I wonder why he was banging them in last season, the season before that, AND the season before that? At worst he had a ratio of a goal every 225mins.
It’s very easy to blame the bloke not scoring but maybe look at the 10 other players on the pitch too?
I agree it is disappointing and I’m sure there’s crosses coming in that he simply isn’t anticipating but cmon, he hasn’t had 3 good seasons then become shit! Have a word.

Is he that good though? His runs off the ball lack intelligence, his anticipation is poor. I've seen Edwards whip many good balls in to the box and not once has he been in the right place. His touch is pretty poor. He scored early in the season as all we did is attack.
Don't get me wrong we aren't helping him but on the other hand he isn't helping himself. Penalty against Leeds - I don't remember us attacking much, but we did manage 5 shots on target same as Leeds. Scored against Brentford in what Sky described as: " Benik Afobe put City in front in comical fashion in the first half " due to a defensive error. Scored 2 early goals against ShWed before they settled in; interestingly Diouf was also in the side that day. We only had 4 shots on target, same as ShW, although we had 59% possession. I don't think we attacked much in early season matches, only after we went 2 or 3 goals down did we dominate play, probably due to the opposition aiming to hold onto their lead. Having possession is not the same as attacking.

Funny? I thought Stoke was managed by Rowett since May, and he is accountable for the team performance.

Yes he ultimately carries the can but he’s unfortunately inherited a stoke team that is full of failures, with failure attitudes. Fair play he dropped shawcross and our defence has improved significantly, and has likely missed out on many players he really wanted through the likely ineptitude of the board/transfer team. It’s just plain lazy to suggest it’s rowett or afobe.

Funny? I thought Stoke was managed by Rowett since May, and he is accountable for the team performance. Rowett made Afobe his number one priority striker signing on the basis of his goal scoring record at this level. He, therefore, needs to set the team up to make the most of Afobe's undoubted ability to score 15+ goals in a season at this level. That does not include sticking him up front alone and isolated, with no link play from midfield to play balls down the channels for him, and instead hoofing long balls to his head or crosses where he must challenge against burly centre halves. He will beat defenders with his pace when they have to turn to track his runs, beat keepers when he gets a chance to whip in a shot on the break before they are set. Our ponderous approach play and lumped balls into his general vicinity, with minimal support, does him absolutely no favours. Play Bojan or Saido (or Ince when fit again) as number 10/support striker, or Diouf as the physical focal point with Afobe playing off him, press higher up the pitch to win possession in transition, look to play balls more quickly on the counter attack (like the one Woods so expertly played that should have lead to Pantilimon's dismissal last weekend), and Afobe will start to score goals again.

Crosses are no good, he needs threaded balls in behind to run onto and finish. The one player we have who could potentially do that will not be picked by Rowett. Bang on the money here Pugs. My Wolves supporting mate raves about him but says you need to get the ball to him early and let him turn and use his pace to get in behind. Exactly the ball he received on Saturday and got brought down. He's still bitter about losing him and says he's exactly what they are missing this year in the Premier League.

It's a team game - singling out Afobe is missing the point. We are looking far tidier at the back - and early season sorting the defence out was the priority - but the midfield and forwards still aren't completely in tune. It's not as if Afobe is missing sack loads of chances - the players around him aren't picking the passes for him and he isn't anticipating the right move at the right time. If and when things do gel he'll get goals at this level - but it will be the result of better teamwork as much as anything.

Which we aren't. We're a mid table Championship side with decent Championship quality players learning how to get out of the Championship. Shit got real.

We are having to break teams down which imo doesn't suit afobe.

We’ve got wingers that simply aren’t quick enough and a ponderous midfield that isn’t keen to commit going forward.

Agree with fast wingers though True, we are pump when it comes to dealing with the high ball, and it has resulted in several occasions where we can’t cope and look like we’re running through treacle. I think to players like James Collins as an example of a slow CB who had the intelligence to deal with that threat tho and then shawcross who (admittedly did used to cope) that now looks to make last ditch challenges to get out of trouble. I’d love us to have a quicker option there but I think we’ve got to get the ball out wide to the wingers and let them with the fullbacks break on the counter. It’s crap all over to be honest 😂

It’s crap all over to be honest 😂 It's not great atm for sure but at long last we have a manager that can organise a defence, even with players over the hill. Tbh I've said many times I think afobe is the wrong type of striker for us atm, I think we need another in Jan of a different type, someone who can hold the ball and link in with other players, I was saying the same when the summer window was still open (the lad from Denmark Onuachu fits the bill, big, mobile & a goalscorer, someone who the ball will stick too allowing others to get closer to goal). I think Rowett is handicapped atm, we got caught out earlier in the season with simple balls now I think he's cautious of it and is adjusting the play to suit. This season It's about getting to January now for me whilst still in touch with the pack and a couple of tweaks in the right areas ( CB & Target man type of striker) and it will make a noticeable difference. Next summer is the big one for me if we don't go through the back door this season. I'd expect to see as many as 8 new players with a lot of the dead wood & out of contract players out, then it's game on with no excuses

Sorry but this is all about anticipation. Any forward worthy of the name whether they’re in behind men or target men should have it.
You have to be on the end of balls into the six yard box. Tom ExaRds has put great balls in to the invisible men.
It’s not about Rowett it’s not about tactics. It’s straightforward bascic forward play.
If the balls crossed he should be in their.
Waiting for the perfect threaded through ball all day and throwing up our hands up when it doesn’t arrive is pathetic.
Thanks n most teams now you’ll be waiting a long long time. And that tactic is sussed. You just defend deep . Easy.
Crosses into the six yard box are hard to defend.
Afobe needs to adapt or die

Coates kind of gave the green light aided by sales of several players, I’m not sure if he’ll sanction much in January, quoting inflated prices as usual. Hopefully it’s a confidence issue too and the arrival of a better CB could be the missing piece defensively. Add in another, pacy winger and I think we’ll come good. The midfield looks much better and hopefully the end of fletcher and Adam (positive contributions aside). But we are really weak out wife which needs addressing. Look at the other teams pushing for promotion they’ve all got pace in the right areas. Bringing the goals conceded down is very positive from where we were last season and the start of this, now it’s time to focus on counterattacks and moving the ball forward with more positivity. No team seems to fear us which is fine because that creates gaps and opportunities.
