I'd wager that it won't be by the time the loan window shuts and even more so after Rowetts second transfer window in January is over. Obviously hope you are correct Vincent.. But January may be too late matey. Long season ahead but I'm confident that Rowett will have us picking up the points required sooner rather than later, once he's knocked the hangover out of the players who were here last season and they've got used to their new surroundings we will be sound. You can be as low as mid table in this league around the turn of the year and still put together a promotion charge, a bit of patience is required because Rowett will mould us into a very competitive side in this league but it might not just happen overnight.

We need another striker to back up/replace the new man, because he's not very good and the ones Rowett inherited are no good at all. We didn't sign a centerhalf to build our future upon, but loaned an old man whose legs and mind is already gone. We signed two nominal wingers but they don't play wide and they don't deliver crosses. We signed a world cup playing midfielder who is unaccustomed to playing in the championship and another who is unfit. We resigned and kept hold of players who are unable to understand their holiday is over. What was I expecting? Players that look like they will get us promoted. We've played one game you massive drama queen. Afobe is a proven goalscorer at this level. Williams' mind has gone? Ah orate, think I'll wait to see him play myself to see if his legs have gone but don't just make shit up. We've signed two wide men also proven at this level and Ince's assist statistics prove you're talking absolute bollocks. You're moaning about the players we've signed who are accustomed to this league and you're also moaning about signing a player who isn't accustomed to this league, so make your mind up. Clucas would have undergone a medical and all the talk is that he should be ready for first team action in about a months time and our manager sees him as a midfielder and also cover for our left back. Agree with some of your sentiments Vincent.. Picking up about Afobe... He's got to be scoring 15 goals this season. And another couple of players on ten plus. To be in the final shakeup you've got to be in the region of 65-70 goals. You've mentioned further players in the loan window. At least one has got to be a goalscorer.

As for Williams I'm looking at what he did, or rather didn't do, for Everton last season. Poor performances and red cards! But you should sign on as Scholes second in command... Don't you think that basing your very strong and negative opinion on one game is a bit over the top though? At least if you waited a couple of months and we were stranded at the bottom of the league then it would hold some weight, at the moment it just comes across as a massive over reaction in my opinion.

One thing that concearns me is The obscene amount of money being spent this window in the Prem Lge. Not only by established clubs but also the likes of Fulham and Wolves. How difficult will it be for next years promoted clubs to survive ?
If all goes well, and that is not taken for granted, it is only the first steps of a long journey. The last two seasons squad building have done more damage than we may realise. We have fallen from the peak and have a long climb back.
So I am not whinging and am positive about our activity but let’s be sure that it’s not going to be easy.

Coates could afford all of that How many times does it have to be pointed out. Peter Coates is not "that" wealthy, and his liquid assets would be a fraction of that.

I understand the disappoint in some because the squad looks unbalanced and more of a collection of players than a team
Both of these things will take time but after two seasons of drivel you can see why some are impatient

Tony Scholes has absolutely no say on who we sign, can we get that clear?! I still find it astounding how his name gets lumped in with Carto and the different managers we've had when it comes to the playing staff. It's up to Scholes to agree the deals for the players once they have been identified by the manager/scouting network. Do you seriously think it's up to him to say "erm, are you sure we should be signing him? I think he's a bit shit"... no one would bloody listen even if he did say that. Now, if you don't like the way he negotiates, take the last minute debacle with Clucas for an example, fair enough. I'm also not a fan of the long 5 year contracts we were dishing out for fun either and that IS on Tony's watch. I just think we need to get it right in terms of who we're directing criticism at and for what. In simple terms, Tony works in a financial structure mapped out by the owners so if you aren't satisfied with the amount of money we're spending and perceived "penny pinching" antics then that's on Coates' watch surely?! Anyway, I'm sure I'll get a load of abuse for going against the grain here so I can't wait Great post that. Tony Scholes serves as Chief Executive Office and Director. He should act as the main point of communication between the board of directors and corporate operations. So it is his role to take major investment proposals identified by the 'football experts' in our case the Manager/Technical Director (corporate operations in our world) to the Board of Directors for approval but not to identify which players. If we made lawn mowers rather than ran a football club and we needed a new piece of machinery for the production line the Director of Production Engineering would, after doing due diligence, identify what piece of equipment he/she wanted and if the investment was sufficiently large the Chief Executive would take it to the Board for approval or otherwise. But crucially he would not identify exactly what piece of equipment was needed that would be up to the production experts. I agree with you on 5 year contracts, my guess is the club is not as easy to sell to top players as we would all fondly believe it is which is why they came about. You might say Imbula and Wimmer were not top players but our football experts believed they were. No but if the lawnmowers never or rarely worked the CEO should fire the Director of Production for not doing his job properly and if he doesn't he should be held accountable

think my biggest concern is that we have paid a lot of money for what i would describe as championship players dont see any of them cutting it above this level. most have tried and not exactly set the world alight. if we remain i this division then thats ok but if we are to challenge and do go up we have a lot of players to move on.

So I wouldn't be quite so confident, nor am I convinced that having failed to some degree to bring in adequate players during a transfer window (that even he was dissatisfied with), he should now be able to pick at ease goalscorers on loan arrangements.

Don't get our defence. Whether you think the 1st five are good enough or not you have to have some viable backup/competition in those positions.
In my opinion our defence is way short of being competitive enough at this level, or at least the top half of the championship, and we don't have a solitary player for backup or any competition for places whatsoever - totally bizarre

The first thing Rowett said after the Leeds game was that the game showed Stoke needed to buy more players. In other words he wasn't happy with what the transfer window had brought him up until that point, and, having insisted on further purchases in the plural, he got himself only one, so he can't be happy with what happened in the final week either. So no lying on my part! However you really ought to issue an apology for your wild accusations against me...not just once, but twice!

Are you confident this squad will get us back into the PL ? and if so why ?

Are you confident this squad will get us back into the PL ? and if so why ? I'm confident that given time, and that's the important bit, Gary Rowett will build a squad that will have us fighting for promotion yes. Whether that's this season or next season remains to be seen but he's had 3/4 of a transfer window so far and one league game to stamp his mark on this ridiculously unbalanced squad That everyone keeps talking about, so surely a bit of patience is required, is it not? I understand everyone's frustrations with how things have panned out behind the scenes over the last few seasons and you might remember that I've been as vocal as most about how things have been run lately, (well not quite as vocal as some ) but I'm willing to look at this window objectively and we've gone someway to addressing some of our issues as a team and like our manager I think it's been a decent window so far. Work to be done? Yes there is but I never expected all of our playing staff issues to be resolved in one transfer window, and I think people who did expect this are at best being daft and at worst fucking mental

Those are your words, and you use them liberally. I don't understand what you're saying then. You're basically saying that you think he believes we've had a shit window but is telling us we've had a strong one, but you're then saying that he's not lying? That doesn't make sense. Also your notion that we can't have had a strong window if we still need to bring some players in is wide of the mark as well. We all know how much work needs to be done on our squad and it was always going to take more than one transfer window to put it all right.
