It isn't fucking Ryan's fault we're in this bastard mess.
The manager might allude to him with his comments but he'd be better off looking closer to home for shortcomings.
He's making a fucking pigs ear of things. And he's way too fucking negative.

For me, Bruno was much worse today. I think if we can only drop one it should be Bruno. Both are too slow but Ryan is still better (and important) in the air and he was the one trying to get the ball forward in the last 20 mins. We looked better when he played with Williams.

Rowett has just said he's "shown too much faith in some players".. That's got to be Ryan he's on about surely?! Btw, yet again Bruno was utterly woeful next to him. He could be referring to any number of players there General. Bauer? 😀😁😬😭

This isn’t a debate about bmi and shawcross, our defence really is a shambles, they are all culpable none of them are any good, or at least theyr not showing it. But the OP is spot on. Shawcross is completely shot. He’s a legend, done brilliant things for scfc but all good things come to an end. And let’s get one thing straight, he is no leader or captain. You don’t see him marshalling the defence, bollocking people, gettin them goin if we fall behind. He doesn't even mark his man. He’s turned into a serial loser, just resigned to defeat all the time. Say what you want but that is true. N as long as he’s captain and a shoe in, we are fucked. End of

Has James Collins signed for Villa yet? I get the feeling the transfer team will be having a little chat with his agent next week and if successful, we'll see him and Williams at the back. Me too, done well as a pair for Wales over several years.

Me too, done well as a pair for Wales over several years. Rowett spoke about it in the week didn't he? What did he say, "I'm sure the transfer team have spoken to him to see what is out there incase it's needed" ? Given his words today about sticking with certain players for too long, I get the feeling the dice are already cast on this one and this is a situation that has been bubbling in the background for a while. Seldom do these things happen overnight in football.

Thanks for everything Ryan. Club legend. The three fuckers next to you should turn it in as well. Sorry Momo. I need to see replays, was Ryan personally at fault with any of the goals, was his play a contributing factor of an6 of the goals? It just seems (as normal) supporters have their targets (justified or not) for failure

Has any other club ever shown an interest in him? I don't recall so not sure where you get the number of top clubs from. Also he's had 10 years of handsome pay and he's been a big problem for 18 months. How many players contributed to 10 years of uninterrupted football at the top level for Stoke City?? Don't kick the bloke now. I'm not he's been good for us but he's never been rated that highly outside of Stoke and i can't recall any offer coming in for him. Take away his blood and thunder approach that he used to have and he becomes a very average if not poor footballer. The more he plays the more his reputation will get tarnished, that's just the way it is. At the end of the day Stoke are bigger than Shawcross and if him starting is causing us to drop points then he needs to be dropped, simple as that.

We need to stick by Shawcross as much as we can. Up to the Ramsey incident, he could have picked a number of top clubs to play for. However, Arsenal and the media put paid to that. To turf him off so quickly would be shit of us. He's not the problem!! Has any other club ever shown an interest in him? I don't recall so not sure where you get the number of top clubs from. Also he's had 10 years of handsome pay and he's been a big problem for 18 months. Shawcross & Stoke have been good for each other but a series of factors have stumped his progress along the way in a career that could have gone onwards & upwards had these factors not been such key events. The Ramsey incident was a big block on his career at the time as Wenger did his utmost to poison the footballing world against him.. But he did get through it & he kept his head down and continued to be a good servant for Stoke. The next career defining moment was Hodgson hanging him out to dry by giving him his proper England run out in the fading embers of the game against Sweden, tasked to mark an on fire Zlatan. That was his England chance & Zlaten made sure he didn't feature again.. Very poor management by Hodgson I feel.. I do think his Stoke career started it decline when he had his real bad back injury & associated factors that kept him out for a long stretch. He really never has seemed the same since this.. His goals from corners quickly dried up too which always a big part of his game for a few seasons. That coupled with the penalty incident where Mike Dean gave an early penalty v Man City for shirt pulling on Sterling kind of ended Shawcross's penalty area dominance.

Both Man City and Liverpool wanted him a few years back (£14m Man City and £8M Liverpool if memory serves). And much as I would agree that his place should no longer be a certainty, I have to ask why we are defending a high line - that has to be a managerial decision - particularly if you know your defenders are past their best and past their fastest. Mowbray is an experienced manager, but I could have worked it out. ...All you have to do is what Blackburn did - stick a fast player on the shoulder of the last man and drop balls over the top into the huge vacuous gap between the last man and the keeper for your nippy forward to run onto while your thirty-something central defender with a bad back and the turning circle of an oil tanker, not to mention the speed of a tired sloth, is left floundering. Yes we need some better defenders, but FFS if you’ve got the ones we have, you might want to adopt some tactics that accommodates their strengths and weaknesses.

