Don’t care if anyone wears a poppy or not, it’s a personal choice and one for which we should all be thankful we can make. I just hope that GR now decides to drop him coz he’s crap After his comments I would be surprised if he plays again this season What comments are they?

McClean is an idiot who has robbed himself of any high ground he might have had with his statement today. Let’s be clear about this though, he hasn’t abused all Stoke fans, just the morons who sing that stupid song about the Vale and the IRA and all that other stuff. And they’re prepared to dish it out in spades, so quite why there’s the pearl clutching when they get it back is beyond me. Fans are not above reproach. McClean’s Instagram statement was distasteful and embarrassing, but so are the twats who sing that song. Both stain our club. I agree but the simple facts are that McClean repeatedly asks supporters to respect his views then goes out of his way to disrespect theirs. He's a hypocrite of the very highest order. Peter Coates has made a grave error in sanctioning the signing of McClean and he has to act. He has to find him another club in January and tell Rowett to keep him out of the side. If Rowett disagrees then he should be shown the door as well. It won't happen but it's how I feel about the situation.

Is that hypocrisy? It’d be hypocrisy if he was disrespecting the fans who’d been respectful of him?

I'm talking about statements before games then turning back on Anthems, strolling out during periods of silence, that kind of shit. Nobody can give one single positive why he's at Stoke City.

Nobody can give one single positive why he's at Stoke City. Rowett thinks he is a good player. Rowett appears to be gambling his employment on McLean's ability. Rowett has been given all of the resources needed to get our team promoted. If Rowett manages those resources effectively we will be promoted. If not he should be sacked. Any team in this division who can afford to leave players of the quality that we leave out of our match day squad, whilst selecting very, very average players like Mr McLean should get promoted by Easter.

Just curious as this isn’t your usual stance when it comes to fans giving players stick and getting it back?

People need to brush it under the carpet until the end of the season and support the team. We don't need this shit we are trying to get out of the league

We don't need this shit we are trying to get out of the league The one who really needed to stay quiet was McClean himself, had he kept his mouth shut for just one day we wouldn’t have to deal with this at all. In future he should avoid the ground for the weekend around this time of year, it just causes unnecessary trouble.

I must have missed that, not been on this side the weekend Some* fans. Still not classy or clever, but there is a distinction some are only too happy to overlook... A stupid thing to say in a world that is very black and white. It was also poor management from Rowett to put him on. Only gave him 10 mins to impact a game and threw him to the lions. Created an even bigger wedge between the player and the support and invited him to face even more abuse when he plays at away grounds. The support shouldn't pick the team but the manager needs to be pragmatic at times. He should also fine the player. Calling some supporters 'cunts' is unacceptable and puts the club in a bad light.

To call SCFC fans 'cunts' should instantly carry a sacking offence. Kick him out of Stoke City. If we have to fight the league, the PFA, court action etc so be it.
It crossed a line. A bloody big line. I would rather stick Ryanx on the wing until January if needed.
And whoever sanctioned a 29 year old winger on a 4 year deal who is at best average ? Jeez. You need to go too.

What’s all the fuss about will be the comment from the club. That’s it.
We are a Backward thinking club and back in the doldrums for very long time.
Doing a great job lads.

To say that some of the abuse he gets (which can be very sectarian, this very site had someone calling him a fenian cunt) is the same as him criticising fans on a social media site is not on.
He wouldn't say that about his own fans unless they've been saying something awful, which given the block and stand it was they probably did.

Should we ban all fans who call players 'cunts'? Well we are not employed by the club are we? So completely different is ‘cunts’ help to fund his wage my going to matches p So as long as you're funding anything, then you can demand respect from everyone but afford none to anyone in return? Cracking! Just because they aren't employees it doesn't mean they're allowed to turn up to a stadium owned by someone else and do/say what they want. To suggest the fans are fine to behave how they want towards others just because they pay to get in is one of the most pathetic, weak and ludicrous arguments i've ever seen on this board in order to justify the embarrassing behaviour of some of our "fans". What McClean has said is embarrassing for the club, but i'd wager a lot on the fact that neutrals seeing our fans hurling dogs abuse at one of our own players is even more embarrassing. McClean's political views are well known in football and mostly no one but the fans of the club he happens to be playing for really give a shit nowadays and it isn't a big news story at all. People on here have been saying all week it's always a big negative news story following him...NEWSFLASH it really isn't because most neutrals would struggle to name the club he even currently plays for! He isn't a big name and therefore 99% of footy fams don't give a flying fuck. A couple of papers mention it, neutrals read it then largely completely forget about it and get on with their day but the fans of his own club turn it into a major deal even though no other fucker gives a shit anymore as it's REALLY old news. It's pricks like the fans behaving like this that publicise it far more and turn it into an embarrassment. That's the irony...the days building up to this match i don't think i'd seen anything about McClean in the media...but now because of some of our OWN fans, it's all over the papers this morning! Well done lads! Bravo! P.S. can we PLEASE finally drop this utter bullshit of fans ticket money paying player's wages? It's not 1980 anymore! The gate receipts won't even make up more than about 2% of the club's annual revenue. It's massively over dramatised bollocks to say fans pay their wages..they don't! P.P.S. before anyone accuses me of taking McClean's side, i think he's gash in general as a player but i am also grown up enough to realise that if the club's own fans stopped making a big issue of it, it wouldn't even be remembered by/cross the minds of anyone else in football every year in the first place. He's allowed his opinion and we're allowed ours. If either side are completely disrespectful and abusive towards the other's opinion then they should be treated with the contempt they deserve, whether they're fans OR players.

It had been in at least 3 national newspapers and the BBC website leading up to the game. The club issued a statement. McClean has repeatedly issued statements. He then goes against exactly what he asking for. He's a hypocrite. Have fans over reacted - undoubtedly, but it is an emotive and provocative subject. Both sides are as bad as each other.
