No, no we're not. He wouldn't be the one to turn this around. Victor Moses, Assaidi, Odemwingie, Etherungton, Pennant, Arnautovic, Diouf up front. Those are the types of players we are missing

N’Zonzi.
And 2x wing backs.
We would be a completely different proposition.

Glenn was superb for us, but what we need now are two fullbacks most of all! We also need a replacement for Fletcher who really has had a dip in his form the last 3 games! We need someone more mobile and quicker to play alongside Joe Allen, but with the same calmness as Fletcher. Thought Fletch started the season brightly, but hasn't been up for it lately in my opinion!

He was awful for a good 2 seasons before we got rid so, nah, of course we don't miss him. Not getting Lemina was the big blow as far as I'm concerned.

We're not missing him as a player but as a character and his professionalism he is irreplaceable. I've got no inside knowledge but he always seemed to set a very high bar for himself and expected the same of his colleagues. The incident with Faye where he allegedly offered him out because Faye wasn't taking things seriously enough speaks volumes about Whelan's mindset.
A true pro.

In his prime for sure but he was getting on a bit but we replaced him with an older player who isn't as good defensively and who has now started to give the ball away. It's a problem area

Whelan keeps on getting better for the Villa according to my mate. The glue in the middle and motm today v Ipswich.

Fletcher is a poor replacement - that is for sure He started ok but is now a liability. Every game he makes basic mistakes that put us in danger
However, Glenn and Glenda existed. Nzonzi is the key cog we have never addressed

I get less convinced by Fletcher all the time. He shows the odd touch of class from when he was in his prime, but he just keeps giving away the ball cheaply and conceding chances. I can see why West Brom supporters felt his legs have gone.
The centre of our midfield needs big money spending on it again.

Yes because fletcher is not the upgrade on recent form. Doesn't do the defensive dirty work better and on the ball he has been poor of late.

His replacement certainly is not an upgrade that is for sure, he needed upgrading if we were to let him go we let him go and downgraded.

We are terribly missing Whelan.
Fletcher is a pale imitation defensively and is forever losing the ball in dangerous positions.
We also miss Glenn’s aggression and desire to win.

We don't need Glenn as such to come back to the club, because the player who did so well for us for his first eight seasons here doesn't exist anymore. the last 1½ year he was struggling and he's mostly struggled at Villa, as far as I know. I think it broke his heart that he was just let go; I feel he had expected to end his playing days here.
Allen and Fletcher plus Cameron were all bought to either lessen his burdens at the time or to replace him. None of them has.
What we do need badly is someone with his leadership qualities. Both Fletcher and Shawcross are good people but they're both too quiet. Whelan was a non stop running commentary, always lashing out if he felt someone wasn't giving their 110%. I credit Glenn with improving Nzonzi, who was a bit lazy when he first came here. If you look at him now at Sevilla he is the spitting image of Glenn, well not exactly, but you can see who influenced him.
We don't have anyone with those qualities in the current team.

Some of his comments lately has been making he needs to keep them to himself Adam is no fool. He knows exactly how to push Hughes’s buttons and get himself transfered in January without putting in a formal transfer request. That way Stoke have to pay him the balance of his contract and he gets a nice signing bonus from the club that buys him. Criticize the boss in public and you’re out!

We miss Cameron more than anybody. Versatile and gets about the pitch.
Formation for me has to be 4231
Zouma Ryan BMI Pieters (begrudgingly) Cameron Afellay Diouf Shaqiri Choupo Anyone.
Allen and Fletcher are like rabbits in headlights. There's a case to argue Allen should get in, but Cameron mops up well and Afellay is the best player on the ball we have.

N’Zonzi. And 2x wing backs. We would be a completely different proposition. Listening to Phil Thompson on soccer Saturday saying Seville got better when they took nzonzi off at half time against Liverpool as he was slowing them up and taking them sideways and backwards.

We're not missing Whelan on the pitch. Maybe off it. What we are missing is an NZonzi type. Someone physically strong but can pass a ball as well as mix it. Glen was a great servant but we'd be no better with him.
