How good would it be, if new Loving Cup’s were presented by the Club? It’d help to foster good relations, and not least of all boost our pottery industry.

Very poignant story...good spot sir!
I'd always known about our own tradition but never the story behind it, or how far it spread

Rangers came and played a game with us to raise money for a local colliery disaster. It was our gift back to them...

Short version: there were two left, and in the year they were created, 1937, there was a disaster at Holditch colliery with 30 men killed. Rangers came to Stoke to play a benefit match, and helped raise about £1800 (a lot in '37) Rangers were given one of the Loving Cups on condition they made the "loyal toast" prior to the first game each year...and they still do, as do all the other clubs Enjoy the story with little'un Cheers

My Grandfather was a deputy in the pit, which entailed detonating coal out of the face. He was buried in coal at least twice & on one occasion my grandmother was told he was dead, yet he still went back to work. He definitely ha a bit of PTSD about him.

Went Rangers a few years ago and saw we were Stoke fans, invited us in, gave us a tour and were very proud to show us the loving cup. Told us they hold Stoke in very high respect and Stoke are always welcome there.

I know a Stokie who has the after match dinner menu, with both teams signatures on it. An amazing bit of memorabilia.
