Housemate is a Sunderland fan and McNair is the only player in their entire squad he rates

He’s undoubtedly the most talented player that Sunderland have - and, according to Connor Bromley, the new owners need to ensure that Paddy McNair goes absolutely nowhere this summer if we are going to immediately return back to the Championship at the first time of asking.
I could sit here all day and tell you about how much I rate Paddy McNair. He has it all - power, strength, goal-scoring, tackling, versatility and pure footballing ability.

He is better than most people realise. So most people are wrong and you are right....OK I’ll go with the opinions of managers who have managed him and supporters of teams he’s played for.

STOKE CITY are ready to go head-to-head with Middlesbrough and Wolves for the signature of Sunderland’s Paddy McNair.
The Potters’ manager Gary Rowett has indicated to the board at the Bet 365 Stadium that he wants McNair to help spearhead the promotion charge.
Now Sunderland are fully expecting an offer to match Middlesbrough’s £5m-plus bid with add-ons, having accepted the terms from the Teessiders earlier this week.

Stealing one from under TP's nose would be nice, I'll admit. We did that last year... Wimmer.

I'm glad that we're still shopping in the 'Get one over Pulis' market after it worked out so well with Berahino etc.

He's a player I've never really seen before. I know Moyes signed him.
What position is he a natural?
I know Sunderland have played him as a right back, centre half and midfield...

He sounds like an anti-climax. Based on this, he doesn't. Seems to have been one main cruciate injury that kept him out, but looked really good on his return

Always thought he was a centre back? Played in both positions H Ah right. Thought so, only going off his Man Utd days though because not seen anything of him since.

I'm inclined to think that this spells more of a departure to Charlie than Geoff...

I'm inclined to think that this spells more of a departure to Charlie than Geoff... Why? The range of positions he has played in (right back, centre back and defensive mid) equates almost exactly to the positions Geoff has played in rather than where Charlie plays.

Started off as a midfielder and converted into a centre back but bit of a utility man. Kind of a Phil Neville type I guess. I think for the price he’d be a good signing for what it’s worth.

I'm inclined to think that this spells more of a departure to Charlie than Geoff... Sounds like a Geoff Cameron kind of utility player. But younger and better. If it does mean Chunkie Autism leaves though then I am all for it.

Sounds like he would be a very good addition and 5m sounds a fair price. Plenty of competition for him though.

The range of positions he has played in (right back, centre back and defensive mid) equates almost exactly to the positions Geoff has played in rather than where Charlie plays. Charlie has said a couple of times about wanting game time but being patient. Can't imagine he'd be sitting around being what would probably be at best 4th choice. On the assumption Allen, Etebo and McNair being ahead of him. It's one thing being a backup in the Prem, can't imagine him wanting that in the Championship. I'd also assume his wages are somewhat higher than Cameron's and being less versatile. I suppose we could see both of them going, but if it's one of them based on him coming, I'd expect to wave goodbye to Charlie...

At 6’2 we could do with that sort of presence and height in the middle of the park. And his positional sense and footballing brain should be sound having come through the ranks at Man Utd.
I must say, the more I think about this one the keener I am on it. I’ve got a nagging doubt about Allen and Etobe as a pairing but if we were to through McNair into the mix it would be looking very promising indeed. And at 5m it sounds like an absolute no brainier. Going to be disappointed if we don’t go for this one now!

I'd be more than happy with this. Doesn't break the bank and we'd have a young, versatile player who has experience (albeit limited) of both top flight football and the Championship. Even bagged a couple of goals for a side that was in free fall. Highly praised by previous coaching staff and managers. All round solid Championship signing and will hopefully be a great addition to the squad if it happens.
