He really has lost any rights hasn't he.
I actually agree with his position but let the record show, if things get really nasty, that it was Mr McClean who took the gloves off.

I'm just glad he's toss or I would have had a difficult decision 😉 now he gets told to "go on a journey" or words to that effect, what's Mr Rowetts view on players using the media, oh yes, I remember......

The club still have difficult decisions to make... If they say it is okay for fans to abuse one of their players for being an Irish Republican then are they are also saying it is okay to abuse a Stoke player for being black? Or being Muslim? Or some other reason? Will be interesting to see what they do

Pretty sure our Muslim players wore a poppy, in fact any of our foreign players did, and lets face it, we have probably been at war with them at some point.

Seen the various videos of the Boro fans that are going around ? Does this club or city really want to look like that?

Don’t care if anyone wears a poppy or not, it’s a personal choice and one for which we should all be thankful we can make. I just hope that GR now decides to drop him coz he’s crap

When you consider everything, Ability, baggage, salary and contract length you have to think that McClean will be Rowetts Palacios. Dreadfull signing.

It is totally unacceptable for an employee of the club to aim offensive, aggressive insults at its supporters.

It is totally unacceptable for an employee of the club to aim offensive, aggressive insults at its supporters. For me it's a difficult situation because for me, it is bullying , and if an individual is being picked on by a group ( in this case for not wearing a poppy ) , I don't think it is fair to say he just has to take it , in silence and not respond . I understand where you're coming from , in describing his language as insulting , and I think lots of people would see it that way . But if a small group of people are more interested in shouting abuse at a player , than watching the game , then they should expect some verbals back . He is not as good as ethers and Arnie and that's why he won't be here long , but as a person I think he has done nothing wrong . I think he has a solid character and I admire him for standing up for itself . I would much rather share a drink with James maclean , than the individuals shouting abuse at him Though I agree , he is nowhere near as good as arnie and ethers and for that reason , won't be at the club as long as them . Which is fair .

James McLean is a multi-millionaire footballer with all the power that wealth brings. He has access to mass media platforms to express his views clearly and forcefully that the vast majority of supporters do not have. He has chosen to attack supporters (many of whom do not have the social advantages that Mr Mclean enjoys) of the club that employs him. He did not have to do this. Not as good as Ethers or Arnie is stretching it; he is not in the same league as Richard Cresswell.

The mind boggling decision to sign this player by the Stoke Board did not Suprise me one bit. A club with probably a higher percentage of Armed forces supporters past and present than most, signs a player who refuses to wear a Poppy. I and many others didn’t need an epiphany to predict this. I don’t think his comments will be forgotten and I don’t see this ending well. He isn’t clever enough to keep his mouth shut and Stokies will probably make their feelings clear.

He needs a lengthy ban but fans abusing him should receive bans in my view

His signing was a problem we didn't need. Stunned how coates sanctioned the deal for a very average footballer who would bring more controversy than quality to the team. Surely there were other wingers who would have come to stoke with alot less baggage.

I respect your opinion but I disagree with it Imo he was in a minority of one yesterday and I respect him greatly for standing up for himself Would those abusing him , have been as vociferous if they had been in a minority of one , and mclean had been with his mates ? We will never know but I doubt it Fair play to him for standing up for himself , being open and honest and true to his roots . I like him , I am happy to buy him a drink . But I agree he is a bang average player and I won't miss his footballing ability on Saturday afternoon .

McClean is an idiot who has robbed himself of any high ground he might have had with his statement today.
Let’s be clear about this though, he hasn’t abused all Stoke fans, just the morons who sing that stupid song about the Vale and the IRA and all that other stuff. And they’re prepared to dish it out in spades, so quite why there’s the pearl clutching when they get it back is beyond me. Fans are not above reproach.
McClean’s Instagram statement was distasteful and embarrassing, but so are the twats who sing that song. Both stain our club.
