My next door neighbor who is a footy coach, just introduced me to one of his friends Dave Regis as he knows i'm a Stoke City Supporter down here in Sunny Datchet, Windsor.
To be honest i cannot remember him playing, but know the name, seems a nice chap, he is down here for a few days, but says he lives in Alsager & he goes to a few Stoke games when he gets the chance. he thinks we have a good chance of coming straight back up.
Was he any good for us?

And yes, brother of the Baggies player Regis, recently deceased.

How old are you? Dave Regis was ok in my eyes. An earlier version of Sidibe.

If my memory serves me right, he outshone Stan Collymore on his debut for Forest after they paid around £2 million for him.

Scored a screamer which I was right behind in the old Boothen... against Watford maybe? Didn't do that very often but was always a rate handful and won the balls for Steino to get onto.

I was hoping you "couldn't be arsed" to talk to him.

He used to come out of the tunnel with a tub of vaseline across his eyebrows.
Put it this way, VT would have been tantric for a whole season if he'd have had the chance to sign him.

Limited footballer but strong as an ox and very quick. Scored some good goals, ably assisted by Steino who had a knack of getting the most of his strike partner.
I liked him. He'd kick the ball past the centre back, who knowing that Regis would beat him in a race, would block his path. Regis would basically just run through the centre back sending him flying. He was fun to watch.

Wasn't it Big Dave's goal bound shot that was saved by the patch of mud at Vale Park?

Decent at Championship level.
His feet and his brain weren't always that well connected, but he had a good shot on him and was strong and quick. He left as part of the deal to bring in Peschisolido, but I remember being a bit upset that we let him go.

'limited' doesn't really cover it. Stein was the most proactive striker I've seen at Stoke,Regis was the opposite. It always seemed a surprise to him when the ball turned up in his vicinity.
However he was game and could larrup it home often enough.
Seen worse strikers.

Saw him 2 or 3 months ago on the retail park up Tunstall. Wondered if he still lived in the area. Got into a Hyundai Tucson if i remember correctly.🤔

Does anyone remember his comedy diving header at Mansfield? It ended up flying in the opposite direction to goal. Not entirely sure how you can do that. The signing of Dave Regis and foghorn Gleghorn was the catalyst to get our championship season going. For that I’ll always be grateful.

I agree steino found his own space but the chaos always made a bit more it’s always the same if a big mans making a run defenders shit it and go with him

Played alongside Steino but in my opinion was never as good as Bertie
Scored a few but never prolific. I will always remember him for kicking the ball that got stuck in the mud at Vale Park. Me and my mates were having a mental celebrating when to our disbelief the ball stopped in a pool and was cleared. We went onto lose and took out our frustrations on the back of the stand ( when I say we I mean Stoke fans, not me and my mates!!!!)
I too remember the screamer Vs Watford and I also remember in the oatcake smudge saying he bumped into Regis up Hanley and Regis was eating a king size mars bar
Why I recall this garbage I don't know

If you class a player that can consistently step on a ball and fall over good - then he was very good.

The best pairing the club has had in the last 40 years. Only Sheron and Sturridge came close.
