How typical of our so called ‘brilliant’ nothing wrong with the Transfer Process of signing an injured player who will be playing catch up IF he stays fit for weeks yet.

Spoke to the lad tonight, he reckons he's about 3 weeks away from joining in training. Come across as a decent young man when I was chatting to him.

For Clucas see Wimmer. Not needed and just a waste of money. How many other clubs in this league would spend that money on a crock?.

Clucas will play LW or LB won’t he? Can’t see him being anything but cover now in CM. Exactly, he'll be cover for the left hand side and/or a utility player on the bench, if he ever gets fit. Absolutely bizarre signing really As long as he keeps Adam and Fletcher out of the side, that's OK with me; it's not my money.

Assume he is going to replace Diouf, outwide.

Assume he is going to replace Diouf, outwide. He's not. McClean, who is Rowett's favourite footballer, will get his place back when he returns from injury, which could happen before or at about the same as Clucas begins to gain fitness. He may be able to fill in at lb, but Pieters is highly rated by the manager, so Clucas is no more than second choice there. He has a better chance to find a position inside a still not entirely convincing midfield three, but it will be some time before he's to be reckoned with,

Absolutely bizarre signing really Didnt Rowett big him up for his versatility? Its a simple one for me he's our utility player and a security blanket for the manager in game, in that he can start LB and move to CM or LW if injuries or something goes out the window tatically during a game. He'll be on the bench when fit. Dont get the questioning of his signing, especially with Cameron gone makes sense to me.

The way I read it is that at the time we didn’t have any more money in the kitty for another centre midfielder and we would need to shift some out first to make room. We did however have some budget available for another left back as there was a gap in the squad there.
But I suspect Rowett was rightly concerned about the centre mid and decided he’d rather bring in another midfielder and Clucas had the added benefit of being able to fill in at left back when required. So in essence it was sort of killing two birds with one stone.
Providing Clucas gets back to full fitness we have got him at a decent price and as the games start to mount up, he will be coming in to add reinforcement at hopefully the right time. And his versatility will be an asset to us.
If we hadn’t have signed Woods his injury would be a major issue but as it is we can afford to be more relaxed about it.

Didn't Rowett intimate recently that if Clucas had been fit, we may not have signed Woods? Yes

Not needed currently, hence the decision to bring him in knowing he’s going to take a little while to reach full fitness. Once fit, he’s capable of covering should Woods pick up a knock or a suspension, which could prove invaluable since it looks like everything we’ve done well over the last two games has been anchored by him. He’s also capable of covering others in midfield, and when fully fit will probably be challenging in his own right for a spot, and he can also play left back if needed. I’m not sure what’s not to like considering what we paid for him, and the comparisons with Wimmer just make you look like a bit of a tool.

Swansea paid a rumoured £18million for him and we are to be believed to have paid £8 million, now that seems to be a good piece of business to me. His favoured position is central midfield but all through his career he has never been pigeon holed and done a admirable job at whichever role he has been asked to play. Have you ever seen him play in the flesh ? Because if you had you would already know that he’s stood out as a class above his peers, he’s also come through the hard way which gives him that motivation, hunger and drive to succeed and he also has that bit of arrogance on the pitch but not off it.

Clucas is a good player at Championship level. Always seems to be in space when he needs to be. That, on its own is an upgrade on many of our MF. Versatility is never a bad thing and I expect him to prove to be a bit of a steal at £8m. Good luck Sam. Sorry people are doubting you already!8

When he's fit he'll be too good to leave out of the team. He’all probably play a couple of games then be written off by at least half of this board as more money wasted as per most of our players.

Has he started full training yet? doesn't specify which training, but a ball at his feet is a good start. dugout.com/video/preparing-for-west-brom?v=eF9oJrgsHe looks to have been doing some kind of warm-up ball work as early as the the end of August (the footage on this link is apparently from the week leading up to the WBA away game) He must be further along now, but hard to know how far he is away from 'full' training? Presumably he'll need a mini pre-season of sorts once he's even at that stage, including a couple of U23 games. When he signed in early August, he was described as "maybe one week away from joining in full training, and possibly a further 1-2 weeks from match fitness" Then we were told we were going to leave it until after the early September international break, due to an abundance of caution. If he's not really close now to full training, it's a bit of a concern
