Excellent read and an even better reason to push the boat out to get him

Good read. Remember thinking the same when I read a similar article on Sparky and his team a few years back.

Good read. Be great to get him. Don't think he will suit Mr Burns though.

Good article.
Watched a replay of the Derby v Man U game and derby were well set up, defended well , looked good with the ball and to be honest did not look like Championship side.
Nothing to do with this article but with our defense at the moment , I just they had of moved quicker and got big Sam.

The key word in all of that is pace and we dont have any of it

The key word in all of that is pace and we dont have any of it Definitely a concern. Looking at Derby this year they've pretty much been 4-4-2 not much possession and sitting deeper looking to pick teams off on the break. To do this obviously you need quick, direct players. Only Diouf potentially fits that criteria. Will be very interesting how he sets us up (if he comes of course!)

What bit of that wouldn't fit a description of Pulisball?

"Both of Rowett’s first two clubs – Burton Albion and Birmingham City – had a weaker squad comparative to their league adversaries"
We wouldn't even need to sign anybody in Jan!!

no doubt if he comes that after a few defeats the majority on here will be telling him they know better...

Was exactly what I was thinking Linx.It would work for us right now and he may have a eye for some cheap championship strikers.

Seriously though, that's a fascinating article, thanks for the link.
It does make you wonder what he would make of the squad with the distinct lack of a) pace to implement a counter attack set up or b) strength in depth of positions like full back c) lack of a "strong" forward to play the counter attack off (Crouch maybe but could he keep up with the play... Diouf would be questionable if he technically could be capable)

Im a bit MEEEEHHH after reading that.
It is what we need right now, but clearly he has been at teams that were punching above their weight based on the quality of player available at the time.
Sounds a bit like Pulisball all over again. What will he do with the likes of Shaq & Choupo?

Not sure I'd be up for it as a long-term thing.

Agreed, I'd be absolutely fine with either of those, anything with plenty of pace and power. The home performances do sound a bit porridge-y at Derby.

I don't think Guardiola could do anything here without strengthening the squad 😬 Hughes allowed it to be so threadbare our arse can be plainly seen hence numerous thrashings we've received

Sounds a bit like Pulisball all over again. What will he do with the likes of Shaq & Choupo? I agree totally. But dunner forget that Pulisball always incorporated the skillful winger or two (Pennant and Etherington), as well as the maverick striker (Fuller) to complement his otherwise stolid journeymen footballers. So Shaq and Choupo (even a prodigal and re-energised Bojan) might fit quite well. My main concern is that it just reverts us back to somewhere we hoped we had left behind.

What bit of that wouldn't fit a description of Pulisball? After 5 years of being in the Premier League under Pulis, his football was stodgy and defensive and no-one in the starting eleven had any pace whatsoever. Crouch up top with Walters and Ethers either side, remember? To play to Rowett's strengths, we'd have to bring in a pacey, powerful central midfielder to play alongside two of Fletcher, Allen and Cameron and then have Shaq and another winger behind Diouf or, ideally, a new striker. It's a big ask but we're not a million miles away.

Its a very good article & he has a tried & trusted way of setting up his teams. My main concern would be that it has worked quite well at the level he has been at but the premier league is a big step up & he would be found out pretty quick by cleverer managers & players. Would he be able to adapt by having a plan B.
