Because we are currently averaging a point a game (ish) in the Prem which is a comparable level is it not? Indeed but you are thinking that we're a well run club who will have a plan. We're not. How well run we are is neither here nor there when the players are not producing what they are paid to do. Or indeed when they are. I blame the board for not acting quicker with Hughes, but I can see a rationale for what they did. However there is no excuse whatsoever for lack of effort from the players, no matter how inept the manager or board appear to be. If we go down I actually think we will sign the sort of players we should have been signing for the last two years.

The problem is the Championship is just as much a grind, i can't see us wanting to compete with those willing to spend down there, I don't think it'll be any better, just a few more shockingly boring games. We've got Fletcher, Adam and Afellay contracted for another year. None are what you need in Championship. Add Berahino Wimmer Imbula Bojan Cheapo and we are sitting on a lot of wages that will be no use in that league and all will be hard to shift . Just hope they have clauses that slash their money if we go down

When we went down with 17points we only beat ManU, Arsenal and Sheffield W. If we are going down then I want my last hurrah, we’ve beat the Arsenal (might even do the double on their current form) Man City would be lovely. But let’s not kid ourselves other than one amazing time in the seventies the best moments in the top league were always about taking down a top team. Ask the supporters of the Premier league era their favourite Premier League games and I bet it will be, thrashing Liverpool, Chelsea at home, Man U Too outplaying Citeh at the Brit under Hughes and Beatties goal against City under TP the loudest I can remember for 30 odd years.
Take you medicine and turn up and you never know I still think we have an upset in us and if we do stay up on the most nail biting day at Swansea I guarantee you will all cheer and toast the team you adore. Have a mental to match the promotion one and breathe a huge sigh of relief. Anyone that says they’d rather go to the Championship instead of that is a bloody liar or not a football fan at all. It’s those moments that define our club it’s as simple as that.

So is the premier league after watching that Chelsea effort. Woooooo relegation. So what are you expecting when they play Stoke ? A gung-ho performance from the Potters ? Or ten behind the ball to try to avoid a thrashing.

Premier League is definitely not overrated - it´s the best league in the world, a big competition and there are many different champions - that´s unique in Europe. Many games are faster than in every other good league in Europe, but not every game can be a season´s top game.
...anyway the discussion is currently misplaced, as there are 5 PL Teams in the last sixteen of the Champions League. People are also petted of consuming too many games the media deliver.

The prospect of relegation really doesn't bother me all that much. The only thing I'll miss is being able to watch every game online. I live in London so can't get to many games and the prospect of going to Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea again next season fills me with zero excitement. I'd genuinely much rather go to Fulham, Brentford, Millwall, QPR etc. Proper grounds and games where I'll believe we have a chance of coming away with three points.
I think for the fans in their 20s, they've only really known Stoke as a Premier League team so they can't imagine supporting a football league club but it honestly isn't that bad! We've had 10 years in the Prem and if we go down, there's a good chance we'll be back in a couple of years anyway. Keep the faith!

The prem is where you need to be. A massive difference financially, not just for the club but also for the city's economy. It'll be a sad day when we do drop.

Anyone thinking that the championship will offer anything more entertaining than the Premier League in terms of quality of football is sadly deluded.
There's a reason we were so fucking ecstatic to get out of it.

My dad was more or less the age I am now in '85 and he remembers people saying we'd be back soon then too But I hope you're right, most of the guys I go with only really took an interest in 2008 but I'm fine with that, it's natural. It's no the be all and end all, but it's going to be absolutely miserable if we don't hit the ground running if the worst happens.

People keep reminiscing about it like it was some form of dreamland. It fucks me off. Will your 100,000th post be Premier league or Championship standard? To be fair, the vast majority have already been Evo Stick north standard so we can all expect worse than that when we go down.

I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a cleansing of the club from top to bottom including the hangers on premier league plastic fans who will dig out their old pre 2008 Man U tops, or newly purchased Man City ones, and leave us genuine Potters to support the club when it needs us the most again. It will be interesting to see who suddenly stops posting on here as well once we do go down, which we almost certainly will. Yep, my thoughts exactly.

The danger of us slipping into oblivion and spending time in League One obviously isn't attractive but we're not a crisis club. In terms of size of club, we're upper Championship/Lower Premier League so the fact that we've had 10 years in the Prem is good and can be looked back on fondly. There have been errors in the last couple of years at board level but we're not run like a Sunderland or a Charlton. I honestly don't think we'd spend more than a couple of seasons in the Championship before bouncing back. If we found ourselves in the Top 6 with a few months to go, the crowds would come back too.

Well I’m giving up after 35 years. Hardly fair weather. I’ve done my share of trips to Brentford on a cold wet Tuesday night. Not doing it again, the younger generation can do that next season. I’m out. It’s not just that, it’s a corrupt game now and I simply cannot continue to support a game that pays its players such obscene amounts then tolerates it when they just can’t be arsed - such as our lot at the moment. On top of THAT, our own club don’t give two hoots about us fans and don’t deserve our money. Then there’s people like me being endlessly called “knicker wetters” by many on here for pointing out it was all going wrong two seasons ago. How does that sound now eh? Just sick of the whole thing now. So this is my final season as a football fan. If you have been a Stoke fan for 35 years then you have seen far, far worse than this. I find your mindset absolutely baffling if I’m honest. He may well have seen worse, but what sort of nutter wants to see it again? Believe it or not, given the chance of being frustrated, bored witless and listening to some of the moronic comments of our “hard core” fans for 2 hours on a Saturday, or actually doing something worthwhile, then there will be quite a few who will think twice about turning up.I find the mindset of people whose whole life seems to revolve around a football club a little bit sad.

What about the Ball and Little years? Absolute shite! It's only good if you are winning and there is absolutely no guarantee of that Aye it was dog shit. But you have to go through bad times to appreciate the good ones...it’s what being a footie fan is all about! So why can't we enjoy the good times? Prem might seem boring, but it's the pinnacle and we see the best players in the world week in week out. Problem is it's not exciting enough to be mid table for some Let's face it if we go go down we might never come back. Then we'll pine for the years when we finished 9 etc

Football is looking more like a game of handball every week.
Attack against defence with 80-20% possession stats.
It doesnt make good viewing

Of course it worked for a good while because we already had plenty of them...
