It’s a really tough one. 433? I’d go .......................Butland...................... Martina...Williams........Indi....Clucas .......................Woods...................... ...............Allen............Etebo............ ....Ince...............................McClean ......................Berahino................... I like that but how about Butland Martina Williams Indi Clucas New winger/Dioufy Woods Etebo Ince Afobe Bera Subs, Shawcross, allen, crouch, Fedders, Diouf/New winger, Bauer Pieters, etc etc Shawcross was great today.

Ryan was much improved today. The reason I've put Williams in is because he's better on the ball.

I thought Allen did well today and I really think to Rowett he's undroppable. From what I've heard about Woods I can see Rowett going 433 or 4231 with either Woods/Etebo in a 2 and Allen advanced or 433 with Woods lying deep with Allen/Etebo in front of him.
It's a tricky one even more so when Ince comes b
One things for sure things look a hell of a lot brighter tonight.
I think with the addition of Woods and when Clucas and Ince come back we will be one hell of a side at this level.

442
Butland Martina BMI Williams Clucas Bauer Etebo Woods Ince Berahino Afobe
Diouf for Bauer RM possibly.
I like the Berahino Afobe duo at the minute. Hopefully Berahino will get that first goal and they will both be in double figures!

Butland
Martina - BMI - Williams - Clucas
Allen - Woods - Etebo
Ince - McClean
Afobe
But it’s harsh on Berahino and Bojan who could easily be in there.
Good to see that everybody’s team is different, it shows how much strength and depth we have.

Do we actually know if Clucas is any good at left back? Anyone seen him play there?

Butland Martina Shawcross Indi Clucas Woods Etebo Diouf Bojan Ince Afobe Harsh on Saido but I think that is the best team we have. Don’t know if you noticed how Bojan trudged off the pitch at the end of the match ,no acknowledgement to the fans ,no celebration with team mates at full time and going straight up the tunnel .I am thinking he his looking for out again

I hope not because we need him, we actually bought quality players on as subs and it made a great change to the usual shit.

I thought when he came he made a beautiful through ball but gave the ball away too much. He just looks so easy to knock off the ball. I’m not sure he makes it into the first 11 at the mo but is very useful off the bench.

Do we actually know if Clucas is any good at left back? Anyone seen him play there? Can't be any worse than Pieters. Not exactly a ringing endorsement is it? Pieters is absolutely gash, but Rowett has already hinted that Clucas will be the left back cover if needed so we had better hope he is decent there because Pieters needs replacing with the most immediate effect possible.

Butland Shawcross Williams BMI Ince Allen Woods Etebo McClean Berahino Afobe
Bauer for Ince we need more defensive cover.
The 433 killed us the first 2 games - we looked better with more in midfield and I'm not keen on an isolated single striker.

These couple of Etebo performances, and the feelgood story around Saido, have got to be increasing the chances, albeit fractionally, of us going in Allen-less at the weekend?
The chance of the 4-3-3 is always in the background, but after 2 good performances, that would seem odd.
If it's a straight shootout between Woods and Allen, it'll be interesting which way he goes. Probably Allen, but you never know.
And the prospect of us going in without Shawcross on Saturday is also looming.
Seeing those 2 on the bench at the Hawthorns would really be something.

We've been discussing it on the Etebo thread. He can't drop either Etebo or Beharino, so either the number 10 spot goes and he pushes Saido further forward in a 433 or Woods is on the bench but either way Allen starts. OR he pushes Berahino forward and plays Etebo as the number 10 ... yuck! But Allen of course still starts.

I must be one of very few, but I thought last night showed just why Williams will never take Shawcross' place in the team. Ryan is judged against such high standards so when he drops below those, he's unfairly maligned. He remains, even if this is Ryan at his worst, streets ahead of Williams. Williams barely won a challenge all night aerially, certainly in tussles with their no20 who I thought man handled both Williams and Bruno throughout. Ryan won't find himself out of the team any time soon based on the evidence I've seen so far this season.

Although I'm not convinced about Afobe at all but I'll give him a few more games and if not I'd put Bojan in as no.10 and move Berahino up top.

This opinion surprises me, I thought the absolute opposite, that we actually looked like a football team last night where Williams and Martins Indi were capable of passing forward and retaining possession. Everyone I walked out with commented how much better we looked without Shawcross. To be fair to Delpoitre who you referenced, he is absolutely massive and much stronger than 99% of what we will come up against this season. Aside from that though I thought they handled him well and he looked completely ineffective.

To be fair the aimless punting forward from Ryan had largely stopped on Saturday, the reason being that Etebo in particular and Martina as well were looking for the ball from Butland and the centre backs.
