I think the article is a bit of a slur on Indi. He missed pre-season and injuries were down to him putting his body on the line. All things being equal I sure he would turn out more often than Ryan in a full season as Ryan has had his problems in recent seasons. And what does "a player he can trust" mean? I see no reason not to trust Indi would give 100% for Stoke. Unless there is reason we are not privy to, I think the article is poor journalism. I'm not claiming Indi is a great CB, he is culpable along with others for the amount of goals conceded, but less than some based on the number of games played.

Where's chopper when you need him? It may have just been me reading too much into it, but Rowett said nothing imminent in the next day when interviewed last night about Afobe and Etebo, does that mean it could be pretty soon?

I think Rowett will see Davies as vitally important in the dressing room.

A stable of Shawcross and Indi as starters and Davies in reserve would be superb, especially with (say) Cameron as fourth choice.

I actually think BMI is over rated- but that doesn’t mean I would want him to go. He more than Shawcross is exposed by any ball over the top as he gets in front of his man looking to intercept, and if he doesn’t then he is out of position- and he doesn’t have that much pace (unlike Zouma) to recover from the mistake. He doesn’t Marshall a defence at all- in our 4-0 home defeat to Chelsea, how as our only recognised centre half does he allow Morata in the opening 2 minutes to be supposedly picked up by Glen Johnson? As an out and out defender I think that Davis is possibly better, but that’s just my view. We need 3 competent Centre Halves so Shawcross BMI & Davis works, if BMI isn’t happy then Davis + 1 other would also be acceptable.

So you're not worried at all that our best defender doesn't want to play for us? I would be more worried if Shawcross or Bauer were going to be honest. It's pretty obvious that Gazza is after Davies ... and there are people like Morgan and Huth available who make a formidable Championship defence with Ryan. There is a lot of crap being banded about at this time of year. From all directions. Don't think anybody will know who's where until deadline day.

Strategy for this window: Players 24-30, proven high quality success in Championship. I don't want 16 year wonderkids thanks. That's for another day. I don't want Prem talent who MIGHT cut it in the Champs And power + pace preferable as DNA. Not injury prone. Noone flismy. As near as damn it, want people proven to perform very well at this level. And if we return to the PL, we will probably then upgrade 3 or so key positions, but that's for another day too.
Candidates, therefore:- James Chester Aden Flint Grant Hanley Tom Lees Pontus Jansson Daniel Ayala Nathan Baker Ciaran Clark (if newcastle upgrade)

If Indi wanted to stay I’m sure we would keep him. But he’s a quality player with aspirations of playing regularly for his country and it’s unlikely to happen while he’s playing in the championship. I’m sure he won’t be short on suitors and I will be sad to see him go.
We need to sign a centre half (two) who we can ‘trust’ on being here for the season. If we sign Davies and Indi was to stay great. But it’s better to have a centre half in who Rowett knows and trusts to do a job for us than be caught short with Indi getting an offer on deadline day and leaving us in the lurch. The club clearly feel that if the right offer comes in for Indi he wants out. And I don’t particularly blame him.

Depends on what defensive formation we are to set up with next season, if it's a 3 at the back then signing Davies makes sense. Early doors I know but Rowett seems to know what he wants, I'm happy to let him get on with it.
