I'm boring myself here. Premier league price - championship player 4m absolute tops. 10m for chester makes Wimmer for 18m look a canny punt. Better out there, younger for fewer £££ You are right! (I guess 4m feels a tad harsh, but certainly get your sentiment!) Any of these appeal Aden Flint Grant Hanley Tom Lees Pontus Jansson Daniel Ayala Nathan Baker Ciaran Clark

Hardly got age on his side though. In 2-3 years he will be worth a fraction of the rumoured £10 million. If in 3 years he helped us get back to the Premier League and consolidate our position who cares? I would like to sign him, just fractionally too much money.

Chester is wank and for £10million it's a fucking piss take. We're building a side that may go up but would be certainties for relegation in the PL. We'd have to 'go again' if we get promoted. So what do you want us to do, build a Premiership side whilst we're in the Championship? N-O-T G-O-I-N-G T-O H-A-P-P-E-N. Let's build a side specifically to get us promoted and then worry about what to do about staying there, once we've, erm ... actually got there. You know, like what Wolves are doing. Wolves are prepared to pay the money though, we aren't, plus they had PL standard players in the Championship. I know it's difficult but there has to be some semblance of planning, perhaps there is. Chester is Championship defender. He's failed at PL level. £10million is a joke - Villa are on their uppers, desperate for cash. We should take advantage, fuck 'em.

Our only priority is now, and getting back in to the premier league, we can sort the rest out as and when it happens We are no longer eating off the top table so we are rightly hand picking the best of the rest and hopefully hampering our closest rivals at the same time

Huge reliance on a super agent and Chinese owners doesn't necessarily scream longevity but we'll see I guess?

Better out there, younger for fewer £££ Give us a few names then? Dael Fry Caulker Joe Worrall Bernardo Jake Clarke-Salter Callum Connolly (Those two would probably be above 10M but a much better investment.) Fikayo Tomori All younger - similar price - better future potential, sell on. There's a few names. No doubt you or others will find some way to be unsatisifed! EDIT - some of these play Centre-Half AND full back.

Don't know much about the other 3 but would their clubs sell them? Champ clubs exist on an average turnover of about 30m, so outside of the madness of the moment, 5m is a big sum to most - perhaps equivalent to 15-20m in the PL. I'd go for Chester out of all of that list btw, but also agree with those who say 10m is OTT for a good Champ-level, not quite PL-level, CB - when we would probably be looking at 10-12m for Dutch international prove PL-level, 26YO, BMI. So, would try and persuade Villa that 5m and a loan and maybe Souttar thrown in is good business when they are ready to be sensible about this. Failing that Aden Flint or Tom Lees. (And Curtis for 500k is a no brainer so long as its a 1 year and not 5 year deal!).

Apart from Caulker (who's shite) I know nothing about the others, but other than FIFA 18 do you? Looking at the clubs they play for if they are that good would they sell them to us anyway (for any kind of realistic fee). Chester wouldn't be my top pick but a) he's available, b) our new manager seems to fancy him and c) our owner can afford him. That will have to do for me.

Not sure if this is just the media putting 2 and 2 together. Bruno has been quiet and rumours about Davies appear. Hopefully we can have both.

Must admit, if I was in the PL looking to pick off the cream of the teams that had been relegated, BMI would figure strongly! 26, international, excellent club history, shown he perfoms effectively/well at PL level, good mentality in a struggling team - and also part of a really good defence at the end of the season once we had a manager who could organise us. Not sure why he is so cheap, when people like Mawson are being quoted at 20-30m! (And as posted above) - if we are talking about 10m for a 29 year old James Chester, who is evidently a good Championship player but probably not a Prem league player, how the hell is BMI not in the 20m bracket too?

Disagree, Certainly the last 3 Have serious potential, but in a worst case scenario they'd underachieve to a Caulker/McNair level which if this Chester fee if anything to go by would be 8-10m anyway! Caulker and Davies are on a par in my opinion. I didn't include your Ben Gibsons on that list because: price. I can't speak for Fifa but I'll always keep an eye on the u21's/20's, but you'd imagine 8-12M would bag you a budding youngster - if we are to sign a 33 year old (regardless of obscene price) they're a ready back up.

B M-Indi leaving is no news. It has to happen unfortunately. Inter Milan was targeting him in early May.
But Souttar and Collins in defence? Surprise!

At 1.77 metres (wikipedia) he is rather small for a central defender. He might be good, but there are a lot of situations during a season where it is very difficult to compensate for height. I must admit I haven't seen him play much though. If our signings continues like this we will have a very small team next season

The favourites to win the league next season?!.. why gamble on signing unproven players when we can just buy someone who is proven to be one of the best in the league?!.. I'm all for buying younger players in general but only ones who have proven they're up to the task, unless they're an exceptional talent like a Phil Foden type on loan for example.

In a worst case scenario they'll be nowhere near good enough and we'll have bet the farm on them being so won't we? Davies has been a solid player in the top two divisions for the past decade or so and Caulker's life spiralled completely out of control and he's still putting the pieces back together, I don't see how they're on a par? Potential works both ways. I'm all for a younger squad but you've got to have a mix. We were promoted last time with a team full of 'failed Premier League players'.

Careful of headrush moment Stoke. Chester @ 10m??? I would like Chester, he'd be good... but if he is worth 10m, then what should be asking for Bruno? Bruno is younger, proven to better in the PL, an international...? Could we also not be a bit strategic about this? Villa will need to lower their wages and cash in all their assets. After they've done that, they've still got to field a team, so will be looking for decent younger (cheaper) players I'd imagine... So, would Villa not be obliged to take, say, 6m + Souttar + loans e.g. Imbula on loan (wages part subsidised, but our chance to see if he can cut it)? Helps us in several ways. Help them too. Our wages won’t be as generous now we are not in the Premiership, even though we have a parachute payment

When I think about players that we are linked with and have already signed my over riding criteria is I think whether they are good enough for a promotion chasing side in the Championship and the players we have signed so far seem to be as are the players linked. Maybe that’s short termism but I’ve sort of put the premier league on the back burner. We have to get there first and worry about staying there when we do get there. Other clubs now in our league have the same ambition. Signing our competitors best players because we are financially in a better position due to our ten years in the premier league and parachute payments demonstrates that we are the big boys in that regard but on the flip side relegation has also put us back on a par in terms of needing to worry about staying in the premier should we achieve it. Chester is a strong Championship centre half and would strengthen us in the Championship. The rumoured fee of 10 million is high but fees for many players are also ridiculous too. Would he strengthen us- yes and therefore I’m in.
I would hope we could negotiate a lower fee though given that Villa are desperate.

BMI potentially leaving doesn't surprise me because when he's fit he's our best defender, he's bound to get offers to play at a higher level.
So if he does leave signing one of the best defenders in the Championship, someone who is proven and knows the division well is about as good as we could hope for so if there's a chance of signing Chester we should be all over it. £10 million for Chester isn't that much really, we were being linked with Gibson from Boro who was valued at £20 million last year .......

In a season where we should be going all out to get promoted then penny pinching really doesn't concern me. We should go all out for the players we want and that we beleive can get us back to the Prem. If it costs a little more then so be it. We have the extra funds now so we should use them.

Just what are you basing your opinion on exactly?! Chester was good at Hull, poor at WBA & has been exceptional at Villa. It's football, some players & some teams fit, some dont but overall his careers been a success to the point he's one of Villa' s star men & is amongst the big predicted departures to earn them some spends. & I'm basing my opinion on my bro whose a Villa season ticket holder & watched him every game.. He'll be gutted when/if he leaves & especially so if he heads off in our direction.
