Was just trying to remember those other seasons of sweaty-palmed calculator bashing and bottom clenching... it's a while since we've had a proper one that goes to the wire... my memory is fairly crap for this sort of thing but off the top of my head I can only really think of Ade getting his pecks out in front of the Boothen after making us safe against Reading - on the good side - and on the bad side that vile game against Man City when we both went down..
What others have we had down the years?

2003 was the last proper one and despite some histrionics on this message board we were 90% safe after the win at Coventry.
85 wasn't anything that vaguely resembled a relegation struggle.
97/98 was a catalogue of self imposed catastrophe. Even bearing in mind the impecunious state of the club there was error after error leading to our downfall.

Was at the Man City 2-5 but was too young to truly appreciate the significance of it all. Akinbiyi vs Reading was a great day. You could make an argument that 02/03 was Pulis' finest hour as our boss. Brighton drew 2-2 at already relegated Grimsby so we would've survived without the win, though I suppose if news had filtered through that we were losing it could've spurred Brighton to survival instead.

And if there was a single biggest factor in our 3-0 win against the baggies then that was it. Spoke to a few West Brom fans that night and every one of them said they hoped we’d win. It was fairly obvious their players felt the same way. They’d been in danger of relegation themselves until their win against Leeds made them safe. It takes a special kind of special to riot in the town of the team who they needed to do them a massive favour just a few days later. Daft twats. There was only going to be one loser the night we needed to beat West Brom to send Leeds down and prevent our own relegation, and that loser was Leeds. One of of my favourite, most memorable matches.

Even bearing in mind the impecunious state of the club there was error after error leading to our downfall. I've felt for a while that this season has a lot of parallels with that disastrous 97/98 season. There have been so many self inflicted mistakes and bad decision making that have led us to this position. That season we sold our best player in the summer (Sheron) and replaced him with cheaper players. Last summer we sold Arnautovic and replaced him with Choupo. We had a squad that contained a number of good players and should have been easily good enough to stay up but were led to relegation due to a combination of poor management, behind the scenes turmoil and lack of commitment from the players (97/98 we had the likes of Sigurdsson, Kavanagh, Thorne, Keen, Wallace, Griffin for a time who were all good/very good First Division players and should have been enough to keep us up). This season you could say similar with Shaqiri, Allen, Shawcross, Bauer and Butland. We've had plenty of poor management and bad decision making this season too and although the off field turmoil is nothing compared to 97/98 the shambolic managerial appointment process and the recent revelations about how we went about trying to sign a striker in January paint a pretty shambolic picture of what's going on behind the scenes. Both seasons were characterised by a number of exceptionally poor and/or underperforming players who were so bad that they dragged the rest of the team down. 97/98 had Tweed, Stewart, Nyamah, Pickering, Muggleton and a load of dire loan players like Tosh McKinley, O'Neill Donaldson and Neville Southall. This season we have Wimmer, Tymon, Johnson, Berahino, Fletcher and pretty much all our striking options. Both seasons have had a 7 goal thrashing and numerous gutless capitulations. I'm just hoping Lambert doesn't tick the next box of failed fist pumping mid season managerial replacement like Kamara.

Crumbs, when you put it like that, we may now have stars of the world stage rather than perennial home grown 2nd flight players, but many of the characteristics are indeed the same. I don't have a great feeling about where all this is heading

I saw Ronnie Allen after the game giving an interview to their local radio being indifferent to their rubbish performance. I wondered, and still wonder now, if because of the scale of violence at the Hawthorns, WBA just took a dive against us.

I've always been convinced they threw the match, or at least weren't concerned enough to put themselves out too much to stop us. I can even vividly remember an incident in the second half where one of their centre halves 'accidentally' headed the ball at an angle straight into the path of our winger for him to have a run on goal. It looked odd enough at the time for me to think it was deliberate. I think Leeds (the club and their fans) reaped what they sowed that night.

That season in particular is on my mind and is why I'm convinced we are going down. The key indicator is always the lack of character in the team, the thrashings, and losing games where you have taken the lead.

The only real relegation battle I remember in any real depth was in the Quitterill season, I honestly thought we were finished after getting turned over 6-0 by a bang-average Nottingham Forest team, and was actually worried we might not be able to compete or even survive back in what is now League 1. The worst thing? - it took us 4 long years to get out of what was then Division 2, even though we were in the play-offs 3 years on the bounce, And I honestly thought we would be comfortably mid-table. I suppose I underestimated what went on behind the scenes after Gudjon got sacked, even though the spine of that team was similar to the one that came up. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle in my opinion - I will always admire TP for that feat alone, never mind the heroics from loan signings Ade Akinbiyi and Mark Crossley.
I vaguely remember getting relegated in the first season at the Brit, but I was only 7 at the time. I'll also discount our first season in the Prem and TPs last season as we managed to survive relatively comfortably in the end.
