Isn’t there a link with Gibbo from Butchers Arms? I’m sure he will be giving him good advice. Link? It’s his son mate.

Looking like we'll see Jack / Bauer down the right in the near future then? In the next 24 hours.

Have MLS clubs started their pre season yet?
New York's last game was on bonfire night.
And their season doesn't start until March.
So his fitness to play from the off may not be there.
But I hope he signs, bloody good player.

It does look a sensible kind of gamble at that price for an English 21-year-old - especially one with a great attitude Even if he never makes it here, hard to see it as anything but a worthwhile punt. Don’t disagree mate but I wouldn’t expect too much before the end of the season. My concern is that he will will end up on the bench or playing U23. He’s the main in NY along with Villa. All I care about is the lads happiness & that will be achieved by playing football. Yeah, fair point. Although his ability to play on the right could see him get meaningful minutes, possibly off the bench? Neither Choupo or Ramadan seem to be that comfortable there - and it would free up the option of using Shaq more centrally that's been hinted at. And then don't suppose you can ignore the pull of a the kind of contract that only Premier League teams can produce that would set him up for life! Medium-term, I think he's got as good a chance here as any other biggish club

I didn’t want to come across all “showy offy” Christ Johnny side undid us, the Blacks Head, in the Traders League. A really tidy team. I still tell my son the stories of how I could only compete with the Butchers Arms on a physical level. Mind you we dropped a rancid stink bomb in the changing rooms as revenge. I last saw his dad when I was coach at Keele Uni last year. They beat us again. Hope Jack signs so my sons can continue the stories.

Higher pay than regular players & if it doesn’t work out they put him back in uni and pay all fees. It’s not premier league but it’s a sweet deal.

He's supposedly on $165,500-a-year. Great money for a 21-year-old - but you'd think Stoke could maybe conservatively give him 5 times that? Guess that'd be pretty hard to say no to!

Looking at those MLS player salaries, Brek Shea is somehow picking up $670,000 from Vancouver and Kenwyne picked up over $400,000 in his final season pretty much without playing. And Stoke legend Demar Phillips picking up $162,000 in Salt Lake City! Jozy Altidore on 5m-a-year!

Nothing definitive - but think there was a line in one of Lambo's conferences that gave a sight hint in that direction - something along the lines of "I want him playing in attacking areas where I don't mind if he loses the ball" The system worked well yesterday, but would like to think that's where we saw him long-term

It is Shaq's best position but only if he has space to work in. Having Jack alongside him potentially would create space because of his pace. Sobhi won't work as a winger for this reason. That Shaq ok the right when countering works well I think because he is so rapid.

Not sure if young Harrison is suited for a relegation battle, but this is surely the kind of signing we should be looking to do with a long term perspective

I don't know if he's good enough to come in and make an impact straight away, or if he'll make it long-term. Hard to know if the MLS is Championship-standard, worse or better... But if you look at: his age the fact he's English the fact half his family would be living in Stoke, which couldn't help but be a benefit for him settling in the fact he's got a character reference from someone with the standards and standing of Lampard the fee (look what Everton had to pay for Ademola Lookman from League One) ..it does look a bit of a no-brainer at the kind of fee we're looking at paying + His wages will be low.

Yep - seems to be on something around £2500-a-week in New York. Total guess, but would he be maybe on something like £12-15k-a-week here as a starting point? Life-changing money for him, but very manageable for a Prem team.

I agree with getting Shaq more central, and Harrison may be the answer to that, but there is no No10 role in the 433 we played yesterday. We’d have to revert to 4231 to make that work, which Lambert has in the past.
Good to have options for different games though.

After that get Ben Brereton back and a defensive midfield enforcer and things are really, really looking well

I know there is a tendency to get carried away with these things but i am genuinely excited by this deal ( if it indeed is going ahead ), a young very talented English player for the kind of money being touted looks on the face of it an excellent piece of business.

Having Pirlo, Lampard and Villa as teammates in recent years can't have been a bad education! He looks like a good option to have.
