Do you see any indication that is on the cards? I think he was making the point that he COULD be sacked. He's not a shareholder. He's the Chief Executive Officer. Donald Trump COULD act with dignity Arsenal Wenger COULD see that foul his player committed My lottery numbers COULD up None are going to happen,Scholes will be here a long time ...I may have gone to far with the Wenger comment, that's just preposterous, sorry.

In such circumstances in any other business there would be a change in top level management. However at Stoke City, corporate governance and responsible business aren’t terms which appear to carry much weight.
It’s highly likely the existing CEO will continue to preside over a failing business.

He is the CEO and is on the board because of that position, not because he is a shareholder. His employment contract should contain a provision that, should his employment as CEO be terminated, he will resign as director. In any event the company articles will allow the shareholders, ie Bet365, to remove him from the board if they so choose. Do you see any indication that is on the cards? Right now, no - he is a buffer between them and supporter disgruntlement and he has marshalled their finances carefully. Once they realise how much money relegation will cost us, they may think twice, but even then, as with Hughes, I reckon they will give him a chance to put things rights, by engineering promotion in a year or two (parachute payments somewhat cushion the blow of relegation for now), and only if we continue to plummet would his position be under threat. I see Cartwright as much more of a man on borrowed time.

Claudio always said he first goal was 40 points and didn’t turn out too badly, did it? No but Tony meant it. Most realistic Premiership Managers will regard 40 points as being the 1st target for a successful season. A point that isn’t considered is TP’s last season of 2012/2013 in charge which went downhill so fast after January following closure of the transfer window was like a guy jumping out of a plane without a parachute and yet we ended with a haul of 42/43points. Can anybody guess what happened on 10 (or 12) of December 2012?

Was it something that Coates didn't see as sufficient excuse for the drop-off in form that occurred directly after the Liverpool game in December to the point where we flew so close to the trapdoor that he sacked the bloke at the end of the season? Incidentally, if you're saying the results went downhill after closure of the transfer window, how would you describe results during the window, these being lost, lost, lost, drawn?

I think that after the debacle that this season has been John and Peter have some huge decisions to make. If they were to get rid of Scholes, and I think they should, who would they appoint as his successor ? Another accountant or someone with more of a footballing background ?
As for Carto he should be ceremonially booted out of the club and replaced with a proper director of football. In fact do we really need anybody in his role ? Is our "system" the best approach for scouting and new signings ? How do other successful clubs operate ?
Huge changes needed but have the Coates got the balls and the vision to make them ?

The dramatic turn down in events was the appointment of a new Technical Director, Mr Cartwright. Possibly just coincidental. I’m not trying to suggest Cartwright had anything to do with what went on, on the pitch however I’m of the opinion that something significant occurred behind the scenes. Strange how 4 months of poor results saw Pulis leave (still attaining 42 or 43 points) and yet it took the club almost 12 months to release Hughes for similar on top of a poor recruitment history

He absolutely fell out with Scholes, it's not really a secret. However Pulis falls out with people everywhere he goes. You can't use that to beat Scholes with. Think you will find John Coates is not a Pulis fan either. The key to me is whose fault was the QSF debacle? Scholes? John Coates? No one? All a bit murky still.

Both fair calls, however John C won’t be held accountable For sure and I do fear for a reign with him in charge as he has undoubtedly been a central figure in the transfer debacle , but ultimately the man in charge of a desperately failing business is scholes .

But did he? We don't know.

It always seemed like things would get rolling when Hughes spoke to players when he was manager.

The very notion that we enter this delicate rebuilding operation with both of these discredited fools in charge of it is utterly absurd.
So absurd that I expect both of them to be in situ when the window opens.
No lessons learned, complacency, same old fucking shit.

Strange how 4 months of poor results saw Pulis leave (still attaining 42 or 43 points) and yet it took the club almost 12 months to release Hughes for similar on top of a poor recruitment history Thanks for responding reasonably. Shit day + late night + alcohol made for a bit of a tetchy mood last night, so I apologise for my post being a bit sour. The big money signings of Crouch and Palacios plus a glut of strangely underwhelming signings in the previous window seemed to spark a change in the relationship between the owners and Pulis. He seemed to react badly to the changes or to the personalities involved, and this, along with results, style of football and the resultant drop off in season ticket sales did for him. Hughes and/or the transfer team have since wasted a shedload more money, though by then the owners could afford to take a much bigger hit. Hughes was maybe allowed more time because it did appear for a few years that he could progress the club in a way that Pulis couldn't, or wouldn't - his record for downing tools at 40 points at all his Premier League clubs is rather pointed. The problem (or in messageboard terms, the fun of it) is that we'll probably never know where the lion's share of the blame lies for all the shenanigans that go on at football clubs, so we're all able to point the finger wherever we think it fits. There've certainly been some odd goings on at the club over the years.

But did he? We don't know. I thought it had been established that QSF wasn't prepared to take a drop in remuneration in the event of relegation. Also that he wanted to bring 2 players with him, one immediately and the other in the summer. Maybe that player would have been the one to create or score the goals that kept us up. Stoke weren't prepared to meet any of those demands so they ended up with the "cheap" option of Lambert. Worked out well. 😞
