Lambert did get that defence tighter though we just couldn't score Rowett seems to have taken us back to Hughes end of the road era, it's unbelievable really no he didn't. He literally did to be fair. At the complete expense of the other end and he was a disaster, but there was more of a discernible plan and we weren’t the total shambles we’ve become again.

He is out of his depth.
This needs a very experienced manager with a successful Prem background and a huge personality.
He needs to know this league inside out and have a good knowledge of SCFC.
With the right leadership, this squad will win the league this season with ease.

I was at the Leeds game, the home game to Brentford, watched Preston away online, and tonight I eventually managed to get the laptop / stream to work properly after we were 2-0 down. So I missed the apparent positive start and Afobe's ruled out effort. The performance I did get to see tonight was abysmal, but in keeping with a very poor and concerning start to the season overall. I was angry and worried when I saw the team selection tonight, but hoped that Rowett would be proved right. Sadly that was not the case. I understand why people on this messageboard are questioning Rowett's capabilities. The team selections give ammunition to that view. But I think anyone coming into Stoke this season would initially struggle. We have a number of players that are in need of being replaced, there needs to be a full scale rebuilding of key areas of the team and that will take time. Given a shortage in certain areas (e.g. central defence) Rowett's hands are tied to a degree. I also think that given Rowett's previous experience and results in the Championship to suggest he is not up to the job, and should be removed already is way too premature. It might be that we lower expectations for this season and accept it as rebuilding period as part a longer project to produce a team that can get promoted back to the Premiership. For whatever reason there seems to be a lack of confidence which is causing players to rush simple things, miss simple passes, and far too often go backwards so the defenders or Butland have to resort to humping long aimless balls back up the pitch. McClean has been a disappointment, and has become some fans favourite player to lambast, but to a degree he's not been given a huge amount of decent service - stray passes in congested areas, or hopeless punts down the channels to chase. The whole midfield could do with a prolonged period of keeping possession, moving the ball around with short accurate passes, and patiently trying to work some openings rather than the hurried "ridding themselves of a hot potato" approach that is putting us under pressure, and starving the forwards of any decent service. I think we also need to start with Bojan so there is someone with creativity to link up with the striker(s). I used to like Pieters when he first came but he's long been a liability with the silly fouls and poor positional awareness. Although a Stoke hero, Shawcross sadly has had it and a long term replacement is needed, but given Williams dismissal we'll be having to rely on Shawcross a bit longer. I wouldn't have dropped Bauer for Edwards, and Fletcher is another one whose time is up. I think Allen is struggling because of the issues with the other players around him, and is not being utilised correctly. But I'd keep faith with him at the moment for a little longer. I don't know how close Souttar is to meriting a regular first team place, but he's young and 6' 6" so hopefully the sort of player who is part of the rebuilding for the future. Surely he's worth a try given our shaky defence. So the problem doesn't lie entirely with Rowett. And I think given the deep rooted issues it will take a bit of time to turn things around. However I don't think this automatically means he's not up for the job, the like of Moyes mentioned above would equally struggle with the squad we have because several must be shipped out to make some room. Rowett knows the Championship, and he should be able to produce a team that can be vying for promotion. It won't happen over night, and it might take longer than some of us would like. Remember the Macari side that won promotion as champions in 1992/3 with 93 points had just 7 points after the first 7 games. I'm not putting myself out there as some huge Rowett fan, far from it and there is some justifiable criticism. I just don't think we should be calling for his head after 4 games. If I was him for the Hull game I'd replace Pieters with Martina, bring back Bauer for Edwards, replace Fletcher with Etebo, give Souttar a start in the back four, start with Bojan, and get Allen to play the role of sitting in front of the defence to give a bit of protection, break up the opponents' moves, and try to bring into play our other midfielders with simple passes. So to sum up - we are fucked.

We were great for the first 30 mins tonight. They score a goal and our players start to hide (especially the midfield). We need a big win to boost them, or to bomb out half our squad. Rowett's game plan was working until the players threw the ball in their own net 3 times. The idea is to grind a win to build confidence, it was working, but so many of our players are mentally weak. Allen and Fletcher, alongside Ryan and Erik, seem to be the main culprits.

