I disagree 100% with what you say about Bangoura. "Never going to be good enough" Really? Apart from Peter Thorne, he was as talented a striker as we had at in our days at the Brit until Fuller arrived. You don't remember any "particularly bad behaviour by him" Really? Give him a game abroad with his national team and you were lucky if he came back within 7 days of the due date. And once we had sussed out and acted to curb his disciplinary problems he lost interest in playing football and went from being a goal machine to being a Berahino clone. He annoyed me more than any player of the past 20 years. A huge and obvious talent (at his previous club and in his early days with us) but once he had a few quid in the bank he just couldn't be arsed to put that talent to any sort of good use on a regular basis. I must admit i took very little interest in Stoke in those days and seldom went because I spent most of my time outside the area. So we have now established another Berahino since WW2 just one! I think that this is significant and ensures his status as a class A super waster alongside the notorious Bangoura. I must admit, Bangoura did cement his position in the Stoke City annals of fame with his unforgetable arse goal in the play-offs. you've had a mare there mate

If you took very little interest in Stoke in those days - how come you felt competent to offer the opinion that he was "never going to be good enough"? The evidence before we signed him was that he was a goal machine at his previous club. As has been pointed out above, he scored 8 in his first 10 games for us - before it all went tits up. But somehow, you managed to form the opinion that he was never going to be good enough. You must have amazing powers of obeservation and prediction then. Whilst he always seemed like he was going to be a "difficult player to manage", you appear to be the only person who decided he was never going to be good enough. Well done. Incidentally Bangoura never scored with his arse in the playoffs. As rock the city says - that was Oulare. I did tell you that I took very little interest in Stoke in those days, so I can post nonsense at times. From observing this board over the years, I have plenty of company including you. But all this started from a comment about breach of contract. My opinion on this has not changed.

Hopefully all the deadwood wages have took a % hit on relegation and now their wages are more affordable for other clubs. Hopefully each deadwood player will want to move on to try play more regular knowing that they could get similar wages elsewhere and not sit on a bumper premier league wage.
But this is Stoke and player wages been cut on relegation clause is probably been missed on most contracts.

Out of interest Magwitch, why do you think, if things were as clear cut as you're suggesting, that the club haven't simply rid themselves of Berahino? When you have a situation like Stoke at present, most of the answers can be worked out from a consideration of the financial implications of the various options open to them. It seems they still believe Berahino might come good, and GR has probably supported this view. To pay him off wpould be very expensive and there would be no prospect of any return. To sack him without legal backing would be damaging for the club and they would leave themselves open to legal action by Berahino's lawyer. Breach of contract is the most obvious way I can think of whereby the Club can gain the upper hand and justify sacking him. On the other hand, doing nothing except trying to motivate him again and improving his fitness has the prospect of a rich financial return if it works.... in my opinion very doubtful, but who knows? Coates is gambling I guess.

Has anyone on here ever actually read a professional footballers contract of employment to their club?
No - thought not.

Has anyone on here ever actually read a professional footballers contract of employment to their club? No - thought not. What personal knowledge leads you to 'think not'? Because if any of the "debate" about what can and can't be done regarding the employment status of players contracted to the club was informed by any first hand working knowledge of Premier League footballers contracts then I'm sure the contributor would be keen to give greater weight to their argument by identifying as such. That I have seen nothing of the sort leads me to "think not" and as such I consider much of the discussion to be little more than uninformed nonsense. However if there is someone out there with just such an inside track then I'd be interested to hear/read their views.

Exactly right, without reading the particular contract it is impossible to have an informed discussion therefore if not qualified it does tend to be nonsense. It should be merely an exchange of ideas, but can easily turn into a heated exchange on a Board such as this.

I honestly don’t think we have as much dead wood as people are making out, Choupo will leave on loan same with Imbula, Adam will probably go Rangers on a free, fletcher will provide decent cover, and as for Berahino maybe just maybe he will become good, we can get rid of lost the bad eggs tomoorow or at least because the global window shuts

As it stand we still have all those you mention, fletcher is a big part of the dead wood imo. + Wimmer, we still have Wimmer. It's a shame we don't know the details of these loans, I suppose if say Hannover 96 are paying all of his wages then it's not so bad, all we have wasted is his £18m signing on fee, but it may well be that we are still hemorrhaging money on him on a monthly basis by making up the short fall on his wages.

I like to pretend the whole Wimmer thing happened in a dream. Similar to that Palacios one I had a few years ago. Then someone on here mentions them and I convince myself The Matrix is real. How long has all this dreck got left on their contracts?

How long has all this dreck got left on their contracts? Daren't look but we went '5 and a half year contract' crazy around the time of his signing! I guess that is what parachute payments are all about, rather than giving relegated teams a leg up as some people seem to think. More like keeping them out of liquidation. Football is a crazy world.

No, what we actually have is just a whole boat load of wank players who are sadly still useful to us because unfortunately we have to name a match day squad.

Diouf isn't great but he at least gets into areas to miss sitters. Berahino doesn't even do that.