Ryan is a legend and will go down as one of the prime movers in us achieving promotion to the Prem., achieving some great victories and leading us through our most successful period for 40 years. Unfortunately that has ended and he is also one of the reasons why. It is natural people should want to defend him now, we owe him a lot, but the hard facts are that last season he was no longer a Premier League player and that is one of the reasons we got relegated, and this season, he has not performed to Championship level.

It's going to be a shit state if affairs if Ryan starts getting dogs abuse after how he has served us.
If memory serves it happened to TC back in the day when his pace had gone but he was continually hung out to dry.
Take him out of the firing line before things turn ugly.

Talking to a Man. United supporter many years ago I got the impression that Ferguson looked on players at 30 plus as being in their way out of the club the minute they started to under-perform. It worked for him: "We identified three levels of players: 30 and older, 23 to 30, and the younger ones. The idea was that the younger players were developing and would meet the standards the older ones had set. I believe that the cycle of a successful team lasts maybe four years and then some change is needed." www.theguardian.com/football/2013/sep/10/alex-ferguson-manchester-united-blueprintWe have kept too many older players for too long instead of moving them on. Walters went because he couldn't get the extension to his contract that he wanted and now spends his time sitting on the bench at Burnley, which tells you something. We have too many underperforming players at all levels in the club and it will take some time to rid these out and re-balance the squad. Unfortunately I still see Division One as a possibility.

Don't get me started on the contracts extensions. It's almost like we are doing them a favour, heaven forbid these millionaires need to look else where for their over inflated salary. Legend or not, he and several others who received extensions should have been fucked off at least 18 months ago. Affelay another fine example, never fit so we give him 2 years extension. The club is run like a comedy sketch. It's the main reason we're in such a mess It's worse than that. Some of the decisions made make you wonder about kick backs tbh.

When we got relegated I thought we would keep a few key players but rebuild and rely on youth. The likes of Campbell, Sorensen, Edwards & Ngoy etc would be given a go but they haven’t and maybe they aren’t ready.

Unfortunately it'll come to a messy divorce rather than an amicable parting because he's getting fucking rings run round him every week. Real shame.

I've said this a couple of times. It's normally Ryan's back injury that is identified as the starting point of his decline. I actually think the starting point was breaking up the Huth / Shawcross partnership which, whilst Ryan was the captain, Huth was the clear defensive leader. Ryan played with more confidence knowing that Huth had has back and would be there to mop up his errors more often than not.
He scored within 8 minutes of his first start for us, was massive in the promotion push and early top tier seasons and is a club legend. But he is done, his head is the first down when opponents score. At let's face they have scored a lot over the last two calendar years. I can't see him recovering from an ability or confidence perspective.

I’m no great fan of Williams but we need to try a new partnership until the window opens?

With every game showing up the weakness in our defence, dawdling on signing James Chester is proving to be the worst of a multitude of bad decisions the club has made in recent times. That was a truly monumental fuck-up, and all over a few quid. Ambition my arse!!!
Whatever about Souttar, Sweeney and others, I am very worried that the club will somehow contrive to lose Nathan Collins, the best centre-half prospect I have seen in years. He's not ready yet (he's only seventeen or eighteen), but he's already with the U23's, and looks completely comfortable at that level. He could be a first-team player in two years, but should be introduced to that set-up much sooner than that.

Don’t defend the indefensible even if he is cherished by our club let’s live in the now not the past I'll give you the first one, his reactions to a spawny deflection were shite. The second they're playing offside. I thought it was offside at the time but karma's a bitch aint it? But I thought Graham came off Martina's shoulder for that one. Looking back the vid I've seen isn't clear but my reading is Martina was at fault. Martina is certainly between Shawcross and Graham in the vid I watched anyway. The third Shawcross had stepped out to engage the Blackburn player who was able to chest the ball down and control it in acres of space. Indi had Dack and Pieters had the ginge. Indi then for some inexplicable reason (probably because he's wank) just left Dack and ran inside towards no-one in particular. The ball was then reversed out to Dack free in the area. Peiters then had to go out to Dack to cover him leaving ginge free on the penalty spot. Dack then just squared it to him and he slotted home. Entirely down to wank play by Indi. If he stays with Dack they don't score. Simple. I'm not saying Shawcross' poor defending didn't contribute to our loss but to blame him personally for all three goals is just bullshit and lets the other three off the hook.

Liam Moore at Reading is quick
Jake Cooper at Millwall is excellent in the air ( better than shawcross ) and not super quick but a lot more nippy than shawcross
We need someone like either of those .
Anything other than a Merry-go-round of past it centre halfs , earning their last big fat pay check , before hanging their boots up
Being past it is a major issue in defending .Look at Glenn Johnson , he was a fantastic younger player , and worse than hopeless in his final season at Stoke