Ince was the only creative outlet in the side save for one good ball from Edwards. We still have no pace and little creativity. Even if we cut out the problems at the back and get some semblance of shape (which was supposedly Rowett’s forte we were told), do you see us having enough about us to put teams to the sword? Where are the goals going to come from?

Said it before the season, he's a mid table manager and Stoke will do nothing with him in charge. Cut your losses now. Moyes is a deluded prat who still thinks he should be in the Champions League. No way he'll go to Stoke. Moyes would come to Stoke 1 million percent. Moyes turned us down didn't he?

Certainly didn't look like losing. My hope is that once we have some confidence (and a midfielder who can pass) we'll start playing with a bit more freedom. Ince, Bojan, Afobe, Saido, will get some goals. Clucas can score, as can Etebo apparently too. This run needs to end very quickly though. if we beat Hull, i won't be too terrified.

Clucas and Etebo aren’t creative midfielders. Bojan isn’t going to start. Who’s going to make the chances?

No but gifting them 3 goals through crap defending again swipes the legs from under us and equates to utter frustration and zero confidence throughout the whole team .......

A new pairing in midfield, of him and Clucas/Etebo, would make a world of difference IMO. Our current two are scared to get on the ball and scared to tackle off it. They are the root of a hell of a lot of our problems for me.

It doesn’t matter what any one of us say, from the way we played at Leeds, against Brentford and Tonight we’ve been dicked in every game. Rowett continues to spout the basics, well pick a side who can do it! Or are they not wanting to play for you or do they just not respect you...
We’ve been bad for best part of 2 years, but this is the pits.... we are the laughing stock in the championship.
We’ve lost 3-0 at Home to Wigan.....
I am very concerned about where we are going and it’s looking like league 1, we all knew after 5/6 games last season we were destined for the drop.... this is diabolical.

It may well be the same as tonight, with Etebo for Fletcher, Cuco for Erik, and Souttar in for Williams, but who knows.

What a load of stupid crap!
I was reading before the season, so many 'what a perfect choice' 'he's the one for me'
He hasn't done a thing in management is was always going to be crap!
Now someone wants Moyes! Another wants Pearce! All bloody rubbish.
We can't have him now, but Tony Pulis was the only one with the commitment, the strength, to even fight with the players if necessary, the passion to win. The only person with a sense of pride for the club. He would have kept us bobbing round the 8th to 14th spot for years and years. Now, like I predicted we are on way back to League One!!!

Oh yeah bobbing round there, he never got above 11th and in his last season we were lucky not to be relegated. We had Shotton on the right wing and were playing N'Zonzi in the fucking Whitehead role. Bore the fuck off. Mark Hughes, as much as i despise the prick, showed exactly what could be done with our team when someone who isn't as limited as Pulis takes over. Didn't TP do a bloody good job at West Brom too. absolutely flying they are. Best be a bloody joke post.

Well you can just imagine the scene in the boardroom after we got well and totally stuffed and relegated.
Well who should we get to get us out of this mess? "Oh I know" pipes up old Coates - "I know a fella at Derby - he'll do a magnificent job. Shouldn't cost too much either".
"Sounds like a plan Dad", pipes up Coates Jnr.

Clearly this is the case. Hopefully the 'football' people at the club will realise this, swallow their pride and fuck him and his half witted, no nothing, won nothing coaches off. Moyes has to come in. There are no football people at the club. And you're also clearly not a football person if you think employing a dinosaur like Moyes is the answer.

Recruitment is the root cause of our demise. Successive managers have failed over the past 2 years. Why? Because the players either aren't good enough or have a shit attitude or both.

Agree with those who say, most would have struggled. This is more than just assembling 11 blokes.
God, Rowett's making it difficult to forgive, with some poor decisions, but any manager would have to deal with -
Managing hugely unrealistic and entrenched expectations of the owner and CEO Transfer process too slow or ineffectual at getting players in for pre-season. Complicated stipulations added to distract from this core job (like to rehabilitate SB.... which is showing signs of life?... but can't be easy), Rock bottom confidence and morale with everyone Several players who don't want to be here can't be shifted and will be adding to the unrest. Players still not clear if they are in the team or squad because we've allowed transfers to go on into final throws of the window
