it's a pale imitation of one.

I agree with other posters that we shouldn't really be in this as it is a trophy for the lower leagues. However I couldn't give a flying fuck for this one as it's the Vale. It's a night to take the piss, hope the boys beat their first team and rub it right in that we are the only team in this fine city. I have loved reading their messageboard this week, the absolute bullshit they are coming out with to not turn up to this game has been second to none. They are an embarrassing set of twats they really are.

The thing that really makes me laugh reading their forum is that they think we see this a glamour tie. That is not the saddest thing though folks, they call their own city Sjoke and call us stokies as if they are from a different place from us.

At the end of the day we are playing Vale ! Many of the younger ones on here have never and may never see it again if they continue on their downward spiral or they have to wait for a cup draw that may never happen! So if anyone wants to go as I am why blame them as they may never get the chance to see the historical goal mouth bog that denied Dave Regis of his goal all those years ago and is up there with vales best moments. It’s not about the competition at all it’s about a game of football one team in red and white and one in the other colours !!
As for Vale boycotting it that’s just embarrassing especially at home as you should support your club regardless on an occasion like this as they have always been the bigger club don’t you know !
I agree the competition is a farce and shouldn’t be set out as it is but it is what it is !
At least we can come home with a sense of fulfilment no matter what the score knowing that we have done our bit for charity with our ticket money so close to Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL !!

I feel absolutely sure he would, as would I. Fair play to those who are going and I hope they have a great night. It will be a great experience for our young lads but it is not a competition we should be involved in in my opinion.

I wasn't old enough to go to any away games at vale park when we were in the same league. So any chance to watch stoke at vale park is a one I'll jump at, even if it is the kids. Makes me laugh seeing numerous amounts of people are 'boycotting' the game, like it's some big stand against the establishment. Stoke are playing at vale, regardless of competition and regardless of what the side is, it's a chance to take the piss out of a half built stand and I can't bloody wait

Malcolm, normally I would agree with you and I detest the current format, but as my mate old Boothen Ender Billy used to say to me... "Micky, you let your principles get in the way too often. Just occasionally you have to drop them and enjoy yourself." I'm not going, but my twin grandsons are. They've never experienced a local derby against the Unwashed and I'm going to enjoy them going. The fact that we've outsold them at their place by 10/1 is just brilliant. And just imagine if our kids win this one! That would be the glace cherry on top of the icing of the cake. If we lose we can't lose. After all, it's just a run out for our kids against the best they can offer. M.

If Vale made the final they probably would buy loads of tickets but they've never been to Wembley, and that's a much more appetising prospect than facing Stoke u23s at home.

Yes, this match isn't actually about the competition, it's about a one off match against Vale. If we win, then there'll be no bugger there for the next match because virtually everybody thinks the competition is a load of nonsense.

The thing that really makes me laugh reading their forum is that they think we see this a glammer tie. That is not the saddest thing though folks, they call their own city Sjoke and call us stokies as if they are from a different place from us. My favourite thing is that they refer to this site as the "bloatcake" or some variation, as if they don't stuff their faces with the breakfast of champions every morning. Comical.

And after 26 years (Christ that makes me feel old😯) the penny still hasn't dropped. Because they're a special kind of stupid 😎

Personally, any rare opportunity to belittle the Vile live and direct, take over their town in numbers and laugh at the cleft-lipped mutants inside their own half-built stadium should be seized with both hands.
It's got to better than watching Rowettball and our youngsters get to play in front of a good crowd, most of whom will be supporting them.

Like many I’ve mixed feelings regards the ‘invited’ teams participation .... but have attended all the Checkatrade games to date , not least because Ive even stronger feelings regards many things that have happened in football and continue to happen ...
Fences Football violence Home club’s keeping gate receipts VAT added to football admission True Supportrs Cards Blanket ban for us at Millwall The Premiership Weakened teams played in cup comps Semis played at Wembley Reduced cup replays Prices
The list is endless
If I boycotted any game(s) / competition(s) for any one of the above reasons then I’d have to boycott others for other reasons on the list ..I’d be left with no games to attend a long , long time ago and sold my soul and principles to the devil equally as long ago

Our kids managed draws Vs two teams that have beaten the Vale this season, so them winning isn't even that much of a given.
