Wouldn't be surprised if an actual whippet didn't have pace if he trained with our lot Well lets put it this way we have so many players who aren't up to the job physically it would be bloody hard work to look bad in training. I just think Hughes has bottled it after throwing him game after game when he clearly wasn't ready

The only thing I can't get my head around is the way we play clearly isn't working so why not try something else, though to be honest with our midfield he's pretty much boxed himself in it isn't fit for any style of football other than seniors.

As we stand he'd have to compete with Diouf for the starting striker position for me. I'd be instructing the deeper players to hit them much earlier and play the ball in front of them not in to feet. The key to getting any player of movement(doesn't have to be outright pace instinctive movement works the same) away is doing things early, if you do things slowly like we do you are allowing defences to mass then you need battling qualities, strength, height, physical presence.

Has Berahino ever played with Charlie Adam?
Until he gets some games with someone who is prepared to play the ball forwards early, then we are never going to know if he actually does have pace, or if he makes decent runs into space.
By the time our regular midfield plays a forward pass there is simply no space to run into.

I'm on board with your thinking I'd just prefer it to be anyone other than Charlie Adam making the early passes he needs a slide rule passer Ozil style not hollywood Charlie 1 in a thousand good balls.

Seasonal greetings from a long suffering Baggie! The initial reason for WBA offering SB a new and improved contract was to enhance his transfer value, rather than the club being desperate to keep him, as the cracks in the relationship were starting to appear. However, the contract offer was withdrawn when Saido began his ill considered feud with Peace. The malicious nature of the owner meant that any transfer was refused to damage the player, even though it would have made good sense for all parties and good business, for him to leave. No Albion fan I know can understand why Hughes would want to buy damaged goods at such a high price in the Jan window, when SB was available for free just months later. Did he really think there was going to be a stampede for a guy already in decline? Incredible. Tell me something honestly mate taking off your WBA underpants for a moment! There was a time when he was really quite good, he had a god given ability (which you can't teach) to simply dunk a defender on his backside through some shimmy or other and slot the ball in to the back of the net. I used to crap myself when we came up against him, thinking we would make mugs out of us at any moment. I'm not completely imagining that am I? There was a time when he could really play and was genuinely a hot prospect? What I am saying is there was some good reason why we might think this transfer could work. I know it hasn't, but there was some rationale for thinking it might? Indeed there was such a time. He timed his runs, showed good technique and had the confidence/arrogance to shoot (accurately) with minimal backlift. When he was playing alongside Harry Kane in the U21's he looked like a kid with a real future. I and many others had visions of him playing at the top level for years. It is difficult to assess whether the guy's horrendous start in life has had long term effects on his psychology, even though he displays an outward veneer of confidence. What is beyond doubt is his inability to avoid issues which have impacted upon his career. If the latest story about him bypassing your grumpy Welshman to talk to the board is true, it will be history repeating. He has managed to upset every previous coach he was worked for, and I can't see Hughes being any happier than Toxic Tone if he has gone over his head. His previous choice of agent, who started (or allowed) all the bullshit stories must take some responsibility for his decline. And who allowed him to start a foundation and all the hoopla that surrounded it? His current agent seems equally inept. Sorry, but he looks like another Luke Moore.

Yes, good post, it is probably over. Once the thorny Welshman decides you are part of the problem rather than part of the solution there doesn't seem to be much coming back from there! See Bojan and Imbula, oh well, ÂŁ12m and a 5.5 year contract...ho-hum !

SCFC have not seen much of a return on the ÂŁ3M (and counting) wages have you? He will be qualifying for his yearly loyalty bonus next month.
Several Oatcake posters have alluded to his pace. He is quick, but no quicker than many other Greed League regulars.

These reports are quite astounding. Three years ago he was tearing defences apart with pace and finishing. Perhaps his drugs addiction has taken its toll both mentally and physically coupled with Hughes refusing to give him a decent run of games which looks like has affected his attitude. I think the last few games against teams around us would have been the ideal opportunit6 for one last roll of the dice. Throwing him in against Chelsea as his first start of the season is ludicrous.

Depends what direction you are coming from. A shit buy that he gets him in without having a setup that can get the best out of him defiantly. A good buy for the club if we sack the manager off and get somebody with a clue in, give the guy service he will score, a couple of goals with chances coming regular will have him hungry again I Think, a big confidence boost to push on. Look at us as a unit though we're crap, we don't offer sod all and by the time we are up there they are back in numbers

Then chucking the guy on for 5 minutes amongst that dross that doesn't play to his stre gths and expecting him to hit the ground running is just daft.
I've played football, I know that coming on as a sub can take you a while to get into the pace of the game, some days you do something early on that's good that spurs you on and other times it just doesn't happen. Berahino is coming on low in confidence alongside the footballing version of tripe

He can't wait to get on the pitch to show everyone exactly what he's about. He's probably tearing it up in training as well. I suppose if we say he's a good player, mismanaged, it's entirely Hughes' fault. However, if we accept he was a bit of a shit buy, Hughes can deflect some if not all of the blame onto the recruitment department. He's a crafty bastard Hughes and no mistake.

Iâm sick of hearing that âhis attitude is wrongâ, or âwe donât suit his styleâ
Guidetti, Bojan, Bony, Joselu, Berahino, NâGoy, JessĂ©, all have different styles. They all have different personalities. None has worked out for us over any extended period of time.
Bojan enjoyed the odd purple patch but have any of the others improved as footballers under Mark and the team?
