I'll think of Big John every time I see his name on the team sheet! If he's half as good he'll do.☺

Wow.
Big bananas that given his age.
All depends what we can recoup from outgoing sales and whether the Family Coates are prepared to provide the float while we sell and / or the subsidy if we don't get what we're expecting.
Means to an end though. And we need someone in for Shaq. asap.

The transfer business has been positive so far and Etebo's world cup form has made it look even better but this would take it up a level again. Get this done and would prove that we are not fucking about. Knighthood for Scholes awaits. Stoke legend! He's not involved in transfers, he and his acolytes told us again the other day. I'm guessing that may change if this batch work out though!

If we had sold Shaq for £35m and were spending £15m on Matt Ritchie there would be complaints we were replacing him on the cheap, because we got Shaq so cheap and appear to have to sell him cheaply too, Ritchie is too expensive go figure.
£10-12m is the going rate for average championship attacking players McCormack, Kodja, Rhodes etc Ritchie is above their level so £15m is about right in the current market

Offer Shaq and say 8M for Ritchie and Gayle If they’re after £15m for Ritchie and around £12m for Gayle, how would that work - unless the Shaq relegation clause is £7m more than what we’ve been given to believe?

Never understood why fans question the fee.
It's not my money. I don't give a shit.
He's a good player, get him in.

Never understood why fans question the fee. It's not my money. I don't give a shit. He's a good player, get him in. But it is our club, in spirit if not in legal terms. There isn’t an infinite amount of money, particularly with FFP rules, so if we waste the money we can’t just spend it again. It’s gone.

Finally someone with an ounce of sense Pirate! We have no say in the fee we receive for Shaq. This was determined as part of the deal that bought him to the club and I suspect that without this clause in his contract he would never have joined us. What we have to pay for the person that takes his place in the team bears absolutely no relevance to this fee. The negative attitude on here drives me mad. Every chance that some people get to moan and groan about the management, owners and transfer policy. For God sake be positive, the club will only ever move forward with the backing of the fans!

Get promoted, money back! I don't remember people being that free and easy about us spending millions in the Premier League. He probably would be a good signing as he's a good player but if we end up having to spend £10 Million plus on most of our targets and we don't go up then it won't be good. I know these are the going rates but we need to make sure we're buying smart as well as trying to get back up at the first attempt. I'm not saying I want a shitload of free transfers and no ambition but, again, this is more than we spent on Shaqiri. This is what we should have spent on last preseason imo, think we'll go up in 2 seasons myself. Shaqiri gone we'll pay about £3m more, but for me, he'll be better value over whole season than Shaqiri.

"He's too old." "He's too expensive"
He's 28. It's not your money. And he's a bloody good player.
It's the going rate and he's got a good few years left in him yet.
"Stoke close to signing Messi." ... ... ... "He's not tall enough for this league." "He's unproven in England." "He's not a bad player, but fuck me he's 31...."

In his last 2 seasons in the Championship he scored or assisted 51 goals in 88 appearances. From right wing. That'll do for me!!

Noooooo the fee is far too much. Bobby Reid just gone from Bristol City to Cardiff for reported 10m. The 25-year-old scored 19 goals in 46 league games last term and also attracted interest from West Bromwich Albion and Derby County.

Scored 16 and assisted 10 the year Newcastle went up. He also hit double figures in Bournemouth’s promotion season. He’s going on 29 in September but he’d be an excellent addition for any Championship side That's more goals than Shaqiri scored in his entire time here, and only five fewer assists. It is at a lower level, but I doubt that Shaqiri would make that kind of a contribution in a single Championship season anyway.

Shaq's stats 32 goals and assists for both club and country combined in his last 87 appearances.
Even allowing for the higher standard of football that we and Shaq have played at, he has still been one of our main attacking threats. So to replace him with someone who has done it before at this level with even better stats surely is a good thing!

Johnny Come Lately on the post but if the club are willing to put 15 million on Ritchie then that is ambition for me. Sure he is 29, but if we get three good years from him, which includes promotion and consolidation it's worth every cent.
Personally, I rate him highly.

£15M must be way too much for this player! Yes, he is a good player at this level, but honestly I think £7-8M for him is good business by Ncastle! If they get £15M they'll be laughing all the way to the bank! I would really love our players who aren't good enough for the starting 11 to be sold for £10-15M!!!

29?! again, I thought he was younger than that. He's a decent player but for that money?.. he'd do the job though, tricky one. Living in Newcastle will probably mean he'll stay up there anyway, if he can take playing in a TP team. He's previously moved from Bournemouth to Newcastle so doesn't seem like big distances bother him.
