I stand corrected. Forgot Cameron played RWB against West Brom. He was caught ball watching against Newcastle which is his biggest problem. He's a forward and used to defending what is in front of him. You can't do that as a full back. But mate, honestly, played well against Arsenal. He continually got caught under the ball. In fact his weakness was their best attacking threat And should have given away two penos. We were very lucky that game. Lucky when we win, shit when we lose. That's Bayern....

The only player from the Bristol game that should keep his place is Grant, and he is the most certain to be dropped.
Under no circumstances should we offer Johnson another chance to pick up a career that's already at a dead end. I'm close to saying the same about Adam, although he tends to find better form when the pitches get muddy.
I'd like Crouch to stay up front but only if the players can get their heads and feet around to the fact that he's a decent hand on deck, and that playing long balls to him is doing neither team nor player any favours.
I'd like Hughes to be a little (as in a little, not a lot) adventurous in his team selection.. It's probably true that the team will select itself, and Chelsea will expect that. They might be surprised if Ramadan was allowed to start a match from the start, or if Allen was allowed to reprise his goalscoring role. Chelsea's defenders definitely won't like it if they have to face Crouch. Those are three options that are open to Hughes to unsettle the Chelsea machine.
Will be very surprised if he strays from the straight and narrow tho.

This is a toughie, but I would go with
Butland Wimmer Shawcross Indi Diouf Allen Fletcher Pieters Shaqiri Crouch Choupo-Moting
Bench- Jese, Berahino, Ramadan, Grant, Adam, (*is Cam fit), Campbell
It doesn't inspire me to be honest but I don't see too many options

Really would be bloody marvellous to see Diouf up front but doubt it will happen in a million years. It would also be nice to see somebody whipping in crosses for him. It's a simple, yet effective tactic even in this modern era.

Jese played no minutes on Tuesday - I would be very surprised if he does not start on Saturday in the same front three as the last few league games.

I can't honestly believe people want Diouf at right wing back against Chelsea. He was at fault for the Newcastle goal. Was arguably at fault for the West Brom goal. Was awful against Arsenal. He works hard and is good going forward but his positional sense at the back is fucking awful. Any one or a combination of Hazard, Willian, Pedro and Alonso will tear him several new arseholes. Let's not be too harsh on him though, he's doing his best in a position completely alien to him and not being a sulky fucker about it. But I agree, I think it could be calamitous to play him there against this mob. The same applies to those suggesting Ramadan being dropped in there out of the blue... ...Just a shame we don't have many alternatives...

After Johnson's performance the other night, I shudder at his possible inclusion too. These days I shudder just at his name appearing on the list of substitutes! With everyone fit it really shouldn't do. This my guess at what Hughes thinks our best side; Butland Zouma Shawcross Wimmer Diouf Fletcher Allen Pieters Shaq Jese Choupo-Moting That should imo leave a bench of; Grant Indi Tymon or Edwards Cameron Ramadan Crouch Berahino It's going to fun when Afellay is back to see who misses out. The only player there he should be in for is Geoff and that's just because he should only be considered for central midfield. I'd prefer Geoff on there tbh. Tymon or Edwards need to be on there in case there is a chance to give them game time. And I'd rather see Edwards at right back over Geoff and Johnson anyway. For me though that bench is pretty well balanced.

With Indi on the bench you have the option of him or Wimmer moving over to full back if necessary so can't ever see Tymon featuring that much in the League, even on the bench. The other night he looked a bit overawed (as opposed to just crap like most of the others) and was taken off for that reason. Cameron is cover in three positions so will always feature which leaves Afellay as the next in line to get splinters in his bum. Can't see it any other way mate.

Agreed, he will use Geoff to cover right back (as well as centre back and centre midfield) and Wimmer/Indi to cover left back, so Edwards and Tymon would be highly unlikely to feature on any full strength bench. Afellay will take that spot once fit, as he does offer something different in the middle of the park by way of ball retention skills, which may well be needed to close out games.

He wasn't at fault for the West Brom goal (still not seen the Newcastle goals if I'm honest). And he certainly wasn't awful against Arsenal in fact he played well. Oh and if we're talking goals let's not forget the one he put on a plate for Choupo Moting against ManUre. He'll negate the threat of Alonso better than any other player who could potentially play that role..... In fact his weakness was their best attacking threat Their best attacking threat was the same as all teams against us, get past the midfield easily, draw the centre halves to the ball and chip it over the top. That's a midfield issue, not Diouf.

And should have given away two penos. We were very lucky that game. Lucky when we win, shit when we lose. That's Bayern.... Lots of 'should haves' in most games. How many times have Manchester United won games where they rode their luck? They were second best against Bayern Munich for most of the match when they won their "treble".

Doesn't look like Shawcross will be available according to Spinks so what does Hughes do?! He will not want to change formation but does he have any choice? I know Johnson has played CB before but I can't see that happening

And that's why we needed a new right back. If Ryan is out aswell as Geoff, I can see it being 4 5 1. We have no proper right back who is good enough to play, Diouf I would say is the only option and not exactly ideal. Possibility for Soutar but think this is even more unlikely given his non appearance on Tuesday. Let's all hope Ryan is back.
