You're not allowed to say that on here. All he does is "run about" Showed more desire in 90 minutes than any bastard who pulled a shirt on for us in the last 18 months - but.... He massively fucked up the things a footballer, especially a winger should be doing. I'm glad you've got your scapegoat sorted so early Bayern. Jacks down the other end throwing them in the fucking net - but McClean? McClean?! - terrible.

It's the creaming over hard work when he messed up the things he actually should be doing that I can't stand and the double standards. Imagine if Diouf had made that pass for instance. It was just awful football. He worked his knackers off and fair play to him for that but by Christ when we needed him to actually football he failed. You mean the Butland I've been slating for the past year? You mean the Butland I've said I was looking forward to us selling? Don't give me that shit!

He was the best by default of his work rate. With the ball at his feet he was shocking, but so were the rest. At least he had a go. Christ I need a drink. ‘Desire and commitment’ should simply be the prerequisites for being a professional footballer, so it’s a really poor reflection on everyone else when we’re singling out someone and lauding them for it. He created little, wasted our best move in the first half, and had a 57% pass success rate. The whole team needs to do better, McClean included.

Aahh, Stokies love a grafter - doesnt matter if you play like you lost all your toes in an industrial accident as long as you work aaaard! Is it just me who thought he could have tried harder to head that corner they scored from as well? What was the point of him being there if he isn't clearing them? He was there to stop the ball reaching the near post run and he simply stood still and watched the ball go past him. Good athlete. Good attitude. Poor footballer, who at 29 is unlikely to improve.

He worked hard and looks like he’ll be up for the fight but he needs to do a lot better when he’s got the ball at his feet. That being said he needs better service as well, he rightly chastised Etebo when he rolled a ball towards him with no real zip to it.
Ince looked the only player yesterday who is creative and can open up the game.

I think the concerns about what he'll be able to create are wholly justified. That mis-pass to Afobe was just shocking.

I know you're going to take anyone to task who has anything good to say about McClean because you hate him.

I remember when I was a kid playing junior football and at the end of seasons awards I won 'Most Committed Player'.
I cried my eyes out and my parents and the other players tried to reassure me that this was noble, that I worked tirelessly on the pitch and I would love to tackle people aggressively even if it was really cold on a Sunday morning.
However, their words didn't comfort me. This award confirmed what I already knew. I was still shit at football.

He simply wasn't good enough like 9 of his team mates as I keep emphasising.

McClean was easily our best player yesterday and given that he messed up a glorious chance and other than that didn't create any real threat shows how poor the rest were. He did show energy, desire and some fight he also did track back which was lacking across the rest of the midfield/wide players, that by itself is not going to win us many games but yesterday you saw the result of that being missing for most of the team.

You're obsessed with him, it wasn't his fault you could have just left it there. It was good defending, all of our defenders would have been sucked in there, and he didn't. He probably should have shot, but when you've got a "20 goal a season striker" you can see why he might square it. Either way you look at it - his hard work made that chance from fuck all - if we get more of them this season, we'll score more than we'll miss.

The pass wasn't on, why should he square it when the pass isn't on and the goal was gaping? It did and it summed him up nicely. Hard work, fuck all quality. I've never liked players like irrespective of anything.

Ince was a shocking disgrace. Just walking around, so lazy.
McClean was acting the big man, who wanted to fight anyone who looks at him funny & is basically a crap blob.
Also I noticed no one was slightest bit interested in Shawcross as captain. He's controlling nothing.
Crouch is always worth a run out, but age is against him. He'd love a transfer back to Prem.
Butland is same boat, his minds not on it & must be desperate to go anywhere back in Prem.
I can't think of anyone that played well really.

Thought he worked his socks off, particularly off the ball but lacked quality, and wasted our best opening of first half with a 1 poor decision to square it and 2 poor execution of said squaring.
Ince looked dangerous on the few occasions he had the opportunity to run at people, Afobe was isolated (no fault of his own) but took his goal well and Bauer put a shift in, but was not offered much in the way of protection or support from those ahead of him.
I think there are 3 main problems from yesterday. The first is that we look far too lightweight through the middle - the fact is the championship is a physical league where every game is a battle and smaller guys, like Joe and Etebo are going to be bullied week in week out.
This leads to the second problem with the midfield, which was the lack of desire to compete. The amount of times we sat off Leeds and gave them the time to play their game, particularly first half was embarrasing and was directly responsible for both the first goal and the shot for the second.
This leads on to the final big problem yesterday - Attitude/Desire. It seemed to me that certain players thought that they were too good to get stuck in yesterday (Badou being the best example) and thought that we would walk it because of either the hype or the supposed 'quality' that we have.
I'm hoping that yesterday turns out to be a massive wake up call for all those involved at the club, but, seeing how many times we have been found out in the last 18 months or so without any real reaction or attempt to rectify shortcomings properly (ie. Trying to tape over the cracks with cheap signings or statements of intent without following through with actions that justify), I can't say I'm banking on it...

Not a lot of people will take notice of this but I'll say it anyway.
Yesterday was the first time in a long time I watched a Championship match live and on reflection a few things struck me:
1. I now understand why Rowett was so keen to bring in McClean. He is the epitome of what the Championship is about. It's rough, tough, fast and all about getting stuck in, and less about the beautiful skill of the game. We lost because basically, Leeds had 11 James McCleans on the pitch who were short on ability but prepared to battle it out to win.
2. Stoke looked out of their depth at times. Yes the skills are there with some, Ince for example showed he has the skills, but he also looked at times as though he was thinking I ought to be in a Premier League side, not slumming it here. That probably applies to others in the team. Rowett said in his interview after the match that some players want to leave. If that is the case we need to get rid asap as a player is no use in the Championship if he is "not up for it" no matter how skillful he is.
3. I now understand better a Middlesbrough fan of many years, who says he much more enjoys going to matches in the Championship, than watching his team suffer and endure in the Prem in many matches they have no chance of winning.
Yesterday was very much a "Welcome to the Championship Stoke City"
