Lingard to start at the World Cup? Suppose he'd have a case if he carries on scoring and Alli continues to underwhelm? He's certainly looking like a definite for the squad.
Lingard has to start at this summer's World Cup Lingard might not be able to get into the United side but he should be nailed on for England. He is at the point now where he has to start for Gareth Southgate's side at this summer's World Cup.
When you watch what he is doing and the positions he picks up, you notice the intelligence that he shows - not only on the ball but with the runs that he makes off it.
Then there is the number of goals he is scoring - 10 in his past 18 appearances since the end of November - and you think how can he not start with the way he is playing.

In all honesty, I prefer the experience of watching the England games in the pub with mates and a few drinks and a laugh more than the actual football these days and I think that applies to a lot of people.
That said, I loved the U17s and U20s winning their respective WCs this year so I'm sure I'd get carried away if we did well!
Sadly, we won't!

Can’t wait. Panama, Peru, possibly Messi’s last chance. Germany, a brilliant France side. Will Belgium do anything? England have on paper their strongest side for a while and might even get out of the group. Shaq. Ndiaye and possibly Dioufy. Ramadan and Egypt’s first World Cup appearance for 28 years. Well sold, Tox!

Still remember the 98 Argentina game and Owen's goal. Watched it in The Tontine up Hanley. Always a bit tame at home, no matter how much I drink.

I have a shit sense of direction, though. I remember my dad raving about Banks's save years later, though. The first World Cup I can remember is 1974, and only bits of that one, yet oddly I remember the Poland qualifying game and their clown goalie!

There was a little discussion about the likely England XI on that James Richardson podcast yesterday.
They pointed out how odd it was that we were 3 months out and there was no real clarity about the formation (it's been hinted that he wants to play 3 at the back) or really any absolutely nailed-on starters apart from maybe Kane (and arguably Walker and Stones)?
If he plays 3 at the back, it's harder to fit Sterling in.
Rose isn't playing. Rashford isn't playing. Lallana isn't playing. Alli's playing badly. Is Lingard a starter? Has Wilshere done enough?
Normally you can name about 9 of the team.

Ah yes the unbeatable Jan Tomaszewski. if there is a miracle player, an over performing team, a red card idiot you can bet England will find them. We always do. Bit like a big version of Stoke.

Yeah looking forward to it. Can't beat a good world cup, thought the Brazil one was a bit of damp squid. That may have more than a little to do with our input. We can't do any worse than that this time around, we need to last more than 6 days after all. Plus all the old guard are well and truly dispensed with, it's a clean sheet, we should give them a chance.

He can't play Hart, can he? Henderson isn't playing regularly for Liverpool either. Even Stones has lost his place recently for Man City. You could argue the only guaranteed starters are Kane, Sterling and Walker.

You could argue the only guaranteed starters are Kane, Sterling and Walker. Yeah - maybe. It's a bit of a mess. Rose isn't really playing. Cahill isn't. Stones has been dropped. Jones is injured and isn't nailed on. Lallana hasn't got back in at all. Loftus-Cheek is still out for months. Winks isn't getting a game having been seen suddenly before Xmas as a possible starter in the actual XI. Rashford hasn't started since Christmas. Alli isn't looking good. He doesn't seem to know whether he's going to play Dier in midfield or defence. Wilshere is now being seen as the saviour, which says it all. There are even calls for McTominay! And Lingard is now being inked in after a good run. www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/england/to-make-england-world-cup-2018-squadAssuming he is going to go for a 3-4-3-type formation, as it stands, maybe he'll go for something like: Pickford Dier-Stones-Jones Walker-Henderson-Wilshere-Rose Lingard-Sterling Kane Squad: Butland Hart Trippier Cahill Maguire Bertrand Winks Oxlade Alli Rashford Lallana Vardy ..but it doesn't look exciting all of a sudden. Midfield is a wasteland.

Just think Pickford may have a slight edge at the moment, despite the fact Butland seemed a Southgate favourite. But who knows? www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/02/28/gareth-southgate-will-watch-nick-pope-weighs-giving-goalkeeper/Seems to be a suggestion Hart may not go, even as third choice - which seems sensible.
