A cup run, at least 45 points. And some good signings in January. Not loan signings....

The question assumes that he is capable of change and can come up with some fresh ideas. I haven't seen much evidence of that at all.

In answer to the OP I'm afraid that ship has sailed and even if he stayed and we avoided relegation I'd want him gone as soon as the season was over - there is no way back as far as I'm concerned..........
That said, if he did the decent thing and resigned he'd gain my respect.......

To win me over he needs to complete the following list
Admit wing backs is a fantasy of his that won't ever come off and apologize for putting us through it
Recall Bojan and immediately put him in behind Saido
Release Wimmer
Recall Imbula and unlock the talent that he is
Get Fletcher to retire
Beat Man Utd
Win our next 3 home games
And come out and issue a statement that Arnautovic is a massive cunt and we're going to do everything we can to break him in half when we play West Ham next.
Failing that, just fuck off

Just hope that Sparky doesn't become a hate figure in the coming weeks. In my opinion he doesn't deserve that.

Safety and a cup run into semis at least. Beating Man Utd on the 15th would be a good start. If all those things happen it would assume a decent window, good style of play and back to 4 at the back. I’d then keep him.

Part of me still wants Hughes to stay. But he has to win the remaining games that, in previous seasons, we would have done. I don't think the Man Utd game is relevant to our season, but I don't think we can handle another mutli-goal pasting. We could do with a cup run as well.
If we can drag ourselves back to midtable - by beating those around us - and still be in the cup by end of February, I reckon the heat will be off. But this season, the league is more of a challenge: the top six are predominant and not giving much away, while the bottom twelve are too closely packed together. Win a couple and you're midtable; lose a couple and you're bottom five.

- Knowing what is the best team and formation is and sticking to it, bar injuries and players being unavailable. - Not spieling out the same clap-trap game after game. Say we've been fucking shit and get on with it, a la Big Sam. - Some decent signings that look like we know what we are doing in the transfer market. No more "Jeses". - A swift turn around in results, namely a comprehensive beating of Coventry and a draw or better at the shit. - Looking like you are interested in the game being played rather than sitting down and reading Twitter during the game.
A tall order from where I'm standing.

To win me over, he needs to resign with good grace and allow the club to move forward. Then I can fondly remember the good times under him, the BMX wins and Stokealona, rather then the disastrous back three experiment and the poor man's Pulis he has latterly become.

To win me over? Well he is doing it already.
If he were to resign, and give the hierarchy a scapegoat, that would disappoint me immensely. At the moment I think he slowly but surely winning fans round to the idea that the experts in the transfer team are the guilty party here. He is not doing this for the fans but for the media at large. He is a proud man.
Should he be sacked, well that, to me, would indicate that the hierarchy have been "found out", and being "found out" is the last thing that the hierarchy want. Their self sufficiency plan failed.
The problem is that the hierarchy have lost this battle, with no place to go. They have no options at all now.

The best thing he could do is announce his resignation and confirm he is taking Scholes and Cartwright with him.
Staying on is now damaging his reputation.

It is so sad to see there are people seriously replying to this with "nothing" or "resign".
We clearly need new players. Not 11, 2 or 3 solid signings would be enough. Staying up will do for me given our current squad and position but I would be a bit disappointed with 17th. If we dont get them then we are in for a very difficult second half of the season no matter who is picking the team and if he keeps this current squad up he deserves a new contract.

Realistically what would he have to achieve in his current role this season to gain your support? Win the FA cup? 5 game winning streak? Etc Etc Doing the decent thing and resigning. He's clearly lost the plot and the team. If he had anything about him he'd admit he's no longer up to it and go.

It's fair question that deserves a fair answer.
Hughes would get back my support if he can turn the results round and finish the season firmly in the top half of the table. Just escaping relegation is not good enough, and I think we have a bigger priority in Prem survival than an FA Cup run. I don't want us to get knocked out of the FAC early, I do want us to use it to practice things to get teamwork better and try young players to see if they are ready to be tried in the Prem.
We desperately need to strengthen the squad, in no particular order: 1. Edwards is doing OK but we need another good RB and we need a LB. 2. We need a defensive mid-fielder who can hold the ball and pass accurately, we have been weak at this since N'Zonzi left, Fletcher looked OK s to start with but has lost it. 3. We need a genuine right winger or RWB. 4. We need to ship out the failures and players who are past it, or are not up for the battle ahead. I don't want to see players like Allen and Adam losing heart because some idle sod doesn't care. Would that we could work the wizardry again of swapping a Jones for an Odemwingie x 3.
Any players we get need to be able to straight into the first choice XI not squad players and above all they need to have character and determination to overcome any difficulty.

Pause for thought. Perhaps we need this kind of man at the helm. A man of integrity who rises to challenges. We're still here..
"When Hughes made his Man United debut, the club's forward partnership consisted of 27-year-old Irishman Frank Stapleton and 18-year-old Norman Whiteside from Northern Ireland, and breaking up that partnership would not be an easy challenge for Hughes. But Hughes quickly broke into the first team, partnering Frank Stapleton in attack while Norman Whiteside was switched to midfield to partner Ray Wilkins and stand in for the injury prone Remi Moses. The departure of Wilkins to Milan at the end of the season saw manager Ron Atkinson decide to stick to using Whiteside in the centre of midfield, enabling Hughes to keep his place in the first team ahead of new signing Alan Brazil, and he was rewarded handsomely as he scored 25 goals in 55 matches across all competitions as United achieved an FA Cup final victory over Everton. They also finished fourth in the league."
That kind of resolve. And an Odemwingie type loan, or someone from within the ranks to step up... Football.

I don’t think there’s anything he could do to fully win me back over.
However the following would help me to back him for the rest of the season.
Signing a quality left back Signing a quality centre mid Signing a quality winger Signing a quality centre forward
Using these new signings, he would then need to deploy a 4-2-3-1 system with Shaq in the no.10 role
A fighting and spirited performance at old Trafford which shows organisation & a will to win
Followed by 3 wins out of 3 from Home and at least a draw away

A complete meltdown in the "post Coventry drubbing" emergency board meeting next week, whereupon he produces an axe and chases Carto and Scholes around Clayton Wood. All three end up getting sectioned (rather too literally in regard to Scholes and Carto) Even then PC will give Hughes a little more time to sort out this little bad run of luck we're having

Now that'll win me over. Then I'll consign his memory to the archive filed 'managers who start well, but just end up out staying their welcome ' He'll be in good company with Brian Little.

Butland Edwards Shawcross Zouma Pieters Allen New CM Ramadan/New LW Shaq Choupo New ST
The striker has to be a lukaku/Benteke type striker than do it all. E.g hold it up, play on the shoulder etc
CM needs to be a Cameron upgrade, his legs and distance covered along with more tackling and better passing/ball retention.
The winger should be someone physically imposing to help cover for shaqs lack of defensive cover in the middle of the pitch.
He should bring Bojan, muni and Imbula back off loan and let Ireland, Fletcher and Johnson go
