Stoke and work permits never seem to work out. For that reason, I say we look for a player that's achievable. Like Sergei Shtaniuk - you mean?

Is this guy positionally aware enough to play along side Joe Allen? What you can do on the ball and how far you can run a match is only part of the game, this guy seems to run around leaving space just like Joe.
Seems more a replacement for Joe than a companion, to me. Unless we still get an M'Vila or Guilavougi type who sits behind them holding the midfield so teams dont just walk through the middle.

Off the top of my head I suspect we are about the same as most middle/lower ranking Prem and Championship clubs over the years. I reckon the top 6 Prem clubs do better than the rest - but they are fishing in a different pond.

Am I not getting this? Yes of course we need a DM but this guy if I’m reading it right and please correct me if I’m wrong?
He has not played since August and was bought for 7.5€ and now they want 20m€?
Don’t we need someone to hit the ground running who has been playing?

If there are permit issues involved, hopefully the wheels are moving if Lambo has given Carto the green light. Having read the WP criteria I don’t see how he’ll get one

I think he'd have a strongish case on appeal, given the fee we'd be paying.
If we really are pressing ahead with it, we must think he's got a decent chance

If we really are pressing ahead with it, we must think he's got a decent chance Sorry I don't have good knowledge about this subject, I thought the work permit criteria requires regular international appearances? On 25 August 2013, English Premier League club Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Willian for a fee of £30 million, subject to a work permit hearing on 28 August 2013.[38] The deal was made official on 28 August 2013 and Willian signed a five-year contract, receiving the number 22 shirt.[39] Although regulations usually state that non-EU players must be regular internationals, Willian was given a work permit despite only having two caps at the time, as an FA panel deemed that if were he not Brazilian he would be a regular.[40] Should always bring this up at these kinds of hearings, if he wasn't Brazilian he would of had more caps what an absolute load of bollocks!

We won't get far then, this lad can't get picked for senegal! So we would need a compelling reason for his lack of international appearances

If we really are pressing ahead with it, we must think he's got a decent chance Sorry I don't have good knowledge about this subject, I thought the work permit criteria requires regular international appearances? Yeah -that's for an automatic permit I think. Although Senegal are ranked as high as 24, he apparently doesn't meet the appearances criteria of playing in 60% of their competitive games over the last 24 months (I can't find detailed records stretching back that far but the very fact the issue has been raised indicates he doesn't fit the criteria) uk.soccerway.com/teams/senegal/senegal/1941/Although he has featured in 3 of their last 5 World Cup qualifiers www.danielgeey.com/the-foreigner-debate-the-fas-new-work-permit-regulations-explained/But, on appeal, they take into account the fee and wages he'd be on amongst other things. And if we go towards 20m euros, that'd put him in with a chance you'd think?

Sorry I don't have good knowledge about this subject, I thought the work permit criteria requires regular international appearances? That’s right around 50 percent of games possible He has 16 caps and play 8 this year out of 17 games so he is playing in around 50% of games and they have qualified for the world cup and were quarter finalist in the African Nations Cup so they are a decent team. I would expect him to qualify unless he gets excluded on the Stoke city rule.

Looks like a sure thing. Has always played and contributed at every club he's been at. In his prime. A good signing on the face of it if it happens

Given the time constraints (note to Carto: it's not Jan 1st), we need to be pretty chuffing certain of getting a permit, otherwise we can all see what'll happen:
deal done
(subject to permit)
no permit
oh merde.
So you would hope that we have - and are progressing - other targets accordingly.

14 million is more than I'd thought we'd pay for a player like that.
Biggest worry as mentioned above is how disciplined he is. We already have one defensive midfielder who runs around the pitch like a kid at breaktime, another one would make it so easy to walk through us.
