I was willing to give him a chance and there were encouraging signs: a better defence, better work-rate, and discipline on and off the field. And he inherited a squad from which it is impossible to put together an effective forward line. (In fairness, he has tried just about every combination.) However, our inability to hold a lead and the disastrous removal of Crouch yesterday suggest a man who does not have enough tactical sharpness for the modern game. I agree with Smudge on Radio Stoke last night- you can't continue to employ a man with Lambert's record over 14 games. A (sort of) advantage of being in the Championship is that it is easier to bring in a young manager with up to date ideas. If not Graham Potter, then someone of that type. Yeah, just listened to Praise and Grumble. Hard to argue with Smudge's call. "It's impossible we could retain a manager with that record, and I don't expect them to sit on their hands"

Lamberts record is worse this season than Hughes was, simply has to go. Awful appointment, awful manager. A technical dinosaur.

New Manager bringing his own players and a clearout. Ryan Shawcross can go as how many of his mistakes have cost us this season. Will he be any better in the Championship?

Is he still fucking here?
Our club has become a laughing stock with lambert in charge.
Get him gone now, his idea of football is prehistoric.
Sort the board out later but every day Lambert is still employed at Stoke is another day closer to relegation from the championship

My only concern would be keeping Shawcross and BMI fit for 46 games so we would need quality back up.....

In his one season Watford were comfortably mid table and reached an FA Cup semi final. Before that he won the UEFA Europa League and reached the Copa del Rey final. We clearly don't need these types of foreigners when we have the likes of Lambert and Hughes at our disposal. Your points are valid, he was without doubt the best candidate out of the ones we were linked to but you are missing the point i'm making. The point i'm making is the profile of managers our board target. His football isn't in line with a lot of foreign coaches and he's regarded on the continent as a 'safe pair of hands'. His football at Watford was dull and that was with two strikers like Deeney and Ighalo - two strikers that would walk into our current side with their eyes closed. What would he have done here with Crouch and Diouf, with a board of directors that claim they "tried hard" but failed to bring in another striker? What style of football would he have played here with the club deep in the mire when he shit himself at Watford with them in midtable, but starting to drop? There is a serious issue at this club with the type of managers our owners go for and until that changes we will be on this vicious cycle with the name in the dugout changing, but the guts of the argument remaining the same. People need to elevate the argument out of the long grass and elevate it quickly to where the real problems lie, else this club could be damaged for a long, long time. The 'likes' of Lambert are the symptom of the problem and certainly not the cause. The people upstairs need a summer of soul searching and it needs to happen fast. There needs to be a change in direction and fast else there is only one place we are going, and that is following Sunderland back to League One. Brilliant post!

If things are not working you change. The fact that he only used two subs means he did not try hard enough today. That’s disgraceful I'm all seriousness who else could have came on and have changed the game? At 1-1 Adam or Ireland At 65 minutes the game was crying out for Ireland

I didn't need any help to feel grumpy yesterday, so I decided to give myself a break by staying off here yesterday.
I don't particularly dislike Lambert (but I also didn't dislike George Eastham, Chic Bates, Alan Ball or Chris Kamara) but like those 4 he is completely out of his depth as a manager.
He was appointed with one task. To win 3 or 4 games out of 15 by whatever means necessary. He has failed.
Lambert has not just returned to basics, he has gone back to the primordial soup of football tactics.
Normally you would expect a number of the players to play to a higher level following a change of manager for all sorts of reasons; clean slate, change of tactics, different training, managerial inspiration etc.
With the exception of maybe Erik (and that because he is now only being asked to defend) all the players now look worse footballers than they did under Hughes. Sure they might be running a bit harder and for 10 minutes longer in the game but the skill set of the players appears to have fallen off a cliff
We have gone from a team full of complacent, coasting Premier League players who thought they were too good to be in a relegation dogfight to a situation yesterday where it looked like we hadn't ever seen a football in training. We couldn't trap a bag of cement, keep possession for more than 2 or 3 passes and in a game we had to win, I still can't remember the 2nd shot on target we were supposed to have had.
I don't think the board even contemplated the possibility that we might finish bottom of the table and be the first team relegated when they sacked Mark Hughes and certainly don't think they would have appointed a manager who they thought might make that a reality.
I hope that we will take the necessary action (at all levels) to address the issues that have been starkly revealed over the last 18 months.
Removing the ridiculous restriction on only looking in the same tired old pool of managerial failures and appointing a new, young, progressive manager with a good coaching background (and high quality coaching support staff) would be one step forward.
I don't care, in fact I might encourage, the appointment of a manager who has ambition to move up to manage one of the top 6 Premier League clubs and who sees Stoke as a stepping stone to that ambition.

I agree Lambert has failed to show he offers anything to get the club out of the mess we are in. But I think supporters and the club are also wrong if they think the problem starts and finishes with the manager. The whole running of the club is in a mess. Examples that come to mind are: the dreadful player signings (Berahino, Imbula, Wimmer, there are more), the total failure of the academy to produce a single player who can consistently play in the first team, the IT, the tardiness in ground development (e.g. filling in the corner should have been done in the 1st year in the Prem.). Hopefully the scales will now fall from the eyes of the owners and drastic action will start to rebuild the club. It only starts with a new manager who will inspire a new bunch of players, but somehow I doubt it. I am deeply concerned that the club will now go straight down to the 1st Division like Sunderland and others. You are correct to be concerned. This current shitshow is taking us into oblivion. Those that talk of 'bouncing straight back' need to face reality.

Can't see what he could have done differently, look at the bench yesterday , Christ, championship clubs have better players. There was some idiot on P & G yesterday saying he should have given Berahino a chance, how many chances does he need. Not heard anyone realistically say what he could have done differently. The squad is just a disaster and only Hughes is responsible for that.

The fact that you are saying you don't see what he could have done differently only proves my suspicions more that Lambert sees the game in the exact same way as Joe Bloggs Football Fan. That's not a dig at you, you aren't a professional football manager.

we got the formation of a good defence only if they stay?? cant see Lambert being anything other than a middle of the table manager. 0-0, 1-1 draws abound. but cant see him leaving what other job would he get? who would want him? only got the job because everyone else did not want RELEGATED on their CV. but as he is not going will just have to see what the summer holds

Instil a modicum of calmness, control and focus in the last quarter of every game, rather than the blind panicking hoofing we witnessed. We never looked like winning a game always awaiting the inevitable collapse

Lambert tried the same formation in pretty much every situation.
Yesterday the 11 he started with may have been the right players but a 442 with a flying RB on the left wing and a 10 with limited defensive ability offering protection for an aging, slow RB against flyers like Townsend and Zaha was madness.
I liked Lambert's passion but results have proved he really is out of his depth.
