Fuck me its a meeting of the disciples of shit football. For me results matter much more than style of play. On the other hand I think it's a myth that we only played shit football under TP's reign. In fact we had a lot of wonderful games as well, but of course we had some shit ones. I think you could say the same about Huhes' tenure (is this expression ok here by the way?) here too. Hughes tenure went to rat shit theres no doubt about that but in reallity it didn't go to rat shit because he was trying to play expansive football it went to rat shit when he tried to play pulisball because he wasn't any good at it. We did not have a lot of wonderful games under Pulis neither would we under big Sam they don't set out to play good football they set out to strangle the life out of games. That's why football fans hate them wherever they go. Football is supposed to be fun, enjoyable, exciting to play and watch. If you only like winning why not have a go on a tombola?

Why he won’t have the tools? We won’t attract the quality of player he had at West Ham or Everton whilst in the Championship. There won’t be the silly “West Ham way” or “school of science” nonsense to live up to either. Most Stoke fans generally want hard working, fast paced football with a sprinkling of stardust and he can deliver that. I was asking about the any means necessary

Well we have the largest parachute payment this time, then falling away over the next 2, so if we want to get back, next season and the one after represent our best chance. The longer we leave it, the harder it gets. So by any means necessary in the next 2 seasons.

There's no sure thing in football but if we want an instant return to the top table, then Big Sam is the closest thing we're going to get to a sure thing.
He's been there, done that, worn the t-shirt.
And at a club where the hireachry are clearly all over the shop, he is the sort of no nonsense manager, who will come in, take the club (from top to bottom) by the scruff of it's neck and demand that ALL of it is done HIS way.
It's almost certainly what we need right now.
His Bolton side played some great stuff at times and his record there cannot be questioned.
Is he capable of emulating that side here? Who knows and maybe he couldn't but the safety net to that is that his pragmatism would most likely get us up and keep us up.
If West Brom or Swansea announced that he was THEIR new manager, we would be worried, very worried because the media would have that team nailed on favourites for promotion and that club would have the magnet for the players we would most likely want to sign ourselves.
Would we be prepared to meet his salary expectations and would he be interested in coming here? ... almost certainly not.

Seen some people demanding to get back to the premier as it’s the greatest place on Earth blah blah blah. Tbh, I’d be happier to rebuild this next year and go at it again with a fully capable squad (although if we could get that squad thisbyear bonus). I just don’t fancy yoyo’ing for the next few years never actually enjoying any of it

Why March when was it last successful. Howard Wilkinson? Are you trying to deny that Big Sam and TP are not two of the most successful managers for clubs of our size. Perhaps you would prefer we go for Moanbury or Bobby Martinez. I want success. Nothing else - just success.

I'm not comfortable with the various allegations over a decade of Sam's corruption in transfer dealing. Are we just going to let that slide?
I'd rather take my chances on some fresh ideas and see the club rebuild some semblance of a good reputation personally.

I don’t particularly like the guy but I do like the idea of selling the “project” to him.
For me I think he’s a good fit if he’d come which I think would be the biggest stumbling block.

Can’t see why he can’t be though. It isn’t really. He didn’t really build anything at West Ham and they couldn’t wait to be rid of him. He had the chance to stay at Palace and chose not to. He had the chance to prove he’s the big club manager he thinks he is at Everton and turned them into Bolton.

Can’t see why he can’t be though. Yes I think that's a fair comment, there's no reason per se why he couldn't be. Having said that, unless Coates was prepared to put the mother of all bounties on the table, then I'd expect he'd be more interested in spending time on the Algarve than in Stoke.
