I thought Crouch played well first half set us away twice with clever flicks hit the bar and the keeper saved one .
When he was in the team i had raised my eyebrows as i thought Diouf a better option.
As the game went we werent forced back and took the game to them.
But whatever he and Chopo should have been off on 60 mins for Ramadan and Diouf.It stuck out a mile they just pushed right up,good tacticts on their part.
Ill give the manager benefit of the doubt but it was a mistake in my view not making the subs then.

It is not his mistake to play for 82 minutes, he did his best but he cant be fit physically like 24-25 years old player.
he is the best sub in Stoke City and may be in the entire league, using him the wrong way is not his problem.

It's fine margins. Had his header gone in rather than hitting the bar then the decision could be said to be justified. This forum loves a scapegoat and now its Crouch's turn. Trouble is there are not many alternatives. Diouf tries hard but has the technique of a baby elephant and Saido is a busted flush. At least N'Goy scored today!

They’d clearly been working on some interplay between Stretch and Stumpy and it created a few good opportunities.
I thought we looked good with Pete. He’s always difficult to play against and as we all know there’s more to his game than just a target man. However, by minute 60 we were under increased pressure and it was time for some pace at that end of the park.

The Crouch slating on here is agenda driven by some who just don’t like him never have and try to use daft logic to justify that prejudice.
What they don’t get is why managers use target men
A team like ours needs an out ball when the defence or Jack are under pressure particularly away from home.
People on here are obsessed with pace. Are Diouf or Berahino going to win headers from A Ryan clearance or a Jack goal kick?, No it would come straight back.
You hold it up and bring others into play. It worked great in the first half yesterday with Choupo-Moting and Shaqiri particularly running off Crouch.
You then have the set piece threat. Crouch hit the bar from one. You then have the aerial defensive ability. Crouch cleared numerous corners away .
It’s why Conte used Pelle for Italy and why he got Giroud.
It’s why Brighton use Glen Murray who is 34 by the way.
Of course if you have pace and height like Lukaku or Aubameyang it’s ideal. But they’re £70 million. Drogba was a great example.
We don’t have that and Diouf and Berahino aren’t really quick and have awful touch.
I fully understand why Diouf was dropped yesterday. Unless he scores he offers the team nothing.

Agree, it's not about Crouch as a person or player, it's about playing him in a situation that doesn't work. Crouch still has a lot to offer in my opinion, but when he is played in a game that doesn't suit him, the blame lays firmly at the managers door. |
