Think he might well make a good manager one day but it’d be one hell of a gamble. I think it's worth it. There’s a lot we don’t know though. How does he like his teams to play? What’s his man management like? Distinct lack of experience. Having been a top player doesn’t count for much. He’d give it everything though and his punditry work is first rate.

Why him particularly? I'm intrigued. He's young. Played under one of the best managers. Experience at a top European club. I like how he analyzes games. I think he'd have great support. I think we're a club where he can succeed similar to how other young managers came and made an impression in the Premier League. Let's adress these one by one.. 1) why does age matter to you? 2) yep he's definitely played under a great but plenty have before and not gone on to make good managers. It could be good but it's not full proof and a reason to hire somebody imo. 3) "experience".. That's one word for it, he bombed. 4) again, plenty of pundits are good at analysing the game but management is a lot more than tactics. No one knows what he'll be like dealing with players on a day to day basis and in the transfer market. 5) great support, from who? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Contacts?

Contacts? 1) I feel everyone has their "Time" and that comes with young age. As Wenger gets older he's slowly regressing, same happened with Ferguson. 2) I agree, but it's still experience learning under the best and that's better than nothing. 3) Failure is still an experience and probably the most important process for success. 4) The way he talks about the game gives me confidence as a fan, but yeah it's different to being a manger. 5) Friends/Colleagues/Fans

I remain in the Hughes camp but are people really suggesting that there is a lack of credible candidates who would come and work for very well regarded owners in the biggest league in the world?
There are still many reasons why I think we should stick with Hughes a while longer yet but a lack of credible alternatives isn't one of them. Its a ludicrous notion.

It would be a huge gamble for Stoke to employ a manager who was not proven as a Prem. league manager. My view is let the other clubs take that gamble.
That is not to say simply going for experience is the answer either. Managers like Moyes, Dyche, Bruce, and others who have enjoyed success have also taken clubs down.
Apart from less spending power than the big 6 clubs, Stoke have the major handicap of "Who would want to play for Stoke?". If you can't get a place with a big 6 club, then most players would prefer to go to a big club like Newcastle, Everton, Villa, Leeds, etc. or a London club. Stoke can offer the attraction of a Prem L football and a home in Cheshire, but there is little else to attract a player, most of whom would prefer to go to a club with a "history" like WBA, Wolves, Sunderland, or even Leicester nowadays.
One attraction Stoke does have is Mark Hughes. An outstanding player and very successful manager who only dropped into the bottom half of the Prem in last full season for the first time. Has averaged 10th place in his 4 seasons at Stoke. He has attracted a number of CL players to the club, which few other managers could do.
I don't believe there is a proven better manager and who would accept a job at Stoke. Those on their way up are looking for jobs at bigger clubs than Stoke. Why should a manager take a sideways move, to a club with a relatively small following? Do we want a "mature" manager who is approaching the end of his career? If we are in a relegation battle then yes, that might be appropriate as CP have done; a stop gap to stop the rot and secure their Prem. place, then they will be after another manager.
I am not arguing that MH is an ideal manager. There are numerous failings such as too slow to move on the "old guard" (although some even criticised selling Whelan and Walters), too many rusty players who have been out of the previous club sides for too long, too many players with poor injury records, a poor record at set pieces, lack of fitness at the start of the seasons, generally poor teamwork and lack of balance in the squad, and questionable substitutions. There are probably more criticisms, but there are differing views on issues. For example Pulis gets players super fit to start the season, but everyone goes on holiday when 40 points is achieved.
I'm quite confident Hughes has his plans and that some things just don't go to plan. There does seem to be some serious errors of judgement on the very expensive players signed. But for all the short comings, I do not believe there is a better manager to be had, and I am strongly opposed to letting him go and taking a huge gamble on a manager with no experience or is past his sell by date. Maybe Hughes has "lost it", but I would want more evidence. Last season we were a couple of points off the top half of the Prem and we have got 8 point from our first 8 games which is more than most of the people thought, who have no faith in him. They have been proven wrong so far this season, just as they were proven wrong during the transfer window when they complained that Everton, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Palace were leaving us behind in transfer business. I am confident they will also be proven wrong at the end of the season.

My reference to WBA related to their much more successful history with 5 FA Cup wins. Stoke's attendance has been greater than WBA since we got back into the Prem. It has held up well with the freezing of prices, but historically WBA attendances have been bigger, it just depends on what period you look at. Personally I think Pulis's management at WBA is suppressing and even alienating their support.

Personally I don't think any prospective managers, players or buyers would be bothered by, or even aware of, West Brom winning a cup or two more than us in the middle of the last century. They'd more than likely view us as similar sized clubs with equal potential. Which is what we are. Cups won that long ago mean nothing now, look at Bury, Preston or Blackpool.

We had the chance to at least speak to Silva in the summer but the guys behind the scenes bottled it. Honestly I’d take anything over Hughes at the moment, I’d be thinking sacking season is coming up so I’d take Big Sam or Koeman (I don’t know how realistic that last suggestion is) Well for what its worth I heard this morning . Allardyce allegedly declared his non interest in the Scotland job early and changed his i don't want a job stance because he allegedly has a whiff of a job at a struggling premier league club that meets his criteria . 1 location ( has to be close to his north west base ) 2 Has to be a proper club with sound and stable ownership and funds 3 Has to be able to bring own back room staff and have final say on transfers 4 If it's England has to be premier league 5 Has to pay him what palace were . Not saying it's us as we are notoriously prickly around budget , transfers and salary, Everton fit the bill , we do , Leicester ? just about geographically , Burnley if Dyche moves on , ( but they aren't struggling ) but there is a definite change in the public stance towards another job well somebody knows their stuff that job was definitely being touted around over the weekend to interest parties , question is did they beat us to the draw

The evidence of yesterday points to something very different , watch and learn watch and learn my old foe , there are a number of positions being taken on premier league Jobs plural is what the grapevine says this s the first move over the weekend people plural were tested on appetite and availability for at least one job . My view on the basis of opportunities arising with i hasten to add no information too support it from anyone at stoke city is if we want Allardyce we need to move quickly as he may have choices to make shortly , leicester might just be too far ( but money talks ) and too unstable , for him whether they want him or not , if we don't no issue

For me he doesn't have a grip on the players behavior
He has great knowledge of the game but sometimes his team doesn't turn up
With poch klop Sean dysche ,David wagner , you know everyone will give a 100 per cent win lose or draw
Obviously zero chance of poch or klop
I would go for David wagner

For me Hughes has 3 games to save his neck. Whether Leicester will move for big sam before then who knows. I can't see Sam going to a club that has unstable ownership like Leicester so if Mr Coates did show an interest in him I think he would take it. Stoke would give alladyce plenty of time to sort things out. I for one and hoping Coates does make the change, we have stagnated under Hughes and at least we may assemble a decent defence/ attack balance under Sam.

Id give him at least up until Christmas or maybe just the whole season (providing we don't appear to be in serious danger of going down of course). If it starts falling into the shambles of seasons past then surely the Board have to have a few discussions as to whether Hughes and Stoke have nowhere else to go?.
Probably be in the minority here but if he were to go then I wouldn't mind us taking a look at Sean Dyche. Worked wonders at Burnley and may look for a fresh challenge. Whether that would be Stoke is another matter but I believe he is the type of manager Coates would look at.
