No doubt a lot of supporters will have received PC’s letter today. Many may not read it until after returning home from work
IMHO
He has to be applauded for saying;
“There’s no escaping the fact that it has been a desperately disappointing campaign by the standards we have set ourselves since being promoted to the Pemier League in 2008”
“My family and I have shared your disappointment and feel the pain of losing as intensely as anyone who holds Stoke City close to their hearts”
A missed opportunity
I believe he has missed a great and golden opportunity to say what a lot of supporters would have gave him MASSIVE credit for.
Something along the lines of;
We have made mistakes, we have learned lessons. Plans are in place to rectify those mistakes, action has already commenced that we believe will guarantee short and long term prosperity for Stoke City. No one should underestimate our plans to cement the clubs rightful place within the Premier League
Just my personal thoughts as a supporter

Aye, just had it through I wish he'd have signed it off: "I now see what all the fuss was about, I was wrong. I will now stop making stupid comments in the media. Yours Faithfully, PC P.S Scholes & Cartwright are gone in the summer. "

Instantly reminded me of the “Nothing Else Matters” campaign 97-98.
‘Don’t even think about having a pop at me and the board in the coming weeks for contributing to the mess we’re in, you should be supporting the team like good little Stoke fans’. Oh, and give us your money now.’
Or am I reading too much into it? 😂

I think people who are expecting Coates to admit to mistakes are expecting too much. His mistake may well have been to stay loyal to Mark Hughes longer than he should have done, ... but he did it for good, honourable reasons. There was also the fear that removal would cause instability, which in a sense it has. Should we the fans apologise to him for expecting a mid-table side, being complacent as a whole, and giving up (as many have) despite us still being in with a shout of survival. We have lost a bond with the players and vice versa. That is something that has happened over a period of time and is only magnified now, because of the poor run we've been on. That is the crux of the problem and is something I would not point an accusatory finger at Coates for causing.

Fair play to both the Chairman and the club for the communication - at least they are now admitting that problems exist and are desperately trying to reach out to the fans. Actually, all but one of our lot have renewed so I don't get the scent of falling season card sales being the whole reason for the letter.

Its to try and get you to buy season tickets He probably didn’t but he would have sanctioned it’s release I agree with your second sentence. The last paragraph of the letter is cringeworthy and leaves PC open to cynical abuse/comment. A serious mistake!!

What the hell does he mean by “...well equipped for what ever the future holds”? There are only possible outcomes: 1) relegation or 2) staying up. We are not prepared for either event.

Was decent of him to send a personalised letter...
Dear Miles,
Thanks for being probably our best ever supporter.
Your posts on the Oatcake haven't gone unnoticed. All the Stoke City Board read them and we think they're great. They stand out like a beacon of sanity in a crazy world.
Peter Coates
Chairman
PS. I'll be posting again as "Davesviews" when the transfer window re-opens. Carto says it gives him and the lads downstairs a bit of a laugh.

There was me thinking I'd received a personal missive from the chairman of Stoke City personally thanking me for my efforts for the cause and I log on here and find that every other Tom, Dick and Harry have had one.
Devastated.

He has done loads for this club. 10 years in the Premiership - no one would have dreamt that. State of the art Academy. Memories beyond belief. Fabulous ticket prices compared to most. Players we could have only dreamed of, 11 years ago and some excellent nogga.
But for goodness sake, man up and admit the last two years have been top to bottom mismanagement. Teams go down, it happens, but the way we have regressed is on your watch
If you dont act, we have no legacy, just a bunch of great memories. WHich I grant you is more than I expected when you retook over the club and appointed teh capped one again

It was an appeal to people who hadn't renewed to renew. It's that simple.
