Does any other sport have this ridiculous fixture?
Is there a 3rd/4th place Wimbledon game?

Does any other sport have this ridiculous fixture? Is there a 3rd/4th place Wimbledon game? Not sure about other sports but I'm certain the FA Cup had them in the 70s and we "won" it in 1971? Either way, it's a cruel game really. I personally hope both sides play 8 up front and it finishes 10-9. Edit: Just checked, we beat Everton 3-2 in 1971 in front of a bumper 5k crowd at Selhurst!

We've already seen England reserves vs Belgium reserves once so do we really need to see it again? Pointless.

Blimey you learn something new everyday! I had never even remotely heard of these matches, there was only ever five and we were in two of them. www.theguardian.com/football/2016/sep/28/fa-cup-third-place-play-off-penalty-shootout-knowledge

I presume if it had been a play off between Palace and Charlton instead they'd have played it at our place!

That 1990 game also featured the worst offside call I’ve ever seen in any football ever. Can’t be bothered to find it now on my phone but it’s not an exaggeration to say the guy was 5 metres onside I’ve never seen it, but couldn’t be worse than the programme seller playing Charlie George onside in our FA cup semi final replay Haha fair point! I wasn't around for that one though..

The betting for first goalscorer is ridiculously tight
Harry Kane ...4/1 Lingard ....8/ 1
Even Jordan Pickford is only ...16/ 1
f*ck it !! .... I am having a pound on Raheem Sterling ... 666/ 1

It might be the same players who played against each other in the group stage.

The only 3/4th place game I can remember is the one England played against Italy in 1990. Shilton played his last International game and dropped a clanger for their first, Platt scored with a fantastic header for the equaliser and they won it towards the end with a penalty (I think)?

Southgate should play all the players who haven’t had any game time so far so they can all say they played in a World Cup as a reward for their support

A strange co-incidence that England and Belgium will have played two games of little consequence at the same World Cup.

A win would represent our best ever performance on foreign soil, not exactly an accolade that will be frequently remembered for years to come but it's something these lads are deserving of for their effort and commitment.
I agree with others though, this game achieves nothing but prolonged misery for everyone involved who want to be back home with their families and doesn't need to take place.

Do you think Gareth will play the same starting X1 against Belguim, or play the guys who haven"t had a game yet ?

England reserves vs Belgium reserves take 2.
However, I think Butland will play this time and I wouldn't be surprised if Kane and Lukaku play just for the golden boot.

Butland to get 60 minutes and Pope 30.

Butland to get 60 minutes and Pope 30. Pickford is reported as desperate to get the nod. He wants the golden glove and get in FIFA's team of the tournament. So that's one in the eye for those who say the game is irrelevant.

Play the lads that haven't played plus Harrry (K) to get ano two penalties to make sure of the golden boot.
Simple.

I don't think Pickford deserves goalkeeper of the tournament. He's responsible for some terrible distribution (including the Sweden match when he made some good saves), and his punches to the middle up until the Colombia match were worrying. He does seem to have grown into the role though, which is unfortunate for Butland.
I think Trippier will be out injured. I'd like to see Butland in goal. Keep the same back three (the more they play together, the better). Keep Kane and Sterling (he deserves a goal) in for 60 minutes.
