Ideally though he should be rested too. He gets through a lot of football on average for us and it's a good chance to rest him. Ideally I agree, I just don't see the need/logic in going back to back4 so soon and against such opposition that's all. A chance to concentrate on the attacking aspects of the system to compliment the 5 defensive side of it last sat. Zouma's full bore, and perhaps needs careful managing/protecting from himself a bit. It's better?

Personally I would play Berahino, Choupo and maybe even Jese
I think it would be Bera's best chance to get off the mark against Rochdale and give him some confidence after a decent run out vs Arsenal. I also think Jese and Choupo need games in the first XI.
My line up would be a 3-4-3
Grant Johnson Cameron Indi Edwards Allen Adam Tymon Choupo-Moting Berahino Jese

Choupo is a big lad and needs sharpness, he can look after himself and Berahino just needs to start scoring and then I hope we might then see a different player always on the hunt instead of always on his heels.

I agree with you if we're are going with 3 at the back as our stock formation in the league he needs to look at the fringe players in the roles they are competing for in the league. If we can't beat Rochdale at home playing in a manner which we dictate I think I might go back to being worried.

This to me is not so much of a cup competiton as a 'test your squad depth, exercise'
( sounds arrogant true - but its what I think )
and so, as an established premier league side for approaching a decade with, a supposed 25 man squad
its should be absolutely no concern, to put out a second eleven in the early round of the contest and expect them to do the business, with confidence and assurance.
throw in a couple of the U23s too ! (e.g. Campbell - Verlinden if fit)
I also say this because, I've hated the way we've suffered serious needless injuries to key players in such fixtures over the years
(first example - Hoekstra pretty much crocked for good, in an away tie at Mansfield in some meaningless cup match)
( twas heartbreaking to me)
So, IF Stoke City cant be confident in its broader first team squad to do this job with a second eleven
we have serious structural defects in our playing squad

My logic would be to rest Zouma and Ryan from this one. }Stuck between a tough workout saturday and WBA next.} And because why break that system continuity so soon? The 3 thing has proved effective in tournaments, I was hoping he'd use it in Cups, front foot. I was gutted we didn't use it against Wolves, we'd played some good stuff using it in the run up to that match. I reckon he'll stick. So we play Cameron Indi and who? Wolly is leaving so shouldn't come in to contention. Souttar played yesterday. That leaves no one. Johnson played in a back 3 last season didn't he? Not ideal but should be okay, gives Edwards a chance as well.

Not saying he was but Hughes obviously sees him as an option there so saying there is no one else isn't strictly true. On a positive note, if Rochdale rip him a new one it could be his last game for us. Even cloud..

will there be cash turnstiles?
somehow it feels great to pay as you go in and a bit of a throwback to the old days that are sadly gone, another thing I love about the cup

Yeah maybe your right, perhaps Bojan in for Jese or call up Verlinden.
With Boj though I just cannot see him here at the end of the month and if we are offloading I cannot see any reason to play him or Imbula for that matter

Adam is still here? Oh dear. A walking red card, and I stress "walking." he should have been one of the first to be let go this summer.

He said there we plenty of tickets still available. Don't know why they have to wait so long to announce it.

I guess the second we announce a cash turnstile, as we will, then we won't sell any further tickets. And I presume we prefer to sell tickets since it makes planning easier for everything around the match and it reduces the likelihood of a rush on the cash turnstiles on the night.

Cash turnstiles are great so long as you don't mind a potential 15-20 minute wait outside the stadium to get in like against Hull last season.

Cousin D - I stressed "walking" for a reason - he adds nothing and subtracts a lot. The red card bit is of less consequence although I would say if he's only had three that's getting close to miracle range. I'd have given him a lot more.

Think he'll start Crouch. Not averse to it in the cups at all. Would definitely start Choupo to get him up to speed, and would move Mame up front for this one.

This really is a must-win game. It's one of only two first-team competitions that we stand a realistic chance of winning. Tonight's scores (as they stand) are littered with upsets. Don't let us be one of them tomorrow Stoke.
