There is a way of scoring goals for a club in our position. They are called set pieces. Yesterday they were poor again. Now our defensive shape is sorted and the fitness of the players is sorted we need to throw all our efforts into scoring from set pieces. If we don’t we will go down. It's also one of Crouchie's few pluses as a lone striker! What about Bauer's "long throw"? Nowhere near Delap's standard but worth a punt?

Dont usually agree with you mate but this is spot on. We have two big Center Backs, crouch was on yesterday too, we are awful at set pieces and have been since TP left.

I can't see how your table ended up pyrus unfortunately it won't let me open it. But having just done the calculator, we end up 16th on 37 points. With baggies, Southampton and Brighton going down. I was very strict on us, however I had us beating Burnley, palace and Swansea on the last day ( big ask), and a draw with Everton. All the rest were tonkings. Maybe we can just make it?

In Lambert's games in charge we have played 6 and scored 5 so I really believe we can do this, but I can also see that we struggle scoring enough goals. Despite this I like to go into our last 9 games with some optimism! Rob - I appreciate your sentiment but given the opposition 'playing 6 and scoring 5' means that to win matches there is zero margin for error and we are looking at scraping three 1-0 wins. I simply can't see it and would rather prepare myself for the inevitable but we all have our own ways of dealing with things As long as there is life there is hope!

We won't win three games.
We could conceivably beat Palace, but I'd eat my hat if we win three.
Two is even too much to ask from this bunch.

All too late and I'm not convinced we have the players to beat anyone. Our attack is like my time machine designs, they look great on paper but when you put them to the test they are just too slow and lack any thrust. Lamberts doing as much as he can given what he was left to work with but I don't think he's the man to carry us forward or to fight a promotion battle. Do they even look great on paper???

It has been pretty rough watching us recently. Agreed. We have had 5 corners in the last 2 (180+ minutes) away matches. We have conceded 28 corners in the same time. Even for a team looking to defend that is pretty dull stuff.

I thought this when I first read the post. Shaqiri- Very good. Allen- Not an attacker. Choupo- Dogshit. Berahino- Dogshit. Diouf- Nice bloke, but dogshit. Ramadan- Who? Campbell- Child. Jese- Dogshit. Crouch- Not dogshit but not great. If that's "great on paper" no wonder we're absolutely fucked up the bottom!

Our best performance since Hughes was sacked happened without Lambert at the helm. That to me says it all. Which we lost 3-0. Six performances like that with Lambert and we would be 7 points and 18 gd worse off than we in fact are. We get you don't like Lambert but don't look to justify it with abject bollocks.

We played some very decent stuff there, Ireland looked very good, and I'm sure we played 4-2-3-1? Either way, Eddie got a good game out of the lads. Lambert may have fixed our defensive issues, thank heavens, but at least at the Utd game there was an intent for the team to attack. He obviously sees no plans for Ireland at all. We absolutely have to try and start scoring 2 goals a game and just seal it, but it's just gonna be fighting for scrappy 1-0's and shit 1-1's. I appreciate the work Lambert is doing but it's not going to be enough (yet).

That is a part of the tactic isn’t it mate. We have to set out to win free kicks, corners and throw ins in danger areas. We have seen plenty of teams do it to us. The tactic also breaks up play and stops opposition momentum. We are not creating from open play and never will with the current personnel. If we don’t do this, we are lemmings heading for the edge of the cliff.

Try implementing a flux capacitor into your plans, I hear they are quite effective I was thinking of pre heating the space around the ship with microwaves.........it might not work but at least you could chill out with a few bears and a roast alien or two^ PS Must copyright that idea before Mcdonalds put it on a burger.

You win your free kicks and throws in our half first. We watched TP teams do it for years. It is relatively simple to work right up the touch line with throw after throw after throw. We ensure our out balls are always going to cause some sort of challenge for the ball. Shaq is clever enough to win multiple free kicks just as Ric did. It is all very basic stuff.

20% chance of making it to 35pts 95% chance of that not being enough = 0.000000001% chance of survival Please advise how you make that calculation.

Don't try to argue with a footballing mind second only to that of Sol Campbell. It's true though. We played better football there and created more than we have under Lambert in easier games. It just shows that he didn't need to go as negative as he has done.

Haha there was. We created more chances in that game than we have in about 4 under Lambert. It showed the way forward. I dont think I can remember a 3 nil loss I enjoyed so much. Partly because I barely cared. Nobody seemed to. We played well going forward, very free, created lots of chances and completely failed to score any of them. At the other end we also defended with a familiar carefree abandon that saw us get well beat.

20% chance of making it to 35pts 95% chance of that not being enough = 0.000000001% chance of survival The club/fans/players/manager and everybody to do with Stoke City are suffering from a woeful case of inertia at the moment. I would not be surprised if we had all 11 men behind the ball against Everton and everybody ejaculating when we hang on to get a point. We now have a team that can defend better as a unit, but have no threat whatsoever going forward and no idea how to win a game of football. At the moment it is a case of try to defend well and hope something happens at the other end. We are at the stage where we need to make something happen ourselves and not hope something falls our way - Swansea manager stated he has his team playing Rock n Roll football at the moment. His team may end up winning a trophy and from nowhere now look like they are cantering toward safety. We have to throw off the shackles to and stop playing like we must not lose - and bloody well go for it a bit more and show a bit more ambition and creativity. We literally have nothing to lose - at what stage do we realise this, I hope we are not waiting for the last 2 games of the season like the O/P stated If we threw caution to the wind with the leakiest defence in the league we would already be adrift with West Brom. Lambert has made us harder to beat and kept us in touch. We can throw caution to the wind in the last 4 or 5 games knowing we now have a defence that might be capable of seeing games out. He deserves credit for keeping our chance of survival alive even if the odds don't look great. Not saying throw caution to the wind, but we have to be a bit braver at certain times. A good example was last week against Leicester when we had a corner in the dying embers of the game and we did not commit men forward. Presumably, the theory being we did not want to get caught on the break - but we have to be more positive than that surely, we need to change that mindset if we are to even stand the slightest chance of survival. I agree I think our new manager deserves a lot of credit for getting us organised though

A player the previous regime had way too much faith in. And imagine creating chances, oh to dream!
