Lambert will cop for some of the blame and maybe there were far more talented options around who could have made a silk purse out of Cartwright's ear but this relegation is squarely on Hughes. Even bearing mind all the contributing factors around ambition, due diligence on signings and all the other utter shit that surrounds the club at present, the squad that Hughes put together this season was so bad it was beyond all comprehension. That coupled with his Liberty Hall approach to discipline and training and its clear he was simply going through the motions and collecting his pay cheque in the end. Knowing that the distant memory of three 9th placed finishes would secure his seat on the next Premier League Gravy train out of the station. He deserved the credit in the bank he got but fuck me in the end he made use of every penny and was trading on fresh air in the end. In my mind this will never be recalled as the season Paul Lambert took us down or Peter Coates it will be the season that a negligent Mark Hughes did. We all see things different sheik.... For me it won't be the season Mark Hughes took us down....it'll be more of a collective view, a season of total monumental fuck ups....and Lambert has to share some of that responsibility!!! This is not a vendetta against Lambert, I wanted him to succeed as much as the next man, but he's failed to deliver on some much needed winnable games!!! Fair enough mate, I just think this relegation can be traced much earlier back than this season and that clearly diminishes Lambert's culpability further in my view. That said, I think we would be in agreement that Lambert shouldn't be here next season whatever happens. In fact if Coates came out and said we've made a terrible mistake and we're asking Kevin Russell (or even some last gasp fresh voice from anywhere) to take the final few games, I'd broadly be in support of it. Lambert really han't been very good as he?

Don't know, but I'm sure he could have been tempted, and sold a compelling story - decent salary - money to spend on a striker etc - more funds available to push on in the summer etc etc Yes it would have been expensive but it looks like the board took the easy/cheap option and that is ultimately going to cost them money. You should always strive for the best, doesn't mean you will achieve it but it is the correct mindset to have. We've witnessed poor and indecisive leadership.

Fail to understand the amount of flak Lambert is getting for trying to make the best out of a situation not of his making. Ok you might disagree with a few player selections but there really isn’t a lot to choose from and nothing that would really have made any significant difference to our fate. We are copping the consequences for long term mismanagement and the best we can do is to get behind the current bloke and see if some totally bizarre set of occurances result in us surviving relegation. Further assessment / recriminations might aswell wait until our destination is confirmed. A better manager could have kept this squad up fairly comfortably imo Correct. And such a manager is currently twiddling his thumbs at M’boro.

Not in any way comparing his managerial talents versus TP or MH but I do find his press conferences nothing short of excruciating. I simply can't watch them, he keeps interrupting the questions by making strange noises and then completely misunderstand what he is asked. I don't meant he misunderstands in a way a politician might who would prefer to answer another question instead, I mean he just either doesn't hear or understand the questions asked. It makes for agonising viewing. Say what you like about TP and MH, but I genuinely enjoyed their 'prezzers', TP's folksy wisdom and South Wales 'burr' made for excellent viewing and I enjoyed Sparky's dry wit and occasional swagger. I mean if by some miracle he keeps us up he should be given the freedom of the town but I won't be tuning in to PL's press conferences again any time soon, they are just a nonsense Must be in the eye (or ear) of the beholder. Frankly I found Hughes to be a boring old fart. I agree with you on most things but you are wrong there. An MH presser is an intelligent discourse, a PL presser is like you have stumbled in to some sort of corrective institution. You'd listen if it was your job and someone paid you to do it but not otherwise!

How people can lay blame at Lamberts door for the mess we are in is out of order this has been caused mainly by Coates & his board of yes men dithering over the sacking of Hughes. Lambert was a desperate appointment by a club who had truly fucked up big time & been turned down by there 1st & 2nd & probably 3rd choice managers. I am not trying to defend Lambert but he was out of work & anyone in that predicament & is offered the chance of working again in the premier league is going to jump at the chance.

In fact really one basic expectation in this case, and he's flubbed it.

Plus “significant” individual player mistakes makes it hard to understand your opinion. If he saves us (it’s a massive ask) this board will be full of posts by the same posters (they know who they are) trying to undermine every aspect of his tenure. Only waiting to claim “we told you so”. Fucking pathetic really

That's fair enough but I think the players we have were capable of more than that.

