I’m sure there’s a rule against signing a player in one transfer window and loaning him out in the same transfer window

Once Man City were involved there was never going to be any other outcome they are effectively the same business organisation

Disapointing to say the very least.....
If this lad is as good as he looks, he would have provided perfect competition for the right wing, freeing up Shaq for the number 10 role.
Hey-ho, onward and upward (hopefully).

MLS or not, if we were able to take an England U21 player for £5m (or so) we would have absolutely robbed that league & Man City.
No surprise they blocked us tbh.

They did the same with Mooy. Bought him from an Aussie team and loaned him to Huddersfield. Then sold him at a profit. What’s to stop them doing this again and again and dictating where the players go to cause them the least amount of damage.

Harrison needs to have a bit of backbone and realise it’s highly likely this will be a bad move for his career. Choose Man City and it’s the first step on the path to the scrap heap occupied by the likes of Rodwell, Wright-Phillips, Sinclair, etc. Admittedly, we could all be wrong and he proves to have what it takes. Just would be nice to see someone back themselves to play regularly at a mid table club instead of heading for the bright lights and the cash and ending up a serial loanee. Im sure he and his parents realise the risk but theres only one thing that really matters is the cash that Man City will pay them. Every footballers' first big contract is a massive stepping stone. When he signs the contract with Man City he and his family will be set-up for life. If it was me I wouldnt give a toss if I never played another professional game in return for earning 30k a week for the next 5 years

Not just any Aussie team: Melbourne City, coincidentally (not!) under the same ownership as themselves and NYC....

Stoke have been used by the Yanks to leverage as much money as they can get out of ManC.

Disappointing for us but hopefully he can still make it & become a star for England.

The truth about the timeline of events will probably never come out but I'm not sure how the club can be really criticised here? A complicated deal made even more complicated by the appearance of Man City who are part of the same empire.
The whole thing stinks, lets just move on he wouldn't have been involved this season anyway......

The one I feel for in this is Jack as he clearly wants to come to us. Man City will potentially ruin his career as its highly unlikely he’ll ever make the first team. He does not have to agree the transfer to Man C. He could decide to stay where he is and run out his contract.Who knows? He apparently loves his lifestyle in the USA

Percy "But Paul Lambert has suffered frustration in his bid to sign New York City FC attacker Jack Harrison, who is joining Manchester City for a fee of around £5m. Harrison, an England under-21 international, was the subject of two bids from Stoke but talks collapsed over NYCFC's valuation - thought to be considerably more than the £5m Manchester City are paying.Middlesbrough are expected to then take Harrison on loan for the remainder of the season." www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/30/football-transfer-news-rumours-live-arsenal-manchester-united/

Thing is "having a bit of backbone" basically means a young player saying "no actually I'm not good enough" in the face of an extremely flattering offer from one of the world's richest clubs. We all know the chances are pretty slim that he'll make an impact at ManC but any ambitious young professional is going to back himself with an offer like that on the table.

I am not overly disappointed, but it would have been nice to have a "local lad" make it with Stoke.
We are lucky to have had Cameron; really good American footballers are few and far between and most of those that have succeeded in the Prem have done so because of reliability, consistency, dependability, character etc. rather than brilliance at the game. Maybe one day they will produce a really great footballer. Apart from a couple of useful GKs, Clint Dempsey is head and shoulders above anyone else and he only played for a CL club (Spurs) for one season. So Harrison is unlikely to be particularly special and, as I quoted the other day, Crouch says he really struggled for a long time when he joined a Prem League club (Villa) for the first time, despite being a highly promising young Championship player, so Jack would probably be of little assistance in the relegation battle we are in.
Apologies if that sounds like sour grapes.

Quite correct, I know, but I was effectively saying he wasn't good enough to play for a CL club, apart from his last season in the UK. You have to admit CL club players are generally a higher standard than the rest of the Prem. He was the only American player I could think of who has played for a CL club.

This is a really shitty episode, we bid more than ManC but ultimately they get the deal because of their ownership of NY. Not sure we can blame much on the pizza boys on this one. Sadly he is a real talent and would have been a good long term signing. You have to feel for the lad...ended up with 4 months mentoring by Pulis in a shithole of the North East.

I don’t really care about missing out on one player, what really pisses me off is that we keep complaining that we have a shit England squad and blame the foreigners yet the media won’t admit it’s due to these ‘big 6’ literally hording the young players and killing their careers. While thing sticks. Wish to god we could have a system similar to the NBA.
This type of bhullshit is why I am really starting to despise football

there should be a limit on how many players you can have on your books at one time, man city and Chelsea have ruined football in this country. Chelsea must have 30 players out on loan. now man city are buying everything insight,
