What an absolute shock that is (said no-one ever).
There must be a fair few fat manilla envelopes knocking around at the Civic Centre for Realis to be allowed fleece the taxpayers so readily.
Will this company be refunding the public purse with all the cash they've squandered on this venture when 'parts of the site are sold off piecemeal'?
Stoke on Trent City Council, paragons of due diligence and forward planning.

There will never be a Hanley regeneration. Never. It's been spoken about for 30 years. Worst city centre in the UK.

This is heartbreaking to hear. I was up there around Christmas & what pissed me of was the double yellows everywhere. No city centre parking after 6pm, that's a £@?#&!n joke. Even Bath has single yellows. Killing the night time economy

We don't really need a new cinema and an M&S would leave a gaping hole down Parliament Row, but they need to do something down there because as the 'gateway' to the city it's an absolute eyesore. Ideally I'd like to see some bars/craft beer places because a night out in Hanley is just not a going concern right now. Admittedly Picadilly isn't too bad in the day with the designer shops, theatre and bars with outside seating but there's not enough there for a night out and Trinity Street can get fucked as far as I'm concerned.

Speaking of Hanley, what was the name of the pub that used to be just up from the new bus station, opposite side to The Albion? It was a wine bar called Chaplins for a bit, but before I think it was a rockers' pub.

Umpteen years of Labour Council mismanagement and incompetence have caused the City to fall into poverty, the place is basically a shit hole they put all their eggs into one basket (Hanley) them dropped the fucking lot, why would anyone who didn't have to visit Stoke-on-Trent ?. I had the misfortune to be based in Hanley for four years in my last job I hated every minute of that time and will never return of my own free will.

Realis really are as dodgy as they come. They get a fuck load of tax-payer's cash spunked all over them by their mates in the council, then they decide to not go ahead with the project and just pocket the cash and run. Speaking of Hanley, what was the name of the pub that used to be just up from the new bus station, opposite side to The Albion? It was a wine bar called Chaplins for a bit, but before I think it was a rockers' pub. We used to live in that place. You used to go straight in the door and up a narrow flight of stairs to the large room upstairs. Fucked if I can remember the name though, I want to say Hudsons or something like that.

I think it was the pre-club place for Chico's, when there was something for everyone in Hanley.

What a surprise... There simply isnt enough people living in or around hanley to support two shopping complex's.
It will 100% be bulldozed and turned into a carpark.
People suggesting an arena are forgetting the two theaters we already struggle to fill.

I worked the High Street for years and I find it depressing that its literally decaying. There must be something that can be done to re generate in some way? Are there any ideas out there to try and boost the economy in and around high streets.

Are there any ideas out there to try and boost the economy in and around high streets. Sadly out of town retail parks are killing high streets. You can effectively buy everything from 3 or 4 mainstream names and a supermarket on a retail park. Couple that with ridiculous rates for high street shops and add internet shopping and hey presto, no more high street. I look at the precinct in Longton and remember when it was a vibrant place, now it's just predominantly boarded up empty shops. Hard to see how it can be reversed.

Add in the parking situation and it’s not hard to see why Hanley is dying on its arse.maybe if they flatten the old bus station and build quality apartments then people may want to live and work there..?

It's an ugly shithole. People will never be going to Hanley to enjoy the ambience of the place. In that respect it has absolutely nothing to offer so you may as well go to a retail park.

The thing is a shop or pub or something gets closed down and is allowed to remain vacant and derelict. It looks vile and makes it a really unpleasant place to be.
One thing I will say though is I've never felt unsafe in Hanley. It doesn't feel dangerous. Mind you I rarely went to the old bus station after dark.