Other clubs in a similar situation signed forwards in the January window ! Correct - Newcastle signed Slimani who hasn't played yet Southampton signed Carillo no goals in 8 appearances Swansea signed Andre Ayew no goals in 4 appearances WBA signed Sturridge, Oh dear The only striker that's done anything is Tosun at Everton and that's thanks to us mainly. 14 months ago we signed a striker who had failed to score for 9 months he has now failed to score for 2 fuckin years, do you not think it might have been an idea to have at least tried to sign someone to take the place of the useless twat ?

Sorry, but I can't see it that way myself!!! Swansea were rock bottom when Clement was in charge....since Carlos Carvalhal has taken over, he's dragged them off the bottom and out of the bottom three, with some cracking results along the way!!! Hodgson dragged Palace out of the bottom three when they hadn't even won a game for the first so many games.....BOTH look more capable of avoiding the drop now more than Stoke!!! For me, all the board have done with Hughes and Lambert is swap like for like, and if we go down, then Lambert is equally to blame!!! Hughes may have created the shit, but Lambert doesn't have what it takes to get us out, therefore he's equally to blame!!! However....majority of the blame lies entirely at the feet of those at the top, it should NEVER have been allowed to get this bad in the first place!!! I’m not saying Lambert is a genius or anything like but perhaps both the managers you refer to were left with more to work with than he was. Come on Wuzza ... the Swansea squad is absolutely awful. The success that Carlos Carvalho has had with a limited group of players only goes to highlight how poorly Lambert has done. It's not entirely his fault, but one win from eight games (considering the opposition) demonstrates what a poor appointment Lambert was.

Please gods, you enjoyed Mark Hughes' same old spout of shite week in week out. He was as dull as dishwasher I grant you there were no great fireworks but he had a dry sense of humour, understood and addressed the questions put to him and championed the club and his players. I'm not trying to justify what went wrong with the squad building but I found his press conferences eminently watchable. They were at least a coherent discourse between intelligent adults! PL's are simply unwatchable, have you really tried sitting through one and making sense of what is being said, its just more mental pain than living should allow! We were warned. Staffs Villa said very similar words when we appointed Lambert.

I have this horrible feeling we will see Johnson Crouch and Fletcher at Arsenal. He loves his old guard does Lambert. If Bauer is not restored, Diouf too, there will be no pace whatsoever, it dunner bear thinking about. What a sorry mess this squad is.

Lambert is a useless fraud of a manager, who wouldn’t know a good tactical game plan if it ejaculated on his face.
The fact he churns out the same robotic bollocks every week and we’re three points from safety and an even less threatening side than we were under Hughes just shows what a complete penis he is, and that absolutely nothing he says holds any merit whatsoever.
It’s quite obvious that he was the only candidate interviewed for the job, and he had absolutely no previous knowledge of the squad like he claimed he had, if he did we wouldn’t be seeing the quite frankly inexplicable team selections and substitutions we’ve been seeing, he’s fluffed his way into a position he’s nowhere near well equipped enough to deal with because the supposed steady heads we have in charge completely shit their pants and got the first person in the door who begged for the job because they knew it’d be minimum effort, and indeed minimum financial outlay for them to do this.
Not buying the argument that Hughes has sent us down, he’s been the main contributor yes, but how Lambert has only won 1 of 8 games when we’ve had some very favourable fixtures is pathetic, he’s wank, the squad is wank, the ownership is wank and we’re falling into a wank league, where we’ll stay wank for a while.
I couldn’t give a fuck if we go on a miracle run from now and stay up, this man is not in any way shape or form suitable to lead this club forward, regardless of the division it ends up in.

I honestly don't want to undermine Lamberts efforts so far as he hasn't been in the job very long but I did expect a bigger points return from the games he has been in charge especially with the opposition we have played.Granted,we seem stronger defensively but attacking wise we are no better than when Hughes was manager, not just goals scored but chances created. Irrepective who we are playing we obviously need a few wins but I fully expect Lambert to go into his default mode at Arsenal and play for a draw and for us to come away with a 'battling' 2-0 defeat.I sincerely hope I am wrong but I cannot see any other outcome.

Playing to win requires the scoring of goals Mr Lambert Scoring goals requires chances to be made Making chances requires possession of the football and players to get up in support of the lone attacker Something we haven't been able to do some time before Lambert got here.
