You never see poll results like this with managers. Even at the end of the Pulis era, he had 32% with him on here. This is the dictionary definition of untenable But then, there was a reasonable number chanting his name after the Palace match. I didn't understand it or agree with it, but it's as likely to be paid attention to as a poll on here. Any club owners with anything about them would keep their ear to the Oatcake to see how the land lay. But genuine question, who would you pay more attention to if you were undecided, this board or the people at the match? Yeah - I have no real explanation for that chant on Saturday. I stayed behind to clap a bit, but that chanting was just bizarre. Is it possible that once the chant rose to a certain level, people joined in just to make it a bit of a feelgood moment as we tried to show some defiance and unity ? I can't believe there's a significant number who genuinely want him to stay, can you? Anecdotally, amongst my friends, there isn't one who wouldn't get rid tomorrow...

Agree with all that, and yeah, as I said elsewhere, we need a fresh start. It's just odd that we've had other managers who as legend goes, rarely had their name sung, then we've got the 1 in 14 guy who gets the musical thumbs up. Like you said, it was probably an attempt to show solidarity in adversity, but it was very strange.

I thought the Pulis one was accurate and so is this one (I can't remember if there was a Hughes one. I'm sure there was). The Oatcake is probably the closest thing to a military wing that you can get at Stoke, and it probably is a bit more reactionary than the bloke who just reads the Sentinel with his pipe and slippers every night. But I've always thought it was an accurate and representative barometer.

Message boards, like phone ins are way to the extreme end of opinions. However that's not to say the opinions are wrong.

Alas only 0.1% of a (very) full match day universe though.*
Prof John Curtice wouldn't be having that as "robust", sadly.
I think it's more the overwhelming verdict that is more compelling Grapey.
* some clever maths-y person better check that for me.

Lambert couldn't win games with a firing Christian Benteke in his team though, musik! www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/birmingham-mail-says---aston-8624784Today the Birmingham Mail makes one simple, stark request to the Aston Villa board: sack the manager. Paul Lambert is not the man to save this club from relegation and the long-term damage that disaster will bring. We do not say this lightly, nor do we take any pleasure in saying that Lambert should go. The Birmingham Mail has been as patient as many of the claret and blue fans, standing by and hoping things will improve. Despite the results, despite the performances. But time is now up. No progress has been made under Lambert. In fact, this once mighty club is now staring relegation in the face. Lambert has presided over just two Premier League victories in 20 matches since agreeing a bumper new four-year deal in mid-September. The poor, and too often dull, performances mean the team is last on Match Of The Day nearly every week - and at this rate destined for an even later Saturday night slot on the Football League show next season. That’s why Villa must act now - before it’s too late. Awful football, declining attendances, and post-match excuses that beggar belief. We don’t believe Lambert anymore. He is out of ideas, there is nothing left for him to say to his players that he hasn’t said already. We respect his integrity and loyalty, but the fans don’t want him. The fans deserve better. Enough is enough. Fucking hell, that article is terrifying. Can we amend to scfc details and send to the board

Huge failure apart from an improvement to discipline that I reckon a primary school teacher could have achieved!
Woeful subs. Terrible tactics. Horrible style of play with ZERO end product. Mr Bore Draw.
If that was Mr Lambert’s “Style” or got to play when we absolutely needed wins imagine what it is like when he reverts to normal season mode!
No thanks, get him gone Mr Coates before if bloody costs you money to do so in November/December. You need to give the fans some wings now to get behind the club for the new season and not end on what would be a huge damp squib! Put a silver lining on a shit season.

1 in 14
Southampton are staying up with 7 wins all season
Next survivors have 8
Two wins away from staying up and he couldn't manage that. Shit goal difference, yes, but another draw would've done it
Complete and utter failure

I think the Board thought: well, we can't get who we want, but this squad with a few additions is plenty good enough for 17th easy! If he's a bit shit next season then ......will be free to push on to Europe! Even Dennis Smith would have had his doubts and he's so loyal and positive if he'd been a nazi in Hitler's bunker, with the Russians at the door he'd have still told Adolf not to give up, there's every chance of turning this around! 😬

All roads lead back to Norwich...a decade ago....conveniently forgetting that his two key lieutenants haven't worked with him since. It was a bizarre appointment, but compounding it now by keeping him would be unforgivable. I'd really admire the Coates' if they swallowed their pride, admitted their mistake, and moved on.
