Shilton:
Disliked by everybody and not as good as he was cracked up to be. A poor replacement for his mentor Banksy.
Should have shown some loyalty and stuck with John Farmer.

Ryan Shotton would piss into our side now. Maybe not on the wing though;) Where the ? He's no better (or worse) at right back than any of the three we have. Centre back?

People always say this and I know he wasn't hugely popular in the dressing room but I remember Shilton also making some remarkable saves for us. I also seem to remember there were some issues with John Farmer at the time, I don't think he was in the best place mentally. John Farmer never played any pro football from the age of 27 after Shilton arrived at Stoke, just a few games for Northwich. He was a talented goalkeeper though no doubt.

Totally agree, especially re;John Farmer, very underestimated keeper in my opinion Banksy was an impossible comparison for him, but to my knowledge, never let the team down

Still my best memory of a Stoke win, better than the 6-1 against Liverpool. The Arsenal game was not an end of season affair, plus the media reaction was less surprised than in the Liverpool game, largely because that Stoke team were respected as being bloody good.

Brek Shea. Pure jealousy - I would have given my back teeth to have played for Stoke and it pains me to this day that he got picked ahead of me. And I was a Sunday League player. Which is where he belonged. On the bench,
Bojan. One of the most talented footballers to ever put on a Stoke shirt but a bottler who looks like he will never fulfil his massive potential. Time after time he's gone into hiding after the first sniff of a physical challenge - it like having a red card in waiting type of player who doesn't even put in the effort to get a red card. His obsessive hordes of fanboys don't help. It's the fault of every manager he's ever played for that he doesn't get more game time when the reality is no sane manager would play ten men by choice. However, unlike in the case of Brek Shea, I'm sufficiently open minded to be proved wrong, Go on Bojan lad, grow some.

I foolishly had Shea put on the back of my shirt at the time due to the hype he came with & thinking he was going to be the real deal.. Doh..! Never wore that shirt again!

I’m finding it hard to look past Maclean if I’m honest. Never have I felt the way I feel about a stoke player. I was gutted when he only broke his arm and not his neck

I could never warm to Geoff Cameron for some reason. My theory is that you honorary Canadian's are hard wired to be suspicious of Americans! That would make perfect sense, although I disliked him long before I read about his political views. Plus I was another who actually quite liked Brek Shea when he first signed. Goodness knows why, Geoff seems like a much more likeable bloke overall.

The one good player I never really took to, was Roy Vernon.
It always seemed to me that he only did just enough to stay in the team but that he could have done so much more.
Maybe if I had been older at the time I might have been more appreciative of him.

Even now I'm still pissed off that we signed Shilton instead of keeping faith with Farmer and spending the money on an Osgood type signing. Probably wrong of me to resent the bloke but I totally do. I wasn't alive at the time but I've heard this said so many times, that even I'm pissed off about it now!!

The ball from that penalty is set to show up on satellite images every 78 years or so. Remember that lovely little curler from the corner of the box though? Can't remember who against.

Salif Diao - will forever be the worst footballer I’ve ever seen Dave Kitson - Sanctimonious bellend Danny Collins - He was offensively crap Badou N’Diaye - plainly didn’t want to be here from day one Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting - arsehole Charlie Adam - gets on my absolute tits and is only grating even more with his utter bollocks he’s spouting to the media Never saw Steven Tweed play then.

Remember that lovely little curler from the corner of the box though? Can't remember who against. Annoyingly, no. 😜 I want to say it was against Cov but I'm probably wrong. Was hit from the right hand side of the box in the top left in front of the south stand I think. Almost moved in slow motion as it curled just inside the angle of bar and post. There is a small chance I've imagined the whole thing however!

Perhaps I’m wrong in putting this one forward as a Stoke player....................Jese Half decent players though, he hasn't done anything redeemable so it's not so surprising. I think OP is looking for unfashionable opinions! I always thought Whelan was over rated and thought we could have replaced him with a better option. We tried to replace him for nine seasonsl Never succeeded. We're still trying so that is 11th season now.

We never signed a Whelan replacement, we tried to sign about a million new N'Zonzis and fucked that up too, leaving us with about a thousand box to box mids... We signed loads of players that relied on high energy and pressing, Fletcher used to do it for UTD, Allen does it for us now except Whelan was never that, he was disciplined and held his position.

I can’t stand butland.. he strikes me as an only child like a bit of a spoilt matdarse. Another thing is he hasnt even been that good of late and cost us a lot of points in the relegation season so for him to be wanting out I personally think championship/bottom half of the prem is his level.
He said nowhere near as good as Pickford aswell so he can forget that
