If Shawcy isn't ready are we going to be 442?

No good choices if he's out - only bad and very bad ones!
Got to be a back 4 , you'd think?

Likely he'll draft Pieters to the back-3, young Tymon as LWB (Diouf RWB) If Hazard and co are up for it I have a feeling Butland is going to be very busy - still a good chance to push his credentials (and price) still further

What about Cameron? he badly needs to be fit.

If Cameron can run, they might risk him. But can't really take risks with hamstrings, can you? They initially seemed to rule him out for tomorrow.
Can see Pieters as an option, but 3 lefties in the back 3 is far from ideal - and not sure Tymon is up to it.

I fear Shawcross's injury will drag on and on just like before I think the management team knew more than they're letting on when we signed 3 CBs in the summer. God knows how we'll line up with Cameron, Ryan and Zouma out. I'd go 4231 with a back 4 of
Diouf........Indi.......Wimmer........Eric
Don't think we have any other options. The selling of Bards with no replacement catching up with us.

Not good missing Zooooma, Ryan and GCam.
I would bring a kiddie in. Hughes needs to.

Isn't Edwards highly rated. I know it's not ideal but surely worth a run out. Bit of a baptism of fire though.

The selling of Bards with no replacement catching up with us. Why would we give Ryan a 4 year contract if we thought/knew he was going to miss large chunks of the season? Conspiracy theories such as this one, I suspect, are wildly inaccurate. On the game itself, Johnson can come in on the right side of a 3 or he can slot in as a conventional right back. I've avoided commenting to much on Tuesday but Johnson wasn't anywhere near as bad as many are making out. Granted he looked ragged at the end as the game got stretched but for large parts of the game he was absolutely fine given it was his first game in god knows how long. There were worse performances than his on the night.

Johnson right hand side of the back 3 it is then....

Definitely wouldn't be surprised if it was Johnson on the right of a three.
He played there at least a couple of times last season, didn't he?

Has to be a back four doesn't it? Playing 3 players who won't have played together as centre backs is a recipe for disaster, especially if one of them is Johnson and especially against Chelsea. I'd probably go:
GK Butland RB - Diouf CB - Indi CB - Wimmer LB - Pieters CM - Fletcher CM - Allen RW - Choupo LW - Sobhi CAM - Shaq CF - Jese

Et tu Kevin?
Injury blues for Potters
It seems Stoke will be without Shawcross, Cameron and Zouma for Chelsea match tomorrow, while Kevin Wimmer has a hamstring injury that could sideline him too.

We should avoid changing the shape. Wimmer and BMI as a CB pairing wouldn't fill me with confidence against Chelsea then we're faced with Diouf as a genuine FB.
Butland
Wimmer BMI Pieters
Diouf Allen Fletcher Tymon
Shaqiri Jese Choupo
It's a bit of a bonus game anyway. I'd be more annoyed dropping points against teams we're expected to do well against.

Injury latest...
Hughes: We are struggling on the injury front at the back. Shawcross & Cameron are out, Wimmer is struggling & Zouma can’t play against Chelsea.

If Wimmer's out, does Pieters come into a back 4 alongside BMI?

What are we 6 games in? And already our squad is looking paper thin. Jesus, the christmas period should be fun when we've got 12 players in the squad.

The irony is most were complaining we've too many top draw CB in August! I was thinking we could apply for an emergency recall of Sweeney but he's suspended anyhow - what a disaster!

What we don't want is Wimmer doing serious damage to his hamstring and limping off after 20 minutes - but I'm sure they're more aware of the risks than me....
And suppose needs must in this case....

Nightmare situation. I think Wimmer will be in though
Back 3 of Wimmer, Indi and Pieters
Diouf and Tymon in front (possibly Ramadan)
Allen and Fletch in midfield
3 from Jese, Berahino, Crouch, Shaq and Choupo up top
If Wimmer is not in we could go back to a 442 with Johnson at RB

3 left sided centre backs just can't/won't happen, surely?

www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-could-one-fit-515626Hughes's options, if Wimmer fails to make it, is to play his senior full backs Glen Johnson and Erik Pieters alongside Martins Indi at centre half if he still wants to play with three at the back.
That would leave Mame Diouf, available after being rested because of a recurring knee problem in midweek, at right wing back and teenager Josh Tymon at left wing back. His other alternative is to return to a traditional back four by playing either Johnson or Pieters alongside Martins Indi.
Either way, it leaves Stoke looking horribly stretched against a Chelsea side finding its form after a shaky start to the season.

If Wimmer, Zouma, Shawcross and Cameron are all out then surely we have to go to 4 at the back. I can't see Souttar getting the call up. Unless we go Tymon, Eric, BMI, Johnson, Diouf? But that defence wouldn't fill me with hope.
