Beaten in straight sets by Naomi Osaka the first Japanese tennis grand slam winner men or women. Fascinating when you dig deeper, I though Naomi was an unusual name for a Japanese girl and it turns out while her mother is Japanese and she was born in Japan her father is from Haiti and went to New York University and they moved to the US when she was 3. Essentially she is a product of the USA and specifically the Florida Tennis Academy. She has a tennis playing sister with a pair of arms and shoulders to match, they just don't breed physical specimens like this in the Potteries, no wonder we can't produce any tennis champions!

I'm willing to bet that neither of those two have tackled a few chaize and bacon oatcakes.

She's 'standing up for women's rights' apparently, she'd have helped her cause (playing tennis) if she'd kept her mouth shut. Not a fan either.

Don't have an issue with Serena myself but I felt sorry for Osaka, the biggest moment in her life and no ones talking about it. She did remarkably well to not let the atmosphere hinder her performance one bit.

Can't stand tennis and never watch it. Seen this bit on the news and she does seem to be a bit "precious" - looks like a poor loser to me.

Just seen it Sorry can't cut and paste on phone It's fucking hillarous She calls the umpire a liar and a thief Women's rights, my arse. She's just a terrible loser. Then she prattled on in front of the umpire about not being a cheat and having a daughter at home and "I haven't cheated in my life". Losing the plot a bit if you ask me. As said; sore loser.

She's been so used to winning all this time, that she forgot how or never learned to lose with dignity. She's never lost a game where she's been at fault. There's always something that's unfairly gone against her... I cannot stand the cunt.

The original penalty was because she was receiving coaching from her coach in the stands. He has just been on R5 saying that he was coaching her, but she never saw him, the TV commentator saw it, the ref saw it, but she allegedly didn't.Utter bollocks. She then got a code violation and the loss of 1 game for verbally abusing the ref. Such a shame that all the attention is on this sore loser, and not Japan's 1st ever major winner...

"Just because because you're losing". If you can't play the race card, then give the old sex card a whirl. You broke the rules and got caught. End of.

Tennis is worse than football for the level of dissent show to officials
It actually needs harsher penalties

Ironic that on a football forum a tennis player (rightly) gets criticism for talking back at the umpire, but referee harassment in men's football happens many times in a game by both players and managers, yet football fans shrug it off.

It's something the Americans specialise in. If I had to try to name the biggest culprits for intimidating umpires it would be S Williams, McEnroe and Tarrango. Sharapova's got some history as well but her training was in the USA.

What a load of shitting gamesmanship on her part. Even has to bring her daughter into it....what’s it got to do with her? Classic spoilt brat.....gets caught out and then turns themself into the victim. Just surprised she didn’t claim the umpire to be racist.

Early reports hinted at racism but they decided to go with sexism. Racism isn't as en vogue as sexism! Me Too!

An ageing sports star wrestling with herself because she can no longer steamroller opponents with the reguarity she used to. Ageing and pregnancy take a toll.
Everybody else is copping for it under the guse of a plethora of womens'/civil rights stratagems until the realization sinks in.

I don't want to defend Serena as I'm far from being a fan of her tennis or attitude and the punishment was entirely justified. What's missing in the dialogue above is that she believes (and I've seen nothing to contradict her) that if the same action had been taken by a male player, the punishment would not have been as severe.
If that's true, (and I cannot judge that either way), then her comments afterwards about sexism are correct.

She's now saying it was her 'talent' that annoyed the umpire. You couldn't make this stuff up.

What a vile human being. Just watched it and what really pisses me off was the crowd cheering her on. Loved how the umpire was ramping up the punishment as her ranting continued eventually ending in a game penalty. You could have banked on the Womens Tennis Association coming out in support of her. Wonder what the Men’s Tennis Association had to say.....oh hang on there isn’t one. Sexism my arse.

Feel sorry for the Japanese girl her first ever major and Williams behavior overshadowed her. If Williams was a footballer and did the same thing on the pitch she would have been sent off.
