Bit of a strange one for me, he is a decent player but I don't see him improving that Chelsea team (certainly not the starting lineup anyway). Another club where he will spend a lot of time on the bench, making up the homegrown quota. Bit of a waste.

Strange one that, I always thought it to be rats that deserted sinking ships.

Yes but they need to make the homegrown quota so he gets lots of money and weekends off. No great loss to the Arse

I thought his gripe was about not being played in centre mid - like you say, is he expecting to walk into their central midfield?
He would be an unbelievable signing for us but he seems to be in that awkward spot of being to be good for mid table prem and not good enough for the top 4. Should stay at Arsenal with that in mind because they're not top 4 anymore.

He'll be wingback cover for Moses and Alonso. Might get the odd game in midfield in a cup game.
What I don't get is that he said turning down the contract over at Arsenal was nothing to do with the money and all about not playing enough or in the right position.
That means he's either a liar and it is about the money, or he somehow thinks he's actually good enough to get ahead of Willian, Pedro and Hazard.

Don't blame him to be honest for wanting out of Arsenal, but going to Chelsea is a strange one as he will be seeing just as much bench time there as he does at Arsenal and he's far too good a player to not be playing week in week out.

I thought he would've suited Liverpool with his style but they have turned their attention to Lemar apparently and that really would be an amazing signing for them.

I'd have thought Liverpool or Tottenham (not that he would want to cause a fuss and go there). He would get regular football at either of those, Everton too but I think he is maybe better than them. Maybe he will be available in a year or two and we can sign him up after he is bored of sitting on the bench.

He needed to take a step back to go forward. Everton, Stoke, back to Soton or Leicester etc. He needs to be playing every week and he won't at Chelsea. Still he'll make a load of money and live in London, whatever floats your boat.

Surely Chelsea have aspirations to win the European Cup again. Ox isn't in that category of player. Is he?

Being honest the Ox is pretty crap for any top 7 team . No end product and one of those who has been lucky in his career. How someone of his ability has turned dwn a contract worth £180.00 a week at Arsenal shows how much our beloved game has declined. Poor goal scoring record, really poor, Chelsea are just spending 30 mill plus to get a home grown player. Sad part of modern football.

"He's been in the Premiership for 6 years and I've still got no idea if he's any good or not".

Someone on Twitter summed him up perfectly: "He's been in the Premiership for 6 years and I've still got no idea if he's any good or not". Bang on, what is he actually good at? Would he even be near the England squad if he didn't play for the Arse. Hate his nick name, ''The Ox'' as well portrays him as a strong workhose or superhero when he is nothing like that. Average Prem player creaming it.

Add him to the scrapheap of potentially promising young English footballers who never quite made it because they chased cash rather than wanting to play football week in week out.
No doubt will still be picked for England.
Bench player for Arse/Chelsea at best. Would have been better off at a mid table club or even going abroad (English players need to improve on this) to really showcase his talents and to work out his best position. I'm not convinced he knows his best position yet!
It's a real shame and a waste of talent frankly, but such is football these days.

I hope it all works out for him, he comes across as a decent lad and I think that he is one of very few creative English players who can make things happen in the international team.
However... I have a feeling that this move just alerts clubs like us that, unless something unexpected happens, he will be available for loan next season. Looking at Chelsea's reasons for the deal, it could be seen as quite a cynical move. It stops him playing for any of Chelsea's main rivals, and stops him playing against Chelsea at all. It's not like they down't have a record for doing this sort of thing.

Wouldn't want him anywhere near a Stoke shirt. A completely overrated English player from the same "can run fast and kick a ball" mould as Wheelchair and Wallsnott.

Can only see him replacing Moses at right wing back or just making up the numbers on the bench.

I thought he was Arsenal's best player in the first half against us last week. Looked very dangerous and he's way more creative than Walcott. His influence faded in the second half when Wenger rejigged the formation and personnel.
